My Siri remote died, and my Apple TV 4K is the original model. I can't justify paying $60 for a replacement remote, and I equally can't justify paying for the current model, which should be about to be updated. Really need this updated model to come out already.

Serious question: what do you expect or what do you want to see in terms of evolution of the AppleTV device? I have several variants of the 4K devices, and, frankly, they do all that I expect them to do.

I would be interested in hearing what y'all think the next evolution of the device looks like.

Should be coming soon But then again with Apple you never know. Lately they’re not on their mark

Just like the last two releases, the "evolution" will be that Apple stops making the A15 so they have to release a new Apple TV 4K with a chipset they are still building.

Faster, more powerful more capable more intuitive, which means at least A18, more advancements in picture but mainly sound options

I want/need an HDMI stick to accompany the box, but we need something building on the foundations of what is already there

I want this on my main TV as well as my secondary TV's around my home, I don't want to see or more specifically use the menus of the tv and the sticks i use now Hisense, Roku, Amazon & Google TV/Android TV are all vastly inferior.

a camera isn't needed on device and i don't know how it would work if it was but maybe something like the kinect/wii would be amazing especially as Apple own that tech something small thin clever and stylish enough to tit atop an impossibly thin tv bezel, only apple should toit justice, others could, but not as good.

I'm on board with many of the changes that most of the main commentators have been calling for but apple could surprise us with something we didn't know we wanted.

I know the tv is a boring product compared to everything else, but the lack of rumors is interesting. Hopefully we still get that refresh this fall.

Any new version of the ATV is going to be one that will eventually have Apple Intelligence as part of it so it at a minimum it will have an A17 Pro in it.

Happy to wait it out for another month or so.

What are you running on it that could be pushing the hardware. The Apple TV hardware is much faster than any other the other TV boxes out there.
This does not sound like the OP’s problem, but one issue with the current generation is the passive cooling, it causes thermal throttling when playing games and some streaming apps like Plex. IIRC, the issue on Plex only impacted HDR content, so a lot of users most likely didn’t have this issue.

Games on the other hand, the passively cooled A15 on the ATV4K3 can start thermal throttling within seconds of playing certain games.

It is so bad that the older actively cooled A12 in the 2021 ATV4K2 can have better performance and stability with most games than the current generation.

Now, whether Apple cares, is a totally separate question. They are very inconsistent when it comes to gaming on their devices, especially the Apple TV. I’m hoping that the next generation Apple TV has active cooling.

The Apple TV is one of my favorite Apple products, probably second favorite after the Mac. It is definitely one of my most used.

While the actual rumors for the Apple TV are a few and far between, I care more about them than iOS and iPhone rumors.

If you don’t mind secondhand, check eBay.

I personally hate the newer style, Siri, remote, and hate the placement of the Siri button on it. Plus, some of the apps were designed for the original Siri remote, and they don’t work with the newer one.

I purchased two used original Siri remotes on eBay, both were a lot less than $60.

Someone in another thread mentioned this third party remote for $29. Might do the trick for you for now.

For me, multichannel lossless passthrough (I think this is the correct term) via Plex or other application. This is the big one for me. I don't know if this would require a hardware or software update, but I hope we see it. I know there were rumors with latest version, but I haven't been able to confirm if this is the case or not.
