I don't trust Apple pay

With all the hacks at these major retailers lately and they seem to be more frequent and the size of the hack gets bigger with every discovery of a new one.

My solution has been to pay in CASH when I buy something at major retailers, so far this seems to be the safest method and I haven't seen anyone be able to hack it!!!

There are consumer protections with credit cards though. If you get scammed, you can always do a charge back. With cash, you're SOL.

I'm one of those people who don't believe in Apple pay. It's not that I don't want to, but the problems with Apple pay are so fundamental that I don't see how they would try to push it as the holy grail. It's more like an accessory payment system.

lol so you trust your bank more. Why does this make me think back at the banking crisis...

I can only imagine how identity theft would suck at the highest level!! Hopefully :apple:pay will show to at least ward off against that angle of theft in the market and give everyone an added filter of security.

The thief could cut off your finger when he mugs you for your iPhone.

He then has your iPhone and the key to unlock your iPhone.

if he pulls out your teeth you'll probably hand him your pin pass too...

This was entertaining, but I just wanted to thank you OP for reminding me how to use the ignore list.

Except if you bring $1k cash to the store and your wallet gets stolen/lost/dropped down a sewer you are out of luck, at least you can cancel a credit card if that happens.

...and how do you expect to cancel your credit card if your phone dies on you?!?!

(The OP hasn't been back for a bit so I figure I should step in with the crazy answers while he charges his phone for the 3rd time today)

OP isn't spoiling anything but his/her own reputation on this forum. If anything, this thread has actually served to illuminate the multiple benefits of :apple:Pay, despite the OP's utterly failed efforts to find faults in it.

Agreed. The poster is either the most ignorant person I've ever run across, or just another troll. Either way, bravo. I've not laughed so hard in ages.

To everyone else, thanks. I'm still waiting on my new phone to be delivered, so I've yet to take the time to look into :apple:Pay. After reading this thread, I feel far more educated on the topic than when I began.

His phone died so he can't reply. I'm sure he'll be back as soon as he finishes charging it.

What did folks do when there was no credit cards??? They paid in cash for a 150 years, I know allot of business owners who now prefer cash over any debit or credit card and will actually give you a discount for using it.

Nothing pisses me off more then standing in line and some young fleeb using his/her debit card for a 1.50 coffee and its gets declined and they tie up the line because of it.

Pay in cash and move on for gods sake, the problem is they probably can't count that high to begin with.

The main thing of it is, Apple pay is less likely to be adopted because it's too proprietary. Plus, Apple phones die so often that it doesn't make a good payment instrument.

You're really trying hard to support your decision but your argument is very thin.

oh please! You are just starting a fight for no reason. Please educate yourself first and then come back for a "fight". Until then you are just making wild and silly assumptions that are very unlikely!

I would say to you: 'Don't be stupid' but it may be too late for that. Whatever you take out of it :)

I think IOU notes came before note based cash before that it was bags of coin and not all of those where the right shape.

How often does this actually happen? 99% of the time, paying with a debit/credit card is faster than using cash. With cash, the cashier has to count it and deposit it in the till. With a card, you swipe and sign.

I'm not advocating one over the other, both have their advantages and drawbacks, but the situation you're proposing is simply unrealistic. I could just as easily say someone neglected to count their cash until it was time to pay.

I stated my lack of enthusiasm around certain products and features and some people are losing it but, tit for tat. That's that.

P.S. There's WAY more info about you on your phone than is presented on your credit card.

No one is denying that. Also, that's completely out of left field. We're not here to talk about our phones; we're here to talk about Apple Pay, because you started this thread. And the only thing being relayed from the iPhone to the POS system is the type of credit card and a uniquely generated token used for verification.

Use someone elses phone? Even if you call later that day, you won't be responsible for any charges.

Of course business owners prefer cash, because they don't have to pay the credit card processing fee...

What happens when someone figures out how to intercept the data from the wireless point of sale device?

There is no useful data to intercept. Your credit card data is not transmitted. The merchant neither receives nor stores your credit card data. Only your randomly generated token is transmitted and a one time use cryptogram. The token cannot be used by hackers. There is nothing useful to intercept. That's the beauty of it. So intercepting data from the wireless POS device does nothing. You could post your token on the Internet and shout it in Times Square. It will not allow anyone to use your credit card.
