I hate to resurrect this thread, but I had one out today (top one) and it didn't hurt a bit. However, I may be updating this post once the injection wears off!

You were lucky then! I had one out in November and it was aching for a few days but nothing major. It came straight out though so only took about 15 minutes from start (injections) to finish (spitting blood!).

Nice.

I might have to get the others out though too as they're starting to irritate a bit.

Whoa...you got seduced at the dentist? Where was this exactly? I may have to revise my practice of generally not going to dentists.... ;) (Although if you don't remember a thing, maybe it wasn't so great. But surely it must beat painkillers!)

--Eric

Not that way you perv. :p So I don't know the right term for it. Technically, you're still conscious, but you aren't aware what is going on.

I was on laughing gas when I had all four of mine removed. The only thing I remember was the dentist saying "well, this one's coming out in a thousand pieces".

shrugs

Possibly "sedated." Seduced means something slightly different. ;)

Also, I still have all of my wisdom teeth and they ain't going nowhere. Yay for big mouths!

Yeah, it is sedated. Thanks. I know what seduced means. It was late. I couldn't think straight.

you lucky people with your well-behaved wisdom teeth...

I was out cold when I had all 4 taken out, don't remember a thing.

lucky you, then. :p

i had all 4 of mine cut out. not one of them was growing in properly...they were all upside down and sideways. i was frightened by the x-ray. seriously.

i woke up at the end when they were finishing up. i'm so glad i didn't wake up before that...i'm terribly squeamish and probably would have puked everywhere. i did pass out later as i was leaving the office, though. almost puked...man, would that have hurt!!!

glad everything went well, nermal! :)

To those who have had theirs removed, how old were you at the time?

What was your recovering like?

I ask because, its known as a fact that the longer you wait to have them removed, the more invasive the surgery must be.

I, for example, had all 4 removed at the tender age of 15 as my teeth were perfect from years of braces that 4 new wisdom teeth would have ruined.

My wisdom teeth hadnt even sprouted roots yet, they were basically floating enema l pellets under my gums, probably wouldnt have sprouted for another 3+ years.

My recovery was quick and the swelling was nothing compared to others I have seen.

i was 20 at the time. my healing went fairly quickly and very well, because i did all the things i was told to do and kept everything clean. i was deathly afraid of getting dry sockets!

i was so out of it after surgery...

mom took me to McDs for a shake, then the bank and then home.

I dont recall any of that, just waking up the next day in my bed.

I also remember eating yogurt, while I was on a couple of Percocets, and feeling this stinging sensation in my wounds, i was "tripping" or something because I distinctly remember thinking there were little Miner Gnomes chiseling into my gums...and the walls were melting too.

However, I may be updating this post once the injection wears off!

Update time: Still not really sore, just annoying. There's definitely some pain there, but it's not a sharp pain. Getting through the night was the toughest, I think I swallowed a lot of blood because I coughed a bit up in the morning!

I have to get the other tooth out in a few weeks, and I can't say I'm looking forward to it now! I've heard that the bottom teeth are the worst, fortunately I don't have them.

I had them out at 23, all 4 were compacted and had to be chipped out. Recovery was about a week. The pain killers helped the first week then I felt it more on day 5. Once the stitches devolved I was fine. Eating was a challenge because they don't want food near the wounds and 2 it was painful to eat so I remember trying to eat out of the center of my mouth for a few days.

... I remember trying to eat out of the center of my mouth for a few days.

i did that, too...isn't it amazing how one can "chew" food by pressing it against the roof of one's mouth? ;)

the evening of my surgery, my mom made me some very fluffy, soft scrambled eggs. i had to squish them against the roof of my mouth...all because she thought i couldn't live on yogurt smoothies and V8. :)

I'm 28 and my wisdom teeth never came in. My dentist told me they won't.. something about them being jammed up under existing teeth. So hey, lucky me.

I need to get all 4 of mine removed. But, they don't hurt, and haven't hurt since they started coming in, so I'm not going to put myself through the hell of having them removed until they actually start hurting.

i was just 25 when I had mine out, although due to the wonders of the NHS, I was just 24 when the dentist originally referred me to the hospital.

Nermal> I coughed up and was spitting small amounts of blood for a couple of days but nothing too serious. Provided you're doing the salt water gargling thing every day and not putting too much pressure on your sockets it hopefully won't last too long!

By the way, how disgusting is having to clamp down on gauze to stop the bleeding and then have to replace/renew it every half an hour. Yuck!

All depends on the dentist/surgeon. Some give you way too much novacane, so you will feel it for quite a long time afterwards. Just be glad you didn't get too little novacane for the procedure! :D

Yes, even normal fillings are a PIA when the novacane doesn't work.

All the normal shots (and shot locations) do for me is numb the tongue and face.

Not to fun when the dentist had to call "research" alternate methods, that were not drilling a hole in the jaw to shoot directly into the root (that didn't work out well either).

Had one out. Didn't hurt too badly, but it was kind of scary having the dentist pry my tooth with a bar. While I was awake. I felt a lot of pressure.

Only three more to go ...
