I have the 4s. It too seems to be slower since the IOS7 installation. Im purchasing the 5s now. There is no point in jumping into a new launch immediately anyway, let alone the completely new design.

So my ruling is this...

1) Don't buy the first edition but wait for the improved 'S' version
2) Always wait a few months before buying a new launch so minor problems can be ironed out ( mostly talking about hardware that cant be fixed after purchase)

Also depends on your circumstances. I never buy contract phones but take advantage of the Apple 10 month 0% finance offer that only comes around Christmas times for a month or two. So I create my own terms of contract which is only 10 months so once phone is paid for I either start again or keep the phone for another year.

Remember with electronics there is always something better around the corner. Once you have waited 3 months or so for teething problems to be fixed you will then be thinking "oh its only another 9 months until a new model is out...shall I wait"!?

Either buy a potentially Beta quality phone on launch or accept that you will have an older model for a while but a better quality one (potentially!).

Personally I think the larger screen could be an improvement yes, but more importantly for now , a phone that operates well is priority. Ill take the larger screen when the 6s launches :)

Totally agree with you. The 's' version may not have a new design but it's more stable and sustainable. To be honest, 4s is still good to use, but I'm just tired of its design and want to try something new. Maybe I'll just pick up 5s next week and wait for 6s.:)

Well...Sadly my 64 GB 4s just pooped itself. It was a good run, but I couldn't hold out for the 6. Best Buy had a sale for $75 off, so I bit on a new 64gb 5s. I had an internal battle going on as to whether I was going to use an old android phone and hold on for the 6 but went with the 5s instead. I hope I made the correct decision.

Actually, I'm going for the no-contract 5s since I live in Europe, and it seems best buy doesn't have the sale for that.

I hope the 6 has a 3.4" screen. The 4" is too long for my thumb to reach the top part. 3.5" was better but as long as we're making up things, let's go with a 3.4".

It's up to you. The 5s will be a pretty good upgrade but it's not going to wow you. And in all honestly, I don't think the 6 is going to wow anyone either. We've gone from Moto Razrs to 1st iPhone and that was a huge leap. Each subsequent model, while had great features, just made it more and more perfect. I really can't think of anything else I'd want. Maybe curved edges, but wow, a bit of a redesign. Thinner? You'll have to get rid of the headphone jack if you get much thinner. The screen is a bit too big right now so that's not worth it.

If you can hold off 10 more months wait. If you want to play with something new upgrade. I will say, it seems like every day I'm just excited about how much I love my 5s. I don't think I felt the same about the 4s and that was my first iPhone.

It's true. Though lots of people are waiting for the completely new designed 6, I still think apple is going down and iPhone 6 will not wow us. I'm just stuck to iOS ecosystem and with my iPad and Mac, android is not an option for me.

I don't know if I'd go so far to say Apple is going down. Look at cell phones in the early 2000s. From about 2002-2007 there was really nothing new coming out. Palm had their Trēos but they were clunky, expensive, and not easy to use. I just don't think there's that much to add to it. I could be wrong. What's Samsung or LG doing? They watch you watch it and stick a button on the back that's difficult to get to. Still the same thin bar form. They're curving them, but what's the point? I'm thinking it's going to be like that dual screen thing from a few years back.

Apple's done an awesome job at the new Mac Pro, IMO. Completely changed the way it's designed and what not, although some may say it's the Cube 2.0. They may wow us but I'm not sitting waiting for their next big thing.

Maybe I just need a vacation?

Funny! Maybe I'm being too finicking here. It's just that people are discussing that iPhone 6 will be "revolutionary" as iPhone 4 was. But I don't hold much expectation. That's all, and maybe that's why I'm thinking about getting an iPhone 5s now.

I was going to wait, but Best Buy is now selling the 5s for $125, so they effectivley have made the decision for me.

Also, I can a avoid all the craziness of a new launch.

But the 6 is going to be VERY desirable, as it always is. But I won't have to make any decision then either, as ATT makes it for me.

It nice how they do all the thinking for me :)

Wait for 6 instead...I've been using my 4s for almost 2 years upgraded to ios7 but doesnt have any problem at all. Just delete vpn if youre using one as i've notice some issue regarding network confugurations like weaker wifi reception and 3g signal which drained my battery fast.

Buy a 5s but buy it right now !

The jump from a 4s is quite big, and we don't know when iPhone 6 will be released, but it could be after the next summer.
Are you going to keep an iPhone 4S until September 2014 ?

Here is what I did. I wanted the 5s and I bought it. If I want the 6, I'll buy it. It's that simple. I'll sell my 5s to help pay for the 6.

I bought iphone 5S about a week ago.

I had an iphone 4S and couldn't stand anymore with it.

I am very happy that I did. I also got a great deal for it.

Paid only 65 dollars + Tax for iphone 5S.

Next year, I am also buying iphone 6, but it has to be more than a big screen.

This is true. The 6 could come in mid 2015 for all we know. Or it could be a 5S+. Get the 5S now if you want it. They hold their value very well so if you need to sell it to get the next one you can.

there are rumors that apple might be releasing the iphone 6 earlier than in previous years.

perhaps even in Q2.

you may not have to wait that long after all and the 4S is still a very capable phone because its the best iphone produced by apple to date relative to its time of release.
