I’ve kept a case my 12 and have had no drops and yet this nick still happened at some point. Anyone else?

And yes, I regularly take the case off to clean debris.

The stories that I see on this forum about dirt etc. trapping inside 3rd party cases scratching phones has made me use only Apple cases.

Because of course the Apple cases are infused with magick that defies physics and keeps all possible dust away from the finish.
