Im not getting into this just adding an opinion...continue to fight amongst yourselves. :p

I haven't used the Fire, as I'm in the UK, but I was looking forward to seeing it and have been interested in seeing reviews.

From what I have seen it is a perfectly okay tablet, which has some problems because Amazon needed to get it under the $200 price point. It seems the Nook, with a slightly better spec, but at a higher price seems to be the tablet the Fire should be? If Amazon had decided $250 was the golden price and built accordingly there may have been very few complaints.

I believe that like it or not, we have seen the capabilities of the iPad and have an expectation of our devices now, (no jerky, laggy interface for instance). If Amazon needed another $50 to get the Fire to a similar level they should have done it, it would have still been very nicely priced.

I still have every hopes for the "Fire 2", but this time around its seems like its almost there, but not yet.

I own and iPad 2 and my mother recently picked up the Kindle Fire. Here's what I tell people who are interested in the Fire: "If you haven't used an iPad, then the Kindle Fire is a great option". My mother really enjoys hers. However, I find it almost unusable due to the choppy UI and poor touch responsiveness. I sometime have to hit an application 3 or 4 times just to open it. Disclaimer: I'm fully aware that the Kindle Fire wasn't introduced as a direct competitor to the iPad.

i bought my sister a kindle fire for christmas. it will be fine for what she will use it for. an ipad would be a waste of money on her. she doesnt need all that crap. whatever though my sister will find out for herself if she likes it. if not amazon will take it back. not a big deal at all.

I love how everyone skims over the fact that he scammed the store to get that price point.
No store is selling it for that price.
Someone scammed a Target and posted the picture of the receipt and all the vultures ran out to dupe other stores.

Wrong. I was shopping and that was the price listed. Maybe you should ask questions before you embarrass yourself.

Have I used the Kindle in depth? Yes. Do I agree with more than half of the OP? No. I agree it is slow and sluggish but like others have mentioned, the security and so forth can easily be changed. I won't argue anymore about this however if I were given a choice between the iPad and the Fire, I'd get the iPad. Why? It just works... that's why.

The OP's review reminds me of my experience with the iPod Touch 1G. What a piece of crap!

Anyway, it's hard to compare this to an iPad at all. That's like comparing a Ferrari to a Tata Nano or something.. Maybe you were expecting more because of the HP Touchpad.. but that was a freak accident for $99

There is no argument here only discussion of our experiences. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences.

As far as the security, have you changed the security and tested it? There is still a big hole if you call and ask Amazon they are aware of it.

If I had to choose between the Fire and a brick I would choose the brick because it also just works...lol jk

Embarrass myself?

Here is your exact quote:

after a nice manager did a price match from another store

Why would you need a price match if the price was listed?
Why do you need a manager's approval if that is the price?
What do you mean by listed?
Why not go to the store that has that price?

How does that old saying go? better to keep your mouth shut then to open it and remove all doubt?

;)

First I do not need to prove anything to you. Go Troll someone else’s thread or better yet get a life.

Lastly a Walmart in my area had a sale on the Kindle Fire on Black Friday. I missed the sale because I was working. I went to my Walmart and asked if they would match it. I didn't lie or scam anyone. So take your slander elsewhere.

*UPDATE*

I got the Kindle Fire browser working faster. You have to disable Flash, the Silk Server and use mobile view. So working as a cell phone browser it will not frustrate you. It still is not fast but it speeds it up rather quickly. No more 1 to 2 minute page loads.
It seems to play games well. The only thing I found this tablet does well so far without stuttering.
I have never had such a temperamental electronic device, I lie I had a Palm Treo…lol Seriously though one day it works and one day it just locks up and becomes unresponsive.
It appears others have had similar results as us on the Mac Rumors. Even Chris Prillio gave a very similar review to mine. What bugs me is places like CNet, Gizmodo, Twit.tv, Ilounge and many more seem to miss the mark when it comes to being honest how the device works. I will think twice before trusting their advice on future devices. I think it could be a “great device” but it is not in its current state.

Do you understand how price matching works?

Price matching can get you a lower price than what is listed in the store you are in.

Price matching usually requires manager's approval.

If you can get the low price without wasting your time driving to the other store then why wouldn't you price match if offered by that store?

Exactly

Exactly

Because I work for living and thought I would try my neighborhood Walmart. I told the Manager he could say no. But I am a good customer and he said I didn't have to drive to the other store because I was already shopping there.

BTW thanks for Trolling my thread.

Relax...take a deep breath...and re-read my post. I wasn't arguing against you.

Your first clue might have been that I quoted "Zimmy68".

I am sorry. I was wrong, I just couldn't believe someone would label me as a scammer. But that was no excuse thank you for correcting me.

I am surprised they price matched a black friday ad. I bet any other store would have rejected it. you figure these prices on black friday are for stores that have like 6-12 of the actual item in stock. I dont know it just seems weird to pricematch a doorbuster ad for black friday.

I love my Kindle Fire. I would much rather have an iPad, but I can't afford one. Just so you know, there is a way to put a password on it. I have one on mine right now. You just have to go to settings and it's the first thing under security. :) It took me a while to figure it out. It's main purpose is for reading books.

That's a little egotistical, don't you think? Why should anyone listen to you about what's "better" for them? Amazon has one of the best return policies out there, so people can decide from themselves after actually using the device.

The Kindle Fire is not, has not been advertised as, and should not be considered an iPad competitor. It clearly does not compare from the outset. It seems like the only thing wrong with your Kindle Fire experience was that you were expecting too much.

Amazon is positioning the Fire as an iPad competitor

Look at their site:

A rather hypocritical "review" laced with lots of misleading statements which reveal that it was an impulse purchase. That it was roundly bashed before being used for a reasonable amount of time speaks volumes.

To be surprised that it's purpose is to sell Amazon content is akin to saying iPads are not tied into iTunes.

I happen to have a new Fire myself. Having researched it before making the purchase, I'm very satisfied. It's a terrific companion to my iPad 2.

Especially since it's different and not meant to go head to head with Apples tablet.

I've been a frequent Amazon customer for years and trust them completely. Customer service has always been stellar.

For me, the two tablets are a great deal of fun.

I tried it.

Returned it.

Was not being too critical of it, but I felt it was waste of $217 (tax).

Since you are a huge Amazon shopper, it is perfect for you, but that's it.

I got one for $150 for my dad on craigslist from a kid who didn't like it :) love living in Boston. Any way it doesn't come with a usb cable just a charger. I am going to have to order on on ebay and see if I put all my free books on it. If not then it is kind of useless to me tho the amazon unlimited video thing looks pretty awesome of a feature.
