You do not know this for a fact. Apple test their phone under controlled conditions. Probably by just placing it gently in Pale of water not under the Fossett poring on it. Use a little screen spray cleaner and be done with it.

I never stated it as a fact it’s simply an opinion, your stating yours as well which holds as much weight as what I said. But as I said I would be more concerned with corrosion in the charging port than the seals given the seals are there to protect against water ingression. There are no protective measures against corrosion against the contact points that I know of.

The most I do is wipe my phone with anti bacterial wipes every week or so.

I'm at the gym four or five days a week. In addition to touching my phone after dealing with door handles. So I try to do something.

Plus this annoying Starbucks barista likes to take your phone instead of just scanning it.

I'd never wash it though.

Yes... public phones in phone booths, hotel lobbies etc, since hundreds of people touch them daily. It obviously doesn't apply to your private smartphone, unless you have some weird fetish for rubbing it against different icky looking things you find in public places.

Haha buddy, i thought they meant our personal phones has millions of germs.

Let's be real though our phones are coated in millions of germs. Unless you're staying at home / washing your hands / disinfecting your phone every 5 seconds then yeah.

That door handle / shopping cart you touched? Boom. Bathroom door handle? Boom. Get change from a cash register? Boom. And then you touch your phone. And then you put it to your face. and then you go home and likely don't clean it. Repeat every day of every year.

Didn’t Mythbusters test it and found it true that personal smartphones are dirty?

They probably did. I read somewhere while ago that a public toilet seat has less germs/bacteria than what a smart phone has from someone touching it daily.

The smudges on screen plus the germs etc..I read somewhere phones in general has more germs than a toilet seat.

Yes i read your previous post and yes I understand apple wont cover water damage. Btw how will apple know iphones is water damage are there any indicators on iphone itself?
You do understand that water alone does not kill bacteria on your phone? Unless you add soap or alcohol

At night i sleep with phone, i sleep alone, during sleep we don’t know where does our hand goes, you know the places, during sleep i am sure i touch phone or sometimes i wake up use phone and sleep. So that’s the main reason i wash phone.
If you're alone, then the germs you're worried about are your own. They transferred from your body to the phone. At worst, they'll be making a round-trip voyage.

I’ll go by what Apple said below regarding controlled laboratory conditions. The keywords is controlled laboratory.
  1. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are splash, water, and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty.

Sealed but not water proof. It’s only water resistant. Not meant to purposely submerge into water and more meant for accidents as I mentioned in my previous post.

Apple doesn’t cover water damage for reasons specific to this thread. People will under their own fault damage the phone.
Wrong.

Apple doesn’t cover water damage for the youtubers who go in the ocean with their phones for views. Apple expects some water to hit your phone - if a light washing damages it, that falls under IP67 rating.

The greed of the few ruin the warranty for the many. (And no I’m not advocating washing your phone - just that is not the reason Apple doesn’t have a warranty).

Mysophobia: See a qualified psychiatrist or psychologist.

Why tempt fate?

Did your mother tell you not to touch the pots on the stove and still have to take you repeatedly to the emergency room for burns?

It's your money. You pay your money you takes your chances. How often do you have to be wrong for it not to be a good idea?

No mother did tell me not to touch stove etc.. I wish you have not included my family into this simple discussion. I hope your mom have taught you some manners

Is it safe? Maybe? I know people who bath and swim with Theo first gen Apple Watches without issues too, despite Apple not mentioning anything about this in any way.

The reality is that water from your faucet isn’t going to create pressure. So if the seals on the phone have no faults you aren’t putting it into a situation it couldn’t handle.

Unfortunately Apple doesn’t guarantee any of this. There are threads all about this. But the reality is they don’t cover water damage under any circumstances. So for that reason I don’t recommend it.

Really good mature answer, other poster are also good here but some are really full of hate and ignorance.
