Nowhere does he say his phone was jailbroken which makes this confusing. he does say that he had a T-Mobile sim so his phone had to be jailbroken and unlocked to be able to use it, he just doesn't know it was jailbroken and unlocked.

I think the problem is that the OP doesn't know how to communicate, in writing, what the heck he did. So trying to offer him any help is almost pointless. IMO at least.

no guys ok. I just bought this phone, when i recieved it it would let me get to the home screen and use all the apps (safari, weather, ect, ect.) but i DID NOT have service (i have tmobile). i then upgraded it to the new firmware through itunes and now its stuck at the lock screen, since i dont have an AT&T sim card.

will i still be able to use it after a jailbreak comes out for 4.0.1?

Just wait for a JB and unlock to be released hopefully soon.
And remember. Never update your iphone firmware thru itunes again cause you will lose the JB, activation and unlock.
Its not JB and unlocked forever. Once you update to official firmware thru itunes it locks up again and will only work with AT&T sims.
