I bought this mouse given all the praise online including on this forum but because of the following reasons I want to return it:
  1. The mouse is too big and too heavy (even though I am 6"3). Not only the mouse feels uncomfortable and hurts my forearm tendon, it also prevents me from being efficient using it. I am much more efficient using a Asus ROG mouse which is lighter and lower to the ground. I also think that I prefer flat/not tilted buttons
  2. Some input lag when moving the tracker. Scrolling does not feel nice either (both physically and in terms of display on the screen)
  3. Side Buttons are a bit too hard to press especially the thumb one
The main thing I like about the mouse is the silent and soft/easy clicks on the two top buttons. I also like the fact that I can use the side scroll to Zoom In/Out even though there is a lag and the page tends to move left and right after zooming in sometimes and which is annoying.

I have never owned a Magic Mouse but having tried it in the store it does not seem to be comfortable (too low) unfortunately but maybe I should give it a shot? I mean at this stage I feel more comfortable using an Amazon Basics mouse... Would you have another mouse to recommend over the 3s? Hopefully a mouse with nice scrolling, silent buttons and with potentially a side scroll so I can zoom in and out like on a trackpad.

PS: I own a Magic Keyboard which I much prefer using over the MX Keys so I do not think Logitech is for me!

I never understood the fascination with Logitech products. Maybe their mice I could understand over the magic mouse but the magic keyboard and trackpad are by far a superior combo. I guess Logitech is 1st in aftermarket but still a distant 2nd place to Apple OE.

I agree… I mean the Magic Mouse is just too low … otherwise I’m sure I would love it. The trackpad is great but I’m just more efficient using a mouse on a desktop.

That MX master is just too big. I have big hands and it feels uncomfortable. I prefer my hand to be in control. It feels like my hand is being « dominated » by the mouse, and having less control about where I want it to go. It also requires more energy / force versus a regular mouse. I don’t think it’s because of the weight but more about the gravity center being too high.

My hands are on the smaller side, and the MX 3S is too big to be comfortable. I’m using a Logitech Triathalon M720, which fits much, much better. However, the build quality is nowhere as good as the 3S — the wheel sucks, the clicks sounds like cheap plastic, etc.

I’ve yet to find a mouse that fits well without other issues… one day maybe.

I've always liked Logitech mice. I've never tried the MX Master though. On my iMac I had a Logitech G703. It was nice to use but battery life was terrible and it requires a dongle. This is why I'm not using it on my MacBook Air. I don't want to plug a dongle in a laptop just for a mouse. Right now I'm using a SteelSeries Rival 3 wireless. It works on Bluetooth so that's why I got it. I don't think it's a good as the Logitech but it's good enough for now. I'm not doing any serious gaming or something that requires precision.

I'm with you when it comes to the Magic Mouse being too flat. It hurts my hand to use it. I really like the scrolling surface but I found myself accidentally horizontal scrolling when I didn't want to.

I think a mouse is something that has to fit your hand. If you live in the USA go to Best Buy and look at the display models and put your hand on them. If you're outside the USA just got to any electronics store that has computer mice on display. This is how I found the G703 although I didn't pay attention to the battery life specs

I bought a 3s a few weeks ago, and have the almost exact complaints. I really wanted to try it and go back to a mouse as I have been using a trackpad 2 and its been hurting my knuckles, but the 3s isn't the answer for me.

What other mouses would you consider buying / using?

Try the Logi Anywhere 3. I love it. I can’t believe that I suffered with the Magic Mouse for so long. The Anywhere 3 works with both Bluetooth and the “unifying receiver” (which only comes with the mouse if you buy the Windows version, which otherwise is identical to the Mac version).

My only complaint is that I wish it had a tiltable (left/right) scroll wheel instead of buttons for horizontal scrolling. But a minor nit.

Thanks for the tip I will definitely try it out!

How do you perform a Zoom / Smart Zoom like the trackpad pinch with this mouse?

the short answer is you don’t. 😐 You can program the back/forward buttons to do other things — like horizontal scroll or zoom -- but its limited on a per-app basis I believe.

I think this is the sole reason Apple has the Magic Mouse, since it has a touch sensitive top.

This is why I was thinking of getting the Apple Magic Mouse ... but It seems very low lol. Like the exact opposite of the MX Master 3s but maybe a bit too extreme even though I like small and light mouses

Yeah, I can't do the Apple mouse. Nothing to grip on the sides and what's there is too thin. For me at least.

I didn’t like the MM for that reason, and also because it would register left clicks when I was right clicking.

If Apple were to thicken the mouse with a bit of a rearward hump so I could palm it, whilst adding some material to the sides so I don't have to fingertip hold its edges, I'd be hugely more satisfied with it. I'd be fine with the touch surface and invisible buttons even.

I agree. I keep thinking maybe there's a better way to hold it but when I use it I feel like it hurts my hand

What do you use instead then?
Right now I'm using a SteelSeries Rival 3 wireless. It's okay but I'm not crazy about it. It does what I need. I was using it without the software but it would go to sleep very quickly but now that's fine. I wanted a Bluetooth mouse without a dongle because I'm not going to use a dongle with a MacBook. For a desktop it's perfectly fine.

I had a Logitech G703 for my iMac. I really liked it except it had poor battery life. I think once a week or so I had to charge it. People make fun of the Apple mouse because the charging port is on the bottom but the battery lasts so long you rarely need to charge it. I'll take that over a "proper" charging port and poor battery life any day.

I'm open for suggestions for a Bluetooth mouse because I'm always looking for something better. I think when I get another Mac mini I'll go with the dongle mouse and keyboard though because with the mini Bluetooth seemed not so great.

Noted! Yes it’s much better with the dongle. Using Bluetooth with the Mx Master feels so sluggish and a bit laggy (not a big deal but I definitely notice it and get annoyed by it).

Such a shame the Magic Mouse has apparently poor ergonomics because it sounds like the perfect mouse besides that.

I may try the MX anywhere

So my wife and I were out and about today and I came across the Razer Orochi v2. Size and shape is actually quite good. Dongle is smoother than bluetooth but otherwise seems like a good fit for me. I'll play with it for a couple days and report back.
Thanks for this!! Please update us

Ok, so 6 hours in to it and the Orochi fits my hand very well and feels better constructed than the Logi M720. Especially the wheel. Also has a button to cycle through the various DPI modes (since it’s technically a gaming mouse). So far, very satisfied. I started with Bluetooth, but the 2.4GHz dongle produces smoother motion.

It’s bigger and more palm-filling than the MX Anywhere. Similar in size to the Logi M650 small/medium (smaller than the M650L).

Uses either a single AA or a single AAA battery (depending on the weight you prefer) and has an internal storage compartment for the dongle. Got it from Best Buy for $39.

So far, high marks from me.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience here. Congrats it fits you well.

How is the scrolling / zoom in/out experience? Any lag issues especially with scrolling?

I will go to my local Best Buy store today and try one out too.
