I couldn't resist it when I saw it in the store. I had originally wanted the XR for the added screen size but seeing the S Max up close and personal, I went for it.

I got a 256GB model in gold. They had a half-price offer on a gel case if you bought the Max so I got this, too.

Now, what do I do with my X? I think I'll keep it as a backup device; I've only had it since January.

I'd have bought one if they had just called it the iPhone Max. Alas they had to throw the Xs in front of it so I'm keeping my 8 Plus another year.

I just hope next year Apple doesn't go with "iPhone XI Super Duper Max II" or something.

I kind of think I prefer the smaller model myself, but I will roll with the Max for a year and decide again next year. I am sure you will be happy with your purchase, the new form factor and gestures are the best part. Camera is amazing too.

I'm on the fence this year with which phone to get, what is it about the X size you prefer over the Max? Just curious.

It's just nicer to hold in the hand, easier to manage. I like the bigger screen of the Max, but I don't see it as that big of an advantage. Now that all features are equal, I am not sure I see the bigger screen as an advantage for myself. I'd try it out if you are interested though and give it a shot.

I saw the max in person finally and it removed any sort of desire I had to purchase it. I had the plus models and grew to like them but with using the X for a year, I really prefer this size since it has quite a bit of screen space. The max just felt huge and didn't really show any extra content or offer much for all that extra heft.

I also caved. Told myself the X would be my last upgrade for a while, hence I bought AppleCare+ with it as well, but Ive always like the Plus sized phones I had before it!

I keep my phones pristine though - always with cases etc - and I don't touch the accessories that come in the box. Hence the X will be placed back in its box and sold. Will be throwing in a case or two as well ;)
Hopefully the year of AppleCare+ will add some value too.....

My wife and I happily watched the Xs announcement go by and both told ourselves that we would keep our 8+ phones.

Then we got the pre-approved upgrade iUP email. We both said we wouldn't upgrade as we filled that out … JUST in case. Then went to bed without setting our alarms for the Friday pre-release. Friday morning when we woke up at 6am, we wanted to see how much it would cost to upgrade (~$180 with tax + first month payment). We shocked ourselves by getting Xs MAX phones.

Considering these are MUCH more expensive... I'm definitely going to try to keep these for 2-3 years. I honestly would have been happy with the 8+. But it was too tempting. :)

I caved in as well. Mine is coming tomorrow. Got the exact same model as you did. I was supposed to be holding out until December but it didn’t happen. I don’t know who I was kidding. But hey I lasted a few days.

I got my X in December last year.
What contract you get? Didn’t have to wait for annual upgrade then?

That's the problem with my 8+, I love the screen but it can be cumbersome at times. I've played with the XS and the XS Max, the Max screen is amazing, but it's a big phone.

Yea and while everything definitely has a bit more room to breathe, it doesn't really bring much over the Xs screen at this point. iOS 13 may change all that, but right now it's just a blown up Xs. I think I just prefer the smaller size myself, but it's only been a few days. I could change my tune over the next year.

I was going to keep my 7+ another year but once AT&T did the BOGO deal I decided to upgrade. Don’t really like being more than a generation behind anyway.

I couldn’t wait for the annual upgrade. 2 and a half months was too long. I had £700 left on my X to pay and I can sell my X for £560 so it was £140.

I ended up with £75 for 100GB of data. Last time I was paying £86 for 30GB of data.

Edit: I forgot I also get 30% discount because I work for the NHS so it’s about £53 but I have to do the application again.

C'mon Travis, we all know the phones would sell if Apple called them iPhone Dogballz lol. There'd just be more threads about what a stupid name that is!

That’s a pretty good deal...

Mine is £93 a month for same amount of data. On the new upgrade anytime deal

You could also get a refund for the 2 years of AppleCare that you won't use. I just recycled my 2016 MacBook Pro and got a nice refund for the remaining year + a few months.

The Max is better on my middle-aged eyes! Would I like it to be more pocketable/one-handed? Sure, but that kind of phone will not be available until foldable phones are a thing. For now, the larger, easier to read screen wins for me.

Oddly it seem like the glass/rails have much more grip than the original X.
