The only people who really need the 3.2 over the 2.8 are doing major video editing, where time is money.

For most of us, the 2.8 octo is gonna be insanely fast already (hell, even the 4 core will still be seriously more than the average power user really *needs*...)

C'mon Friday, get here already...

Well, I just bought my first Mac Pro, upgrade from using my good 'ol Power Boook G4. I have been using Final Cut, Motion and the other Pro Apps for all of my video work thus far on my powerbook! Just ordered the dual 2.8 setup below. Not the 3.2, but I think it will rock my video editing world in comparison to editing on the powerbook. Here's what I got...

Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeo
2GB (2x1GB)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
APPLE MIGHTY MOUSE
WIRELESS KEYBD/ OS X
Country Kit

I just ordered too, third time lucky. First time a cheque hadn't cleared so the card was declined, second time my bank stopped it thinking it was fraud, and yesterday at last everything went through.
Strangest thing though, according to 'fraud protection' at my bank who rang me this morning, Apple tried to put through the order (the full amount), and then 8 minutes later tried to put through a further £700 odd, which was declined (insufficient funds). I called Apple, but they don't have a clue. Does anyone know what this might have been for? I certainly didn't order anything else!

I ordered:

Two 2.8Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
2GB RAM from Apple and 4GB (2x2) from OWC (or Crucial if they get their act together soon and start offering it too)
500GB Hard drive (also ordered a 1TB Samsung F1 from pixmania)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
Wireless Mighty Mouse and keyboard... just because!

I'm probably going to buy a USB powered numeric keypad come usb hub - they cost about £15 and will fill in all the gaps left by the wireless keyboard.

I'm so excited, I've been waiting over 1 year for this computer - making do was a MacBook till I had enough money (and then until the new one was released). Can't wait to install Final Cut which has been sitting under my desk for 9 months (got it cheap off a friend).

Well, I'm getting mine for 3D rendering, something I've been getting more and more into over the last couple of years. Believe me, after trying this on a 7 yr old G4, I'm really looking forward to the MP! I did a paid job over the summer where the final render took 7 days! I don't know who sweated more, me or the client:D

It may be that I don't really need that extra little push, perhaps it'll only save me a few more minutes, but after that experience, I need to know that I'm working at the absolute fastest I possibly can.

I looked at an octo 3.2 with the 8800 card at the Apple MacWorld booth. I ran a test render in modo, with global illumination, and it screamed. Your rendering speed will be an amazing increase on one of these new systems!

Did you check the version of Leopard? Did they have 10.5.2. or regular 10.5.1.?
