Ya it won't ever become uber valuable but still cool. Too bad he didn't have the origional packaging to give me. It was a heck of a trade...10gb 1st gen ipod for a 1gb nano! He only did it because he found out you can only use the origional ipods with Mac's. Now i don't know if I should use it in old school fashion...or keep it safe in its unused condition?

10GB first gen? Thats a 2nd gen. Looks just like it only in 5GB, 10Gb and 15GB. Oh, and the click wheel does not move, it is touch. The 1st gen actually move!

Even if it's never uber valuable, it's still something that I would like to have just to have.

Congrats DONT USE IT keep it in good condition then a few years later sell it for alot of cash, on like ebay or craigslist.

anyone here with those 1st gen ipod wanna trade?

I have some Blueray movies.
Training day
Click
Departed
reservoir dogs
Saw
Payback (my favorite)

anyway, no pressure, just a thought.

Lol someone said they couldnt give up firewire connectivity. It's pointless to have have firewire 800 when you're max speed is 400. unless you're using raid of course.

I have two 2nd gen (originally the PC compatible version, but later converted to work on the Mac) 10gb iPods. I got them when they were on clearance at Target for 50% off. There was a big flurry of people buying them and selling them at that time. It was summer-ish of 2002. They're still working very well. In fact, my grandpa was just using mine for his audiobooks. My mom just gave him her old 5th gen, so he returned it. Love them!

Just wanted to clear up some misinformation in this thread. The 1G iPod did indeed come in a 10gb model - it has the same casing and scroll wheel as the original-original 5gb, but a 10gb HDD. The 2G gor the touch wheel with the same physical buttons around it.
Yup. I got the 1st gen 10GB model as soon as it came out, was very exciting in a time when the iPod was only really known to Mac users. Sold it for a 1st gen Mini. It wasn't in pristine condition or anything and sold for a lot less than the, what, $400-500? it originally cost.

Pics or it didn't happen! =p
Agreed. :D

I still use my old 4G 20GB monochrom ipod with an ihome in the dinning room. It has not moved from its nest in years. :D I also have an 80GB 5G in a dlo dock attached to one of my HDTVs for music. The 80GB sometimes comes on rides in my car. I use my iphone for my 'on the body' player. I've been thinking about a purple mini but will wait till Macworld 2009 before I buy anything new.

I had one that had been used maybe 2 hours in total, with ZERO scratches... had been in a hard case all its life.

That f*cker cost me 2 Clamshells. :D

Yep my cousin traded me a 1st gen ipod he got a long time ago for my old nano. He's never even been able to charge it becuase he lost the firewire cable and then found out it 1st gen ipod's only work on Mac's. I now cherish my mint condition blast from the past as it rest lifeless until it becomes uber valuable:D

I have one, the first gen 5Gb version with all the original packaging including the external box and sleeve plus lots of promotional material,
FireWire Charger, long firewire cable, even have the manufacturer's dust wrap with warning also has unopened and sealed ear-buds

All in all, I've never used it, never been removed from the packaging.
It was given as a gift, on the first week of release, by one of the local Apple resellers after placing a huge order. :)
