First of all, it wasn't faster than the 320m. Second of all, the benchmark was on quad core i7 CPU. The HD3000 turbos based on the processor. In other words, with the i5 dual core it's going to be underclocked like 2 tiers, maybe more. The review detailed it at the bottom, so no, it won't touch the 320m.

For an MBA, sure. For an MBP, 13" or not, no. But then again the 12" PowerBook G4 is what I deem Apple's finest hour.

Er... have you forgotten that the Go5200 in the 12" PBG4 was far weaker than the options in the bigger models? It was worse than an Intel X3100, let alone anything current. Just because it's discrete doesn't automatically mean it's faster.

The 12" PBG4 was overrated. It was slow, heavy, hot, had inadequate RAM expansion, and had a postage-stamp screen. I bought one of the last-generation ones in 2005, quickly realized my mistake, and sold it after 8 months.

Apple has never underclocked the CPU or the IGP. The performance of the IGP also does not depend on the number of cores.

The intel IGP in your MBP is completely different. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Also, the same goes for TF2 on Windows/Mac. Boot into Windows and you'll see performance is way better. Why is that? Because Apple doesn't give a **** about gaming. That why the Mac OS X OpenGL implementation is so bad.

Games run like **** on Mac compared to windows. It isn't a hardware problem, its a software problem.
 
I hate to be lame and use a car analogy. But Intel graphics are kind of like Hyundai to me. Hyundai was a car company 10 years ago that most people thought just sucked. Yes they were cheap, but that's all they offered. Now 10 years later some are starting to say the Hyundai is the best bang for your buck car.

You shouldn't let Intel's past GPU offerings affect your opinion of it's current GPU offerings. I honestly don't think Apple would do this, unless it was perfectly fine.

But who knows?

+1 Boy that 12" PBG4 was horrible. Probably my biggest Apple purchase mistake ever. Go5200fx... trash.

Why are people continually posting these specific benchmarks that show an i7 Sandy Bridge with HD 3000? I'm pretty sure we just saw the 13" MBP with an i5 and HD 3000. Also consider that i7 in those benchmarks is a quad core...

These benchmarks don't show jack compared to old 13" MBP and the new 13" MBP. In fact, I'd say they show that the new 13" MBP is gonna suck with the HD3000.
 
It would be funny if those specs were for the new baseline Macbook and all of this worrying is for nothing.

(You're reading the chart in the wrong direction, HD 3000 is slightly faster than the 2600.)

This statement is obsolete; Apple and Valve have since fixed the performance problems and it runs great on both operating systems.

Give it a try if you haven't in a while, and are on the latest Snow Leopard. (It seems the only people still whining are on Leopard (10.5) and are too cheap/lazy to upgrade)

In all honesty, my memory of the 12" is far rosier than it ought to be. I think I loved it because of what it wanted to be, rather than what it actually was.

Also, I might be putting too much weight on integrated vs discrete since that landscape has changed quite a bit. I think that what I'm dreaming of is simply a discrete graphics option in *all* MBPs. For an MBA I'm more than willing to compromise, less so for an MBP.

"Postage-stamp screen", however, is subjective, since that's kind of what I'm looking for (not literally). My current one is 15" and it's simply too big for what I want. I've even been looking into the 11" MBA as my next main and to be honest it'd probably work great. Still a bit unsure.

The IGP in sandy bridge uses the Turbo Mode feature similar to how the i5/i7 CPUs use it. The speed to which it clocks up to depends on the CPU. The IGP in this cpu definitly won't be as fast as it is in the quad core i7.
 
Stop posting false information in multiple threads. That list compares 3D Mark 05 scores. Compare the 3D Mark 06 scores and judge for yourself.
Instead of challenging each other, why don't we just look at the numbers? 😕

There are many more tests in the links, but it seems that in benchmarks the HD3000 seems to win, but in real-world tests it's very hit-or-miss.
