I don't like change hehe :p

But, like i said, it's just confusing right now. I'll have to get used to it, that's all. I think all the people I text are almost all iPhone users, and the iMessanger thing is just confusing, is it like a chat room type thing for iPhones? Or just a texting type app that allows the user to see when the other is typing, or if they read the message... I read the MacRumors article, but I can't wrap my head around this for some strange reason...

As for the "typical Boston approach", well, that makes no sense.. (rick snagwell)

I would agree that I'm not too enamored with iOS 5. But one thing is that iMessenger once you understand it isn't too bad. It's integrated into the Messages app and you don't have to enter any other information. When you send a text to someone, if it sees that they're an iPhone user, it sends them a data iMessage rather than a text, saving you a text (so that you don't have to pay for so many). There's almost no UI difference except for a few other features that automatically come if your correspondant is an iOS user. It seems like if you text an apple ID too, it will send it to their iPod/iPad as well.

I just got an iPhone 4, and this just seems way simpler than iOS 5. I mean, just keep the iPod app, and why no facebook intergration? Get over it apple, 700,000,000 people use it. As for "iMessanger", I don't see the point. It's just a BBM in iPhone form.

Idk, I just dont see the big deal over it... I mean, props to Apple for trying to make I better, iOS 4.3 is outstanding. Way more solid than my Droid X was. Anyone have opinions on this? I think it'll just be one of those "I'll just have to get used to it" things

How long have you been using it?

To me it sounds great. I don't think I need Facebook integration, and don't really care about the new Twitter integration. iMessenger seems cool - some might be able to quit their texting plan- and it will let me text on my wifi iPad.

The new notification system seems better.

Not needing to plug it in to upgrade is hella cool - and delta upgrades all the better -

The changes to Safari and the Camera are all good.

All in all, it's not world peace - but a decent upgrade at a decent price.

Which part of it are you finding you like the least?

With iMessage there is zero thinking. You simply text a friend. If the phone sees they are running an iphone running ios5 then imessages automatically kicks in and saves you money (from text messages). Zero thinking. Zero settings to deal with (if you want there are settings). Zero playing with. It just does it on its own.

Exactly. The entire point of it is that you don't have to think about it...unless at some point you realize all of your chat bubbles are blue (free) rather than green (costing you money), and you decide to stop paying for a text messaging plan.

As for "iMessanger", I don't see the point. It's just a BBM in iPhone form.

I disagree with this point in particular.

You must realize that "just" BBM is perhaps the biggest thing that has made RIM special, loved and fully embraced by a large demographic.

And now 4 of my best friends who only have an iPod Touch and/or iPad can "iPhone BBM" with me and many others free of charge. THAT is a BIG point.

You've gotta be kidding - they finally made the toy os into somewhat real one and you don't like it?

Lol, I love how everyone fires back at me like I'm cutting off Steve Job's arms. Relax, I was just a little confused at how this would work. I'm good with Macs, this is my first iPhone. Give me a break. I wasn't attacking Apple, just stating my opinion based on the current knowledge available.

So if this is your first iPhone why would you buy the DEVELOPER version of ios5?

The whole point of iMessage is being able to message and ios device (iPhone, iTouch, iPad, even the Macs.) This is alot better then your BBM since now anyone who has a ios device can message eachother as long as they have an internet or data connection.

If you're that "confused" about it watch the Keynote. They explain how to use it thoroughly.

Facebook and WP7 are very integrated. Facebook and certain Android phones the same.

Yes, and Microsoft is a MAJOR investor and partner in Facebook (hence the Bing integration). Maybe MS vetoed such a deep integration on the iOS. Who knows. There's a lot of moving parts here - you have to understand the industry before assuming that Apple wants to screw Facebook users.

Remember, Ping was supposed to integrate with Facebook, but that deal fell apart. Obviously Apple and FB don't see eye-to-eye.

You can still use the Facebook app. What else are you looking for?

Yeah I don't like iOS5 either:

Now whenever I text other iOS5 users, it sends the message for free, automatically, without me having to think about anything, using iMessage instead of charging me to send a regular SMS. Why would they try and save me money; I use Apple products, I must love blowing my money.

And the whole automatic syncing thing, who needs that? I want to sync when I want, not have it done for me without having to do anything at all except have my computer on.

The whole iCould thing is ridiculous too; now they're giving me access to my music, apps, etc.. on all of my devices, whenever I want, and giving me the option to download them as many times as I want Who would want such a thing? Why would I want purchases automatically pushed to my other devices? I like having to manually move things around and keep every device up to date; I've got way too much free time so this helps move my day along. I really don't need Apple making my life easier.

</Sarcasm>

Sorry, just don't see why everyone is complaining so much about iOS5. First of all, its in beta; if you don't like it, don't use it. Second of all don't whine about things you haven't experienced or can't "wrap your head around." Not understanding something is no excuse to bad mouth it.

<rant off>

As for "iMessanger", I don't see the point. It's just a BBM in iPhone form.

What's your point?

None of the feature in iOS 5 are new. Apple is not first to any of them. But the case can be made that the polish of those features is above average.

As for iMessenger, I agree that it's nothing new. But think about the advantages that BBM offered. BBM provides an alternative to texting. What's wrong if Apple gives its users the same convenience? I'm with AT&T and I've always used the 200 messages/month option which costs $5. I was thinking about going unlimited but I realized it's a big waste of money since I don't do that much texting. With iMessenger, I know I'm right because I don't have to eat into my text message allowance when sending messages to people with iPhones. I have a friend who has the unlimited text option and he pays $15/month for it. He told me that he plans to downgrade to 200 messages/month.

The carriers were stunned by iMessenger. I bet they're kicking themselves now. Texting is a cash cow for carriers.

Facebook is stupid. I don't see the point in having 300 people who are your "friends" whom you've probably only ever saw once in your life, or known from high school 10 years ago. I really don't want to keep that in touch with people and could care less what they are doing this very moment. And it seems Apple agrees with me :)

Sticking with iOS4

iOS5 just adds bloat and useless crap like iCloud and Twitter.

iOS4+jailbreak = faster, longer battery, notifications :D

This might be redundant as I didn't read all of the replies and noticed a -19 on your original post but the simple answer is...

DON'T USE IT.

facebook is old. twitter is better.

Value judgement. I hate twitter, facebook is so much better for keeping in touch with people.

Much like iPhone and Android, neither is better, just pick the one that works best for you.

Do you have any idea where you are posting? People here suck. :D

I use my phone in both a personal and professional setting. To be honest, I could care less about FB or more Twitter, or social networking integration. I know it's the "future", but I find in intrusive. I don't want everything I do on the phone to be an FB or Twitter update. If they find a way to have it an on/off toggle, great. Integrate all you want then...but I prefer not having it at the moment...

I tire of the constant comparisons actually. Wow Brand X has this, why doesn't iPhone, or OS X have it? It's so much better on Brand X. If Brand X is that good, and it suits your needs/desires, then go get Brand X. Buy what you need. Not what's cool, or flashy. I bought a Volvo knowing what it was, and how it performed. I didn't get it with the idea I'd be hauling a 50 foot, 10 ton boat with it, and then complain it doesn't do what a Ford F350 would do...

FB and Twitter have already a nice "integration" via Safari ;). Don't need to go deeper for me. The risk for sniffing around is too big for me. Don't already like FB integration in iPhoto. Too easy to make mistakes and publish stuff you don't want.

Ok, for twitter I actually use the app; for FBI only safari. And no FB apps inside anyway.
Paranoid ? yes, a bit.

I like what I see in iOS5 overall but Twitter will stay switched off.

Apple wanted to link facebook artists pages to iTunes. of course Facebook didn't want to give Apple the golden eggs chicken... that's why facebook is not integrated on iOS.
