So far no issues, i watched YouTube videos where people swim with iphone 8 and they talk about water pressure that it should not exceed specific amount of water pressure. Does water pressure means how fast the water drops on iphones? Will the water from sink tap have same water pressure as in swimming? Will washing in water ruin quality of the outside material?

Safe? Probably most of the time, but doesn’t mean something can’t go wrong even on the first attempt. The IP67 is mostly for accidents (someone knocks over a drink onto your phone, or you get caught out in a storm. It’s not meant to purposely dunk into water or anything)

I thought 8 is sealed from all sides, if i wash it without SIM card tray then i guess water can go inside iphone and it can cause damage to it right? Btw after cleaning in water iphone becomes crystal clean just like out of the box :p

It’s water resistant not water proof.

Why on earth would you wash it under a tap every day?! Or for that matter, ever??

Carry on but don’t expect Apple to fix your broken phone under warranty.

It’s easy to clean iphone under water, whole body becomes clean within few seconds. I thought its water proof, thanks for letting me know that it’s just water resistant.

Sealed but not water proof. It’s only water resistant. Not meant to purposely submerge into water and more meant for accidents as I mentioned in my previous post.

Apple doesn’t cover water damage for reasons specific to this thread. People will under their own fault damage the phone.

My question is why? Why do you rinse your phone so much?

The smudges on screen plus the germs etc..I read somewhere phones in general has more germs than a toilet seat.

Yes i read your previous post and yes I understand apple wont cover water damage. Btw how will apple know iphones is water damage are there any indicators on iphone itself?

The seals can degrade overtime. Numerous variables contribute to this, such as excessive heat and cold and of course how much and how often the seals are subjected to water, especially of higher pressures.

The faucet of course produces water pressure of varying amounts by how much you turn the handle. The molecules have kinetic energy and more so if you turn the knob higher. This kinetic energy is absorbed by the device and it’s seals when it comes into contact with them. It’s a question of how much they can withstand and for how long.

Personally I don’t think there’s much to worry about, but I have no scientific data to back that up.

Yes, they will know. There are three water strips inside the phone that turn red when they’ve gotten wet.

Okay got it i will be careful now. Thanks

Thank you so much it’s really a good info. I might now just clean with damp cloth when needed. Thanks

There’s nothing wrong with getting it wet every once in a while, but I would never wash it daily.

I wipe my 7 with a damp cloth every few weeks, and I don’t worry about drops of water getting on it or anything, but I don’t purposely submerge it.

yeah i was washing it daily every morning but after reading answers from posters i will avoid it. To avoid scratches because of keys i keep iphone in front pocket of shirt and if its rains i am not worried about it at all.

Yes... public phones in phone booths, hotel lobbies etc, since hundreds of people touch them daily. It obviously doesn't apply to your private smartphone, unless you have some weird fetish for rubbing it against different icky looking things you find in public places.

Unless your using soap, germs are not going to be washed off your phone. It’s the same way with hands, washing with water alone does not sanitize it.

I think of water resistance of phones like a bullet proof vest. It's great protection to have in the event that you happen to be shot, but it's not smart to go out and intentionally get shot just because I'm wearing one. There's never a 100% guarantee that the protection is perfect. Note that the phone's warranty does NOT cover water damage.

Is this thread for real, hahahahahahaha

Everyday?

I’m already willing to bet you’ve tripped the water damage sensor on the inside

These phones aren’t water proof and the water resistance is hit or miss

I do the same with my iPhone 7 Plus for the same reasons you listed. While I'm fooling myself into thinking that this will reduce the germs for more than a few hours, I still have the urge to do it.

I hold it under the tap for a brief two seconds, to wash it off. I just prefer it that way. I do the same with my LG G6 and both phones haven't complained, the former of which I've owned since release day.
