I give up. I simply cannot get my M1 MacBook Air to upgrade to Monterey. Currently, running Big Sur 11.6.8, Monterey keeps falling while downloading.

1. I've rebooted the MBA many times.
2. I've tried installing in Safe Mode.
3. I have over 160 gigs in available storage so memory needed is not the issue.
4. Internet connection is rock solid.

Does anyone have ideas? Help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried contacting Apple?

Are you using the same installer repeatedly? Have you tried trashing it and downloading a fresh copy of the Monterey installer (I know its big). Sometimes the installer can be incomplete or just plain faulty.

OR: are you saying you cannot download the installer app?

You say, "Monterey keeps falling while downloading". Did you mean Installing?
Perhaps you could describe exactly how you are attempting to Upgrade to macOS Monterey.

It keeps failing during the download. I can continue the download and it will pick up where it left off but keeps failing over and over. I have tried locating the installer to delete but it's not showing up in my Finder searches so I don't have a physical file to delete.

I am now. Thought this avenue could also help. Plus, they will likely make me take it in and that's not super convenient. Hoping, crossing my fingers, for a simpler solution.
At this point in time, from your posts, it seems you have done everything within the realm of simple solution user side. You likely will need to take it in.

Yuck. Went through the support app and it failed in Recovery mode as well. Backing up and will likely have to erase and reinstall macOS. Hate when this is the option…. Just sayin.

If it never finishes downloading, then the installation is not really the issue.

Installers get cached in other directories until they are complete, and then we see them as the installer in the Applications directory. Cleaning out the existing/partial download would be good place to start.

The fun part is finding the partial/corrupt download to delete. It may vary by OS, as I see different reports of locations over the last few years.

It might be: /Library/Updates

This tip seems to find and delete via the Terminal (I have not tried this myself).

reset your modem/router. and/or try it late at night, when there's less traffic. or call apple, before you go thru the whole reinstall thing...

Are you using Software Update or downloading from the App Store? If you've only tried one, try the other. The App Store version seems to fix a lot of these kinds of problems with Software Update.

Tried this option as well. Thanks though.

If what @kitKAC shared doesn't work either I must admit that I believe that you joining the public beta program for just macOS might help you. When or if Monterey 12.5 is installed you should just turn off Public Beta access again.

You can do this with the seedutil command quite easily. Meaning you don't have to go through an Apple website to first enroll you Mac and then check for updates after the fact. I don't think there's a 12.6 beta on Apple's servers so you ought to be getting 12.5.

I'm sure that help for the 'seedutil' command is available upon request :)

The other way I have is using DOSDude's downloader app that can fetch macOS - you can use this in addition to all that is proposed.

I think there's actually one more option, but I'd like to know more about the progress before involving myself in a tour de force of macOS installations.

That's all I have for now.

I did a fresh install on my M1 Air, Erased the SSD then Montery was installed via the internet and went on with out a hitch! Good Luck
