The Max is heavier, felt like a brick in my pocket with an Apple silicone case.

XR isn't far behind, but should be slightly better. All recent iPhones are heavier than when they had aluminum backs.
Yep, the cost of having wireless charging.

I didn't get used to larger iPhones after the 5s/SE. I tried an 8 but it was too uncomfortable to use, slippery and heavy. I hated it and got rid of it. The XR seems way too heavy and bulky for me to use comfortably.

you 100% will get used to it, trust me.

i came from a 6s to a xs and im still not used to the 5.8 inch screen. On top of it i got a pop socket to make it easier and its still slightly uncomfortable to reach the upper corners. 6s has the best size period

I'm coming from a Pixel 2 XL. So I'm loving the slightly smaller size but bigger screen. Previously had a 7+. Liking the XR much more.

It's heavier than the XS but lighter than the XSM and 8+. It is a bit thicker which gives it a slightly different feel. Solid, I'd say. The weight of the XSM bothered me but the XR does not.

So finally I got my XR this morning! And I find myself happy with almost everything, including the display which I consider not goid, but gorgeous.

However: It’s quite big. And heavy. Coming from the 6S, this is a really different animal. I have large hands and am used to handle my phone with one hand. Impossible with the XR. This bulkiness of this thing becomes even more obvious when I use it with a case. I know many people won’t, but to me, the phone is just too slippery without a case and actually even harder to handle.

So the question is: will I get used to this? Or should I get the XS? Money is not even the biggest concern here, I really preferred the XR for its less polished look and most importantly, the battery life.
I have a 6S Plus sitting next to my XR & can’t get over how much lighter the XR feels. I am a woman, small hands, size 5 wedding ring & doing things one handed is pretty easy for me. Getting used to all the swiping & not having a home button will take a bit of time to adjust to

Thanks everyone. Of course, I‘ll give it some time, I merely considered testing the XS in parallel. But maybe I don’t have to and will get used to it over the weekend. I should explain maybe that I‘m extra cautious because I suffer from chronic tendonitis ..

Sounds like no brainer to get XS. Enjoy the better screen, better form factor, better cameras, and less pain.

Too heavy, too large. I’d take it back. It’s a phablet phone. Hit the pause button and wait for the 2019 phones.

XR is very heavy, starting feeling pain in hand. Just spent about couple of hours. It’s thick too.

You’re kidding, right? Don’t get a Max! It’s .5 ounces heavier than the XR.

The XR is .6 ounces heavier than the XS and LIGHTER than the 8+.

I’m not noticing a difference between the 8+ and the XR as far as weight; probably because the XR is slightly lighter anyway. I LOVE the slight size difference though - makes the XR fit just a bit better in my hand.

My friendly advice and I truly mean friendly.
Take a couple deep breaths. Now pick up the phone and do these things consecutively,

1. Open up your email.
2. Read and email.
3. Swipe up
4. Send a text.
5. Swipe up
6. Open a website you haven’t frequently in a while and scroll through it.
7. When you get the reply swipe up and see what they said
8. At the bottom swipe right to go back to safari
9. How was it? Did you enjoy the new method of functionality and larger screen?
The fun has just begun.

In a day or so try going back to a phone with the button and compare.

When my Max was on the way I bought a Miracase Silicon case from Amazon to have something to put on it right away.
The Miracase is rather thick and made the Max feel more heavier and bulky than it actually is. It’s a good case though.
A few days later I got a Spigen Liquid Air Armor and it was big difference on the Max. The Spigen is slim fits great and not bulky. Makes the Max easier to handle one handed.
I never used any of the Apple Cases because they’re always open on the bottom.

Well, I guess I‘ll try this thing out over the weekend. The problem is not so much the weight (and not at all the lack of a home button). The problem is that my hands are just large enough that I can reach every corner of this phone when I really stretch my thumb. So it is kinda tempting to keep using my phone with one hand. But stretching my thumb that much is precisely what I want to avoid. So when I want to use the XR, I need to develop a new, two-handed technique. Should be doable. And it‘s probably better than getting the XS, which would also mean more stretching than with the 6S.

If it’s your first bigger phone, it’ll feel like a baby iPad at first, first 2-3 days. First week you’ll go back and forth whether you like it or not. By the end of the second week if you last long enough, you’ll love the extra screen real estate and will probably take advantage of it by taking more pictures, watching videos, etc. it’s hard at first because face on having that much screen, it feels like a huge phone that is just a screen at first, but after you learn how to work with it and maneuver it, it’ll feel like any other phone but with just a bigger screen. Hope you grow to love it

No honestly it feels heavy, probably because of the weight distribution, size etc....not sure why. I read someone else also talked about it’s weight & bulkiness.

I picked up a XR today and the screen was intially a bit jarring but I've already gotten used to it. I think some apps need optimizing for sure.

Dumped the 8+ and replaced it for the x.
Dumped the x for the max.

I liked the x a lot but I tell ya, I really don’t mind the size of the max since nearly all the face of the face is screen.

I look at the Xs with no regrets having chosen the max

If you come from the 6s the XS would be bulky too for the matter...

That's why i went iphone 8, and i would have gone for the SE2 if it has existed.

This is the exact thought that made me decide on the Xr over the Xs. Just like OP, I was really afraid of the new size of the new iPhones. The Xs already was "too big" for me, so the Xr wasn't really any worse in that category.

Plus, there is the benefit of more screen real estate on the Xr. Over a course of the previous 4 years, I went from a 6 to an SE and back to a 6. During those 4 years, I decided I was willing to give up a little bit of ease of one handed use for more screen so I figured the same would apply when going from the 6 to Xr.

All the above considered, I decided to go with the Xr. This of course was after I told myself the Xs and Xr were my only choices, I did not want to get another iPhone 6/7/8.

Seems the OP is overly concerned. When you have a 14 day return period, utilize it, that’s what it’s therefore. If you don’t find the phone to be in your best interest, then return it and find something that is. Seems like simple logic.

This year is my first plus sized phone from the X. It did take me a few days for my eyes to adjust to the PWW and using two hands to use the device. Now, I don't regret it at all.

I never got used to the Plus, it always felt too big and clumsy, I ended up selling it privately after about 6 months and bought a second hand 7 to use, I now have the XS and it feels just right to me. It’s a far better size to handle.

Why are some of you guys shock that some prefer a smaller and lighter phone? If the phone works for you then great but it may not be right for the next person.

I went to check out the phones today and was very underwhelmed. The colors look cool but they are big and heavy.
