That's exactly what I did when I was 14, I saved my allowance and bought a $A3,199 PowerBook G4. Yes that is a lot of money for a 14 year old but it was all paid off by Christmas.
I live in Miami, FL and the laws are very strict. I would only be able to make 25 dollars a week. And there is a limit to how much weeks you can work.But I will try anyways. I am not going to vandalize the computer because they always blame everything that is a problem with technology on me.Why? Because I am the only one that knows how to use it. I will do the thing were I wont help them though(unless they force me). But you guys got me thinking how hard headed the vista fanboy is and how my parents would listen to him. He bought the dell laptop I am currently using last year and I have already sent it to tech support and it has had a million problems. Now the warranty is expired and my dad says that this will be the last computer until college. At least it will be with my money and I can choose which one I want. BTW will OS 11 be out by 2011
Are you currently in jail? What kind of ****ed up law is that? I worked 40 hours a week during the summer at age 14 and worked during the school year and made much more then 25 dollars a week. This was only 5 years ago.
No I am not in jail LOL. This is what I have heard from kids in school. But that is why I said I will see because maybe it is different and maybe it varies per store. For sure I know that the only stores that will let 14 year olds work are grocery stores and most have no job openings.
I worked at a Restaurant/Arcade/and Golf Resort. All really awesome jobs, try to find a nice restaurant and bus there, that was my favorite job to this point. MMM All the free food, long hours, hot waitresses and great tips.
You are only 14 years old and crying about a computer?? Get a life kid! Play sports, date girls, be a kid while you can!
What is your problem? I am not crying over a computer. I have a girlfriend and I do play sports.

haha if they have a problem with their new windows comp, somehow get someone to lend u a mini, plug it in to the monitor and say FIXED! 😛 and how anyone could actually call windows with IE 7 superior with a straight face is deeply, and sadly troubled.. possibly the closet case one suggested 😛 haha no offence duudes
My previous post was deleted but I am not suggesting anything illegal. I am suggesting you get a legit version of OSX Panther and PearPC emulator (free and legal) and use tutorials on the internet to install panther on a windows machine. This is NOT ILLEGAL
The panther thing sounds cool but what if I get arrested? I have tried ubuntu but how do I get wireless drivers? I loved it but I can't get internet on my inspiron 6000.

Can't help you on Linux, but if you apply yourself you can make some real
good money doing yardwork and chores for people too busy or too lazy to do it themselves.

Any townhouse lawn $10.00 another $5.00 if they wanted it trimmed and of course special jobs were additional.
He was so busy that he eventually hired on friends from school.
He was easily making $200.00-$300.00 each weekend and still had plenty of time for school.
Other kids make money walking and feeding pets, cleaning, helping people move, tutoring in math, English and computer skills.
All kinds of easy helpful tasks.
Working retail is a sure way to limit what you can earn.
Most of these kids just ran a 2 line free or low cost ad in their local papers.
We have the same bone headed stubborness where I work.
For what they are paying one Windows Certified IT staffer, they could afford to buy 40 new iMacs a year and greatly improve productivity and security.

Its a 600 dollar dell with home basic not even home premium. Sorry I dont no the actual model.

Ah well - if your parents had a very limited budget in mind, then clearly it's not the time for a Mac or even a comparable Dell.
Maybe as others said it's worth looking for a way to supplement your parent's budget.

If I read your info correctly your folks were going to spend $600? You can get several refurbed machines for close to that. A iBook would be around $800 Mac Mini's are close to $600 etc. The thing to do would be ask for the cash and put in the difference to make the Mac purchase with. This would show your folks you are serious and willing to contribute to get a better product. It is hard to argue with free. I mean it is hard to say I know you are spending X but could you bump it up to Y? It would not be hard to get a couple hundred bucks to toss in the pot. Someone mentioned some alternatives, part time job, eBay, Craigslits you get the idea. Good luck.
