Yep, the cost of having wireless charging. The Max is heavier, felt like a brick in my pocket with an Apple silicone case.
XR isn't far behind, but should be slightly better. All recent iPhones are heavier than when they had aluminum backs.

you 100% will get used to it, trust me.
I have a 6S Plus sitting next to my XR & can’t get over how much lighter the XR feels. I am a woman, small hands, size 5 wedding ring & doing things one handed is pretty easy for me. Getting used to all the swiping & not having a home button will take a bit of time to adjust toSo finally I got my XR this morning! And I find myself happy with almost everything, including the display which I consider not goid, but gorgeous.
However: It’s quite big. And heavy. Coming from the 6S, this is a really different animal. I have large hands and am used to handle my phone with one hand. Impossible with the XR. This bulkiness of this thing becomes even more obvious when I use it with a case. I know many people won’t, but to me, the phone is just too slippery without a case and actually even harder to handle.
So the question is: will I get used to this? Or should I get the XS? Money is not even the biggest concern here, I really preferred the XR for its less polished look and most importantly, the battery life.
Thanks everyone. Of course, I‘ll give it some time, I merely considered testing the XS in parallel. But maybe I don’t have to and will get used to it over the weekend. I should explain maybe that I‘m extra cautious because I suffer from chronic tendonitis ..
XR is very heavy, starting feeling pain in hand. Just spent about couple of hours. It’s thick too.
My friendly advice and I truly mean friendly. So finally I got my XR this morning! And I find myself happy with almost everything, including the display which I consider not goid, but gorgeous.

If it’s your first bigger phone, it’ll feel like a baby iPad at first, first 2-3 days. First week you’ll go back and forth whether you like it or not. By the end of the second week if you last long enough, you’ll love the extra screen real estate and will probably take advantage of it by taking more pictures, watching videos, etc. it’s hard at first because face on having that much screen, it feels like a huge phone that is just a screen at first, but after you learn how to work with it and maneuver it, it’ll feel like any other phone but with just a bigger screen. Hope you grow to love itSo finally I got my XR this morning! And I find myself happy with almost everything, including the display which I consider not goid, but gorgeous.

You’re kidding, right? Don’t get a Max! It’s .5 ounces heavier than the XR.
The XR is .6 ounces heavier than the XS and LIGHTER than the 8+.
I’m not noticing a difference between the 8+ and the XR as far as weight; probably because the XR is slightly lighter anyway. I LOVE the slight size difference though - makes the XR fit just a bit better in my hand.

This is the exact thought that made me decide on the Xr over the Xs. Just like OP, I was really afraid of the new size of the new iPhones. The Xs already was "too big" for me, so the Xr wasn't really any worse in that category. If you come from the 6s the XS would be bulky too for the matter...

Why are some of you guys shock that some prefer a smaller and lighter phone? If the phone works for you then great but it may not be right for the next person. You’re kidding, right? Don’t get a Max! It’s .5 ounces heavier than the XR.
