It's about cutting down the number of times that you take your phone from your pocket

I keep hearing this, and I don't understand it.

I only take my phone out of my pocket when I want to. When I'm busy, or engaged in something else, I tend to ignore texts and phone calls. I ignore them because, in that moment, I want to ignore them. When my phone is out, it's because, in that moment, I want to be playing with my phone. I guess I just don't see how an Apple Watch would change any of that. It seems to just add another layer of complication -- I'm busy with work, but I get a text and now it's easier to glance at it? What good does that do me, when I don't really *want* to be glancing at texts, but rather working? And if I felt like taking a break from working, I'd probably whip my phone out because it's more fun to use and easier to see/reply/do stuff on a bigger screen.

Does that make sense?

I get lots of texts/calls/emails from clients and employees all of the time, and not just during business hours. That's the way the TV industry is. Add in family and friends, plus notifications for events/appointments and other things, and it's a lot of taking my phone in and out of my pocket. Plus, the way my industry is, not really being a 9-5 kind of thing, I'm kind of always working/not working. So I may be on a bike ride, shopping, working on the house, at a museum, etc., during any day of the week when someone is contacting me, so I'm not just sitting with my phone on a desk. Screen things from the wrist is a huge help.

It's really no different than wanting notifications on your lock screen. Why do you need those, if you can just unlock the phone and check? Convenience.

This :apple:Watch will be like any other :apple: device in that some people will not see the point, and some will.

I see the point, I am getting one.

I own a services business, I do things with my hands all the time...installing home security systems, home theaters and such. When I have Apple Watch on my wrist, I predict will get my iPhone out of my pocket at least 50% less on a typical work day. I'm excited.

Does anyone plan on texting/making calls on the watch?

It just seems ridiculous and you annoy the hell out of people around you.

I probably won't take a call on my wrist while I am out, but at home I often find myself setting my phone down on the counter and missing several calls and texts. With the watch if I get a call I don't have to go find my phone to answer it I can just quickly answer the call on my wrist.

For texting I will maybe text simple yes or no type answers on the watch or I will reach for my phone.

I honestly don't care if i miss call or text. I'll respond at my own leisure when i feel like it.

If i am expecting something important i'll have the phone next to me or in my pocket.

If the main purpose of Apple Watch is for a quick notification on my wrist, count me out. At work, phone's on my desk I can hear the vibration. At home, I don't even want to wear a watch (it gets yucky and uncomfortable wearing it all day)

I Do See The Point

Yes I most certainly see the point, and its a good one.

But I still don't care!

Here's an interesting article:

"Apple Watch: are you feeling the terror?

From the printing press to the telephone to the tablet computer, new technologies have usually passed through three stages.

First, they are laughed off as stupid novelties with little use other than to entertain geeks.

Then, as they begin to become popular, they are deplored as threats to civilisation which will turn into mindless, atomised narcissists. "
