I would search on eBay for a similar broken model where the top cover is good and swap it out. There are plenty of ones without “guts” available. Like you, it would bother me too!
I fell on some ice last winter and landed hard on my back. I was wearing my bookbag with my 16" MacBook Pro in it and I managed to dent the back right corner even though it was inside a neoprene case inside my bag. Over time I've forgotten about it. It gives my MBP some character. I'm over it.

Unfortunately the only way to fix that is a new screen. I don't think it's easy to take the screen apart I'm afraid. Maybe you can? But I'd imagine there's some serious glue holding the top cover and screen together. I dented my MB Pro once in the side, it's not a big dent and I could probably easily fix it as it's accessible, but I never bothered to.
