I found an iphone 4...

Judging by the OP's responses, I really feel his intentions are not good. He came here looking for info to use this device for himself.

If his intentions were good, he would've heeded the advice given and turned the phone in.

The OP exposed his bad intentions and tried to justify it by blaming the phones owner for being drunk. Which he has no proof of.

Simply amazing.

I know, he should be really proud of himself.
Now he found out that he cant use it and wants a reward in order to do the right thing.
People like him are a waste in society....

Whats to stop anyone from actually stealing a phone from a drunk person at the club, and going to iforums to ask what to do with a iphone thats been bricked by the owner the next day, but under the pretense that it was lost.. Things that make you say, Hmmmmmm

That would probably be the one thing you WOULDN'T want to do... I'm not sure about you, but when I'm drunk I get very violent (When someone pisses me off) So if someone tried to steal my iPhone while I was drunk, they would wish they never lived that day.

I have no sympathy for the stupid things people do while drunk, but don't you remember what it used to be like to own an Apple product. You were joining the Apple community, everyone would share secrets with each other and help a brother (or sister) out if they were having trouble. Do not turn Apple ownership into ownership of a just a superior product.

Edit: I'm saying do everything possible to find the owner, even if it was their own fault for losing the phone.

He didn't buy it. Despite whatever story, he could have robbed it from someone.

He's here trying to figure out how to turn someone else's device into his own device.

Umm maybe they shouldn't have been drunk n lost it in the first place! I know what the right thing was if it didnt have a lock on it i would have called whoever on the phone and returned it but it had the lock and they turned it off. I found it in VEGAS theres no way the Police would be to any help!

They should have a reward for this kinda crap if it were me and my lost phone id never see it again so why should I do the right thing...other than the fact that its of no use to me!!

If it's no use to you, get it to a police station or the place where you found it.

I would think that the person would wait until you're sloppy before they picked the phone up off the table and besides if you're toasted you wouldn't now anything until the next morning. Heck you'd just figure you lost it anyway.

The simple answer is you can't do anything with it. I'm not sure how you'll get pass the passcode and the ESN is probably flagged by now.

Remember he claimed he found it while on vacation so returning it at this point to the place found is out as well as the police station. Again If his claim is legit the best he can do is take the phone's sim to att/verison to see if they can read it or find out their process (if they have one) for re-uniting owners to lost phones. Personally I wouldn't trust just dropping off a (lost out of state) phone with my local carrier, I just as well keep it for parts.

Haha that's probably true. :p

You and I have got to go out and party! I'll hide your iPhone and then blame the OP. :D

+1 withhold list here. You're a POS that is trying to figure out how to use a phone you "found" (which of course turned into "stole" the second you tried to use it for yourself). If you had no intentions in keeping it why not turn it into the lost and found where you found it? Karma's a bitch...... you'll find that out soon I have a feeling.

Wait...didn't someone "FIND" a iPhone 4 in a German bar about a year ago? I remember I read out it in Gizmodo. Didn't the original person that found it say it was left there by some drunk and he tried to find the owner but couldn't, and then when the phone was locked he sold it (reward?)? And didn't the finder NOT return it to the place where he supposedly found it?

Wow, this thread is amazingly similar to something I've read about in the past.

Hey you found it, that's my phone. Give me back my phone:p

Nah just turn the phone in to Verizon and move on if its that serious.

Personally I would go to Verison and ask what the process is for returning a lost phone to its owner that resides in a different city/state. If the process is done by the Sim card I'd just give them that first and once they contacted the owner only then would I hand over the phone. If after a month of follow ups here and there and still nothing, then the phone would simply be kept for spare parts.

No sim in verizon's iPhones but surely verizon could look up the owner.

and that's why i tell everyone with an iPhone to download some sort of lock screen info app. mine has my wife's # on it, so if anyone finds my locked phone, finding me is a lot easier

so he couldn't leave it at the hotel front desk? If he was on vacation, why did he take the phone back home with him?

The holes in the story, tell the true story.

OP, return the phone to a VZW store. You have one in your area. Do the right thing.

you can even make your lockscreen wallpaper something with your phone number/email on it.

I have it set up as a small strip at the top, with lockinfo below that.

How do you know they were drunk? This would suggest that you know who lost the phone because you saw them or perhaps you stole it from them...

You aren't entitled to anything. Do the right thing and turn it in.

What app do you use for this?

1. Get the text you want on the screen such as "If found, please call xxx-xxx-xxxx"
(I used evernote).

2. Press Power+home to take a screen shot

3. Go to settings, wallpaper, and set that screenshot image as your wallpaper.

4. if you are using lockinfo, set it to offset vertically the same distance as the height of your message. It was trial and error to get it looking just right.

Here's an example:
