Apple has its users hypnotized into buying new hardware they don't need. There is nothing the Apple tv needs as a media device that can't be added through software updates.

It's like you are begging apple to release a new device just to buy it because you are bored and have money to burn.

The only thing Apple tv needs is something most of you don't use or know nothing about and can also be added through software.

It needs pass-through audio for hi end home theaters to not use the internal dac in the box and to also allow hi res audio with Apple music to be passed to standalone dac.

THATS IT! THERE IS NOTHING ELSE NEEDED.
I’ve never had an AppleTV but am considering replacing my Roku stick with an ATV. I’ll probably wait until there is a new one, just to get in on the most current rather than what they are selling today.

Just wondering if there will even be a late Autumn/Fall event. From what I can tell the only products that will be getting an update after the iPhone/Watch update today are the iPad Pro (M5 chip), Airtag (U2 chip), Apple TV 4K (A17Pro or A18 chip) and perhaps the Vision Pro (either an M5 chip or just a new colour). I believe all the M5-based Macs will not launch until 2026. Given none of these look to be dramatically new form factors, they could all be launched via a simple press release.

Agreed. I'd add the updated HomePod Mini to that list as well. Rumours of only a fairly minor refresh - a more recent S-series processor and maybe some audio improvements - I suspect makes it another candidate for a press-release-only launch later this year.

I can't imagine what would cause this that couldn't be fixed by a reset.
It is the center of our home theater and we stream everything through ours.

That said, I am considering an upgrade as the current one seems to have developed issues with HDR content.
Do you have the latest generation, or an older one?

Did anyone see the video at the start of the event that showed an Apple TV box with something being plugged into the front ?

I was hoping that a new ATV 4K would be shown, so disappointed there. I have the 4K version prior to the current one and have been patiently waiting for the latest. Want two as I have two new LG C4’s that could benefit. Waiting…..

The event was a disappointment. I guess we wait some more.
In the context of this thread then definitely but with the Gurman

Yeah. That got me so excited that maybe Apple TV was going to be part of the presentation. The intro video also featured a HomePod in pretty much the opening few frames and that made me think we might get at least those two rumoured new products announced at the event but sadly not.

I'm expecting a press-release-only launch for Apple TV, and hopefully HomePod Mini, and that's fine by me, I just hope it is soon. Maybe I shouldn't start hoping too much until a bit after 19th September since perhaps Apple will want to keep its servers and logistics chains clear of too much other stuff to concentrate on any initial rush of orders for what it did announce and wait until that surge has subsided a bit before having a load of Apple TV and HomePod Mini upgraders and new purchasers (I'm the latter in both cases) descending on its web site and stores. Perhaps the very end of September or early October is a realistic hope for the new Apple TV announcement?

Same here. And I'm in a similar position – patiently waiting/same model. Really looking forward to being able to buy the (upcoming) latest from Apple, on release day instead of partway into the product cycle. The current one has been excellent on my LG G1.

I know people often say things like "what does the current version not do that you want it to?", but it's always good to be using the latest & greatest Apple technology as there are often lots of 'quality of life' improvements rolled in along with the key new features. Plus for things like tv, you generally know you're set for a good while as it's just so high quality.

Apple TV 4K gets such high use in my home, and upgrading will allow the current version to be added to a TV elsewhere in the house that currently has to rely on less capable methods to view content.

Also it's clear there are likely improvements to the FaceTime experience coming to the next version, which will be appreciated. Also gradually making Apple Intelligence available everywhere you interact with Apple devices will help round out the experience in the lounge.

I'm hoping the new one hasn't got the issue with LG tv's like mine where it loses signal and Simplink won't turn off

HDMI-CEC works well with my LG (G1). Is the issue with yours limited to a particular model (newer or older)?

It's very neat to be able to ask Siri to "turn off the Lounge Apple TV" and along with the tv 4K, the LG turns off + soundbar.

Mine is a C3 model, although I have same issue my older C1 despite changing the Apple box

Ugh, have an LG G5 coming tomorrow and trying to figure out how long I'll have to wait to buy it an Apple TV.
I would just pick up a used one on eBay and save a few bucks. They're still very capable streaming boxes. IMO the $100 or so would be worth it to avoid some horrible smart TV interface -- even if it's a stopgap before later upgrading to a new one.
