If you bought the iPhone with you Amex, then call the number on the back of your Amex and ask to be transfered to the "Purchase Protection" department.
Tell them that you are calling about the iPhone. They'll know. You'll need your receipt.
I got the refund from AMEX too, was totally not expecting it since they don't have to do anything, but it is one of the reasons I use AmEx for all of my purchases. I am surprised AmEx did not try to get some PR out of this, they deserve it.
As to the people who are saying we are taking advantage of the system and how can you sleep at night, give me a break. If anyone should be losing sleep from guilt it should be Steve Jobs. This was all planned from the beginning. Apple made a RIDICULOUS profit margin from the early adopters, dropped the price 33% and let everyone scream for a couple of days, then offered a $100 store credit, knowing full well almost everything in their store is well over $100, meaning that people with that credit will end up putting more money into Apple. It is a devious and brilliant marketing technique to screw people over and come out smelling like roses with a hefty profit. Microsoft needs to bow down to the new greedy evil empire.. Apple.
BTW, I am not anti-Apple, I think they are an amazing company product-wise, it just seems like some of their practices could be viewed as a little shady.

So you got AMEX to cough up some more $$. You're a genius. But what are you going to say next year when AMEX raises their 'yearly fee' another $25? You don't REALLY think you're gonna get that money for free, do you? You, me, and everyone else will pay for your 'sticking it to the man'. AMEX fee? Gone up. Auto insurance? Higher. Price of bread (because you shoplifted that box of Skittles)? Up another 10 cents.
The lack of thought SOME of you display is scary. Heaven help us all if you're over the age of 12 and you still think this way.

What is your problem? Purchase protection is part of being an AMEX member. We are not frauding AMEX in any way, shape, or form.
If AMEX was giving back $200, and we got the $100 apple credit, that would be rather fraudulent.
Dont be jealous because we chose to pay with the right credit card 😛

Yes, AMEX has purchase protection, but the title of this thread tells me the OP also got the $100 from Apple (there's your 'purchase protection' right there.)
I'm not jealous, nor am I saying it's fraud per se. But if the OP got any other type of consideration (from Apple, AMEX, wherever), then what he's doing is wrong. Just because he got away with it doesn't make it right.
Like I said originally....we ALL pay for someone scamming the system. I got my $100 from Apple. Pursuing any more $$ is a scam.
OP: would you care to give us the complete story? All refunds, cash, discounts, etc. and from where?

I can't help but think you are honestly jealous that you didn't do the same thing. What the OP did is not a scam. Pursuing that extra $100 is not a scam. He isn't cheating anyone out of any money in an illegal way. AMEX was considering the entire $200 for anyone who asked, up until the point Apple decided to give out $100 credit. That is why the OP got $100 back instead of $200. If there was no apple credit, AMEX would have given him $200. That is how it works.
How this has anything to do with your auto insurance or stealing a box of Skittles is also beyond me.
And for what it's worth, if you hate annual fees, get a card without one. Cause you know, they exist. I have one. From American Express too. Actually, none of my cards have annual fees. Time to get a new card maybe?

American Express is aware the phone price fell $200. They also know Apple gives $100 credit. As per purchase protection, they refund you the "difference" which is $100+sales tax. I thought that was pretty clear in the original post, despite the title.
I see no problem in utilizing the services I pay for as a member, and fail to understand how this is a scam.

have you tried using the apple remote/iphone/universal dock on your tv? i only bring it up because i see the dock in your photo. i'm still using a dock from the touch wheel ipod with the cover removed, but if the new firmware's tv out functions with the dock/remote like on other ipods it might be an interesting setup.
glad you got your money back. now all apple need to do is release a SDK
I use that dock with my video iPod. I haven't tried the iPhone to TV yet.
Yeah, would love to have an SDK for the iphone/ipod touch. There are a couple of apps i would like to create but can't at this time.
