I don't think new ipad pro will be here soon and here is why

Just release 3 new ipad pro videos 5 days ago. No company would release new ad video right before announcing the new version of it. New ipad pro? May be 1 year later.
I think you're reading too deep into this and I don't think this is an indication of anything. Apple has been releasing mini iPad quip videos for the last six months. And more so, Apple has been pushing the iPad Pro series for obvious reasons.

Most rumors indicate a 10.5" launch in spring and 12.9" in summer.

Apple is expected to launch the new devices as "iPad Pro (2017)" so the ads make sense, before and after the 10.5" launch. Personally, I expect Apple to keep the 9.7" (but drop the price) and simply add 10.5" to the family.

Except, it's been heavily rumored that a 10.5 inch iPad is in the works.

And the iPad line already has 7.9, 9.7 and 12.9. I agree with the other forum member about adding the 10.5 inch iPad to the lineup. Rather it makes complete sense or not, we will find out when the keynote eventually gets here.

It shouldn't be hard to tell the story of three iPad Pro sizes. Keep in mind the iPad Pro is a high margin device with high attach rates of add-ons including Smart Keyboard, Pencil, and AppleCare+.

Apple is positioning the iPad Pro as "better than a computer." Shouldn't there be more than just two iPad Pro sizes?

No need to think about it in such a complicated way. If you look at it carefully, what Apple is really doing is differentiating various iPad models in the same way as the MacBook lineup.

12" MacBook - "low cost" new iPad
13" MacBook Pro - iPad Pro 9.7"
15" MacBook Pro - iPad Pro 12.9"

Other things have been inherited along the way:
  • Much longer refresh cycles
  • Tons of regular discounts on the "Pro" models in the EDU market, and more but smaller discounts on the "normal" models
This does make me fear about the future of the iPad mini though.

I'm fine with waiting.

It's all you others - the fence-sitters, the future-proof crowd, and the rest - who are on pins-and-needles anxiously waiting and speculating.

Is it this week that the media invites go out? Or the next? Or a month or two more? One person posted about the Apple Q2 report coming up...maybe before that?

Rationalize away. :D

Apple had to release this more affordable and lower-spec'd iPad first. Had they released both the Pros and the standard iPad at the same time, less people may have bought the cheaper one.

The Pro refreshes will come later in the year.

I think there may be a new iPad Pro 12.9 this month and a 10.5 in the fall .... at this point who knows though what is going on with the iPad line up

Seems like if there's no event (which is increasingly likely now that we are into April), they should just spec bump the current iPad Pro models and then release the 10.5 in the fall. I'm sure there would be plenty of people with a 12.9 that would love to have the true tone screen, better cameras , etc. Plus an edge to edge screen would seemingly steal the thunder from the iPhone event.

But even if they don't. The iPad Pro 12.9 is like the iPad Air 2 when it came out as far as almost CRAZY specs. The A9X is still a beast and 4GB of RAM easily gave it the longevity to go about 2 years without an update. Also the 9.7 pro is still the gold standard of regular size tablets. The screen is insanely high quality cinema spec. and true tone is a treat.

Apple launches devices when it's ready.

I'm sure Apple prefers customers buy the high margin iPad Pro, not the cheaper iPad. The refreshed iPad (2017) was ready first so they launched it first.

May 2nd is Q2 Earning Report, as for iPads later this year do you mean WWDC? I feel like Spring/Summer is a great time to refresh the iPad lineup especially why would Apple wait till that September/October time it makes their offereings crowded and doesn't let each product get the attention they deserve. I'm telling you guys you have it all wrong as Apple is sending out those invites tommorow, their mail service was down today that's all.;)

DIfferent people see this differently, why the way you see it is definitely valid and I'd agree I also see it more as them advertising the iPad Pro line itself and not so much the individual devices, therefore easily allowing for them to build a little consumer interest in them before a potential launch of the refreshed models.

It is crazy to upgrade the big ipad Pro with those features when you consider the price of a big Pro. resale value on it is not high enough to warrant an upgrade imo.

Luckiliy i bought mine in Dec 2015, so i got some great use out of it, and the price has barely dropped on it new. It truly is the longevity model, and i don't see myself upgrading outside of many big changes to the big Pro such as OLED, 6gig of ram and up, obviously new processor, a redesign with tougher aluminum.

Outside of that i wil use my big pro until it breaks.

You will probably upgrade as Apple will continue to increase performance this fall with 10nm chips, in which case they will probably hit a wall, although I did hear that 7nm was also already in the pipeline for 2018-2019 production.

I dont use my Pro as a performance machine. As long as websites load smoothly, no lag, i can keep tabs open and no reloading im good.

In that case you will be good for awhile with 4Gb of ram and A9X although ios 11 may heavily utilize that new found power, causing your device to become slower sooner than you may expect, you never know with Apple. Although now a days heck ever since the iPad 2 your iPad can usually last about 5 years.

I am starting to think no IPads at all this year, (maybe a small chance during the Fall.) But Apple has no real incentive to upgrade the line-up more than they already have. I mean sure I really want iPad Pro 2, but it's not like the current Pro is slow or struggling with anything. Apple may treat the iPads like they did the MBP, iMac, and Mac Pro line-up during 2013-2015 (limited and incremental updates.)
Apple released a new budget iPad to boost sales and get more interest in the iPad market (which is what they truly wanted to do since iPad sales were dropping exponentially.)
I hope I'm wrong, but seeing that the usual keynotes for spring happen in March and we still have yet to get any true evidence of a keynote... (and even after months of rumors and "supposed" model number leaks of new iPads, has me thinking Apple is trying a different and new approach to the sale of iPads.)

I have to disagree, not only to hold out hope for invites today, but mainly because iOS 11 will be heavily iPad focused, and I think Apple wants to capitalize on that with new iPad Pro's. I think it would be a mistake for Apple to not release new Pros this year as they already had essentially a off year with the 12.9 inch Pro going on 2 years old this fall.

I really hope you are right. I just got rid of my Mini 3 because the user experience was going down and i had high hopes that a new better ipad will be released in spring. Web pages keep reloading, laggy, etc.

Im hoping for a Mini 5, but if the mini line is dead then a 10.5incher will do, although i dont want to pay so much for a secondary ipad. I used the mini at work and my 6plus is not a good replacement for it. I hate it.

WWDC isn't for hardware news. Not saying it is impossible for iPad news to come from that, but it is improbable.

I'm just having fun watching all of you speculate and carry on.

If and when the Pro2 12.9" drops, I'll sit up at the table. Until that happens, I'm chugging along with my iPad2 and my Samsung tablet.

Each does what I need them to do and I've gotten my money's worth from both.
