WWDC isn't for hardware news. Not saying it is impossible for iPad news to come from that, but it is improbable.

I'm just having fun watching all of you speculate and carry on.

If and when the Pro2 12.9" drops, I'll sit up at the table. Until that happens, I'm chugging along with my iPad2 and my Samsung tablet.

Each does what I need them to do and I've gotten my money's worth from both.
Atta boi, I have a huge admiration for those holding out perfectly well with the older products, Viva la viva iPad 2.

I have to disagree, not only to hold out hope for invites today, but mainly because iOS 11 will be heavily iPad focused, and I think Apple wants to capitalize on that with new iPad Pro's. I think it would be a mistake for Apple to not release new Pros this year as they already had essentially a off year with the 12.9 inch Pro going on 2 years old this fall.
How do you know that iOS 11 will be an iPad-centric release?

The past release ios 8, iPhone and iPad, ios 9 was essentially all about iPad, and ios 10 was back to a lot of iPhone benefits, it only makes sense that iOS 11 would be a iPad release, especially with how they are pushing the iPad Pro lately.

It is crazy to upgrade the big ipad Pro with those features when you consider the price of a big Pro. resale value on it is not high enough to warrant an upgrade imo.

Luckiliy i bought mine in Dec 2015, so i got some great use out of it, and the price has barely dropped on it new. It truly is the longevity model, and i don't see myself upgrading outside of many big changes to the big Pro such as OLED, 6gig of ram and up, obviously new processor, a redesign with tougher aluminum.

Outside of that i wil use my big pro until it breaks.
I can understand that. Its definitely a powerhouse. But I doubt 6GB of RAM would be of any use at this point to be honest. The limits of iPad have pretty much been reached as far as how much power apps demand. Theres currently few tangible advantages to be gained from putting 6GB or even a faster chip in the iPad. Everything now is software dependent. Hell even the A10 chip in the iPhone is barely faster than the A9, its all about power consumption.

I'm fine with waiting.

It's all you others - the fence-sitters, the future-proof crowd, and the rest - who are on pins-and-needles anxiously waiting and speculating.

Is it this week that the media invites go out? Or the next? Or a month or two more? One person posted about the Apple Q2 report coming up...maybe before that?

Rationalize away. :D

Apple had to release this more affordable and lower-spec'd iPad first. Had they released both the Pros and the standard iPad at the same time, less people may have bought the cheaper one.

The Pro refreshes will come later in the year.
Yep! You pretty much nailed it for me. :D

The A10 actually outperforms a A9X which is very impressive considering it uses less power, the only slower part is the gpu which makes since as its only 6 cores vs 12 on the iPad Pro.

I am starting to think no IPads at all this year, (maybe a small chance during the Fall.) But Apple has no real incentive to upgrade the line-up more than they already have. I mean sure I really want iPad Pro 2, but it's not like the current Pro is slow or struggling with anything. Apple may treat the iPads like they did the MBP, iMac, and Mac Pro line-up during 2013-2015 (limited and incremental updates.)
Apple released a new budget iPad to boost sales and get more interest in the iPad market (which is what they truly wanted to do since iPad sales were dropping exponentially.)
I hope I'm wrong, but seeing that the usual keynotes for spring happen in March and we still have yet to get any true evidence of a keynote... (and even after months of rumors and "supposed" model number leaks of new iPads, has me thinking Apple is trying a different and new approach to the sale of iPads.)

Kallum.
If they don't upgrade the iPads in fall, the iPhone 7s or 8 will then be twice as fast as either of them.

It doesn't seem wise when it's already dipping in sales and the larger iPhones are already canabalizing smaller iPads.

I agree with what you say overall, but if new Pros were ready and they launched them with the updated iPad alongside them, would Apple really care that people might buy the more expensive iPad instead of the cheaper one?

I think there may be a new iPad Pro 12.9 this month and a 10.5 in the fall .... at this point who knows though what is going on with the iPad line up

Nah, I think now it's more clear than ever over the past few years. I think when the first Pro came out we mostly assumed the lineup would be Pro (12.9"), Air (9.7") and mini (7.9"). But now, having 2 sizes of iPad Pro and having an updated iPad, it's pretty clear they're treating it similar to the MacBooks (iPad and iPad Pro).

How do you know that iOS 11 will be an iPad-centric release?

I don't think there's any evidence out there at this time, but given that we're coming up on 2 years since any significant iOS features for iPad, I wouldn't be surprised to see some iOS 9 like iPad only treatment.

Long time lurker first time poster...

So here is my situation. I'm an Android guy as far as my tablets and phones up to this point. I've been using a Macbook Pro for the last six years or so for work and will never go back to a PC. So I've been in the market for a new in between device for the last year or so. I've finally settled on the 12.9 pro but I'm hesitant to buy due to the missing true tone display as well as the better wifi and LTE modules in the 9.7. I see lot's of people talking about holding on to an old ipad and just wait it out, but what are peoples opinions on someone in my situation without an Ipad at all? Is it worth buying now or waiting it out?

I suggest waiting 2 more weeks at most (just in the small off-chance they announce any new iPad updates,) but as for your concerns with the 9.7 v the 12.9" pro.... True Tone was/is not all that amazing, (I owned both iPad Pros,) and the 12.9" was the one I reached for 9 times out of 10... the true tone was a silly gimmick to me and didn't make the experience of using the iPad any better or cooler (plus I had to return the ipad once because of the True Tone causing the display to darken randomly, and even the new unit did the same thing after a month of occasional use.) I sold it and haven't looked back as the 12.9" has no display issues I can see (*knock on wood.) The iPad Pro 12.9" is IMO the best device Apple has made in 5 years. The 9.7" is really nice but it's lack of USB 3 transfer speeds and only 2GB RAM made the 12.9" the clear winner.

Thanks for the reply. That does make me feel better about not getting a 9.7. The 12.9 I really what I'm looking at.

Yep the 12.9 truly is my favorite apple purchase over a year ago.

And it looks like it wont get an upgrade for 2 years. The 4gig of ram is amazing. Truly a longevity model device. My 6 plus which is 2.5yrs old now, it too slow for my liking.

Maybe WWDC is a likely landing spots for the new iPads. They show off some new iOS 11 iPad-centric features and release new pro's to go along with it. It would be a good spot for Apple to continue to push iPad's where Mac's used to be. I remember watching WWDC years ago getting all excited about OS X updates, maybe they want to get some of that back with an iPad focus. We can hope. I just can't see iPhone, Apple TV, Apple Watch, iMac, and iPad updates all in the fall.

I still think April as WWDC is software and with 4 operating systems there will not be time for hardware too plus consumers do not pay as much attention to WWDC as developers do. 100 % agree no way all that would come in the fall they will want the fall to be all about iPhone 8 and new iMac and watch not iPad too would be too much at once

Well at this point it's looking like a announcement next week then.

Let's hope invites next week for a event the following week or mabye just a press release
Idk I'm starting to doubt April all together, I want a June release but I don't see that being possible with all the software they have to cover now. So probably a fall release and maybe a 5% chance of Something in April

In the Procreate app, more RAM means more layers you can use to paint on so 6GB or more would be great.
