I think the 5C will only be available in selected markets. Everywhere else will have 4S/5/5S. But then they could discontinue the 4S to standardise the screen size and lightning connector.

Just my thoughts.

If people can't afford a high end smartphone (i.e. iPhone 5), what makes you think they're desperate for a mid range smartphone with LTE?

It just doesn't add up.

Because they want an iphone with high speed data in their price range.

If Apple only has the 5S at $199 and the low cost iPhone, it would be ridiculous to not have LTE. The Galaxy S3, LG Optimus G, and HTC One X are all $99 (or cheaper) on contract, all with LTE. In addition, almost all the Midrange Samsung and LG phones released in the past ~8 months have LTE.

I don't understand your logic. What does not being able to afford a high end phone have to do with having the fastest data speed available? They are paying the same price as those with LTE.

But the target market is clearly not the US. Even if they're selling it there.

You might want to check the list of countries with LTE networks, there are many on the list that would be considered "third world" where midrange phones are probably considered premium models.

The 4/4S isn't going anywhere. People will continue to buy them, they're the cheapest with better build quality.

Long live the 4/4S.

Personally I think Apple will keep the 4/4S. It is very popular even at 2 and 3 years old. As far as the iPhone 5 goes I do get a feeling that it could go down as the "one year" iPhone... Alot of problems and issues. Plus rumors are that the 5C will be the 5 in plastic.

I say which doesn't make so much sense that Apple keeps the iPhone 4/4S

----------

Its probably all three - screen, connector and the connectivity.
I also think they can't keep manufacturing 3 year old hardware. It gets boring :p

Technically the iPhone 4 has the same CPU as the 3GS so in reality some of it is 4 years old. That said I still use my 4 after being on a 5 for a month... The 4/4S just feels better... Honestly I think they are ageless

Well there's been a few very reliable sources that says the 5 is getting discontinued ... Coming from the people it came from makes me believe there's fact to the speculation

I finally understand why apple would release TWO iPhones this year, and completely remove the 4/4S... It's not the lightning connector, it's not the screen... It's LTE...

Or this is a simple natural product replacement cycle. They have to have something new to sell otherwise they would be out of business.

No need to all these Einteinian explanations.
