I had all 4 of mine out on Jan 2nd. They were impacted and I have a really small mouth.

I was awake, but very heavily drugged. I had laughing gas first, and it took a long time to get me knocked out. They almost gave up and were going to have me have it done under general at the hospital. Then I got an IV with a lot of different drugs to get me high.

I didn't feel a thing while it was getting done. It didn't bleed much at all after I left the office. I had to eat soft food for 2 weeks after. I still can't open my mouth all the way.

Personally I never take out more than 2 at a time, this lets the patient chew using the other side. Granted they have to come in twice, but 3rd molars can get complicated at it always better to do it with out a time constraint.

I need to get all 4 of mine removed. But, they don't hurt, and haven't hurt since they started coming in, so I'm not going to put myself through the hell of having them removed until they actually start hurting.

You might not want to wait that long. My mother had her two remaining ones taken out last week and the week before, and did not enjoy it. She's 56.

I had my top ones out last June, mostly because A) They were a little crowded, and 2), they lined up with gums on my lower jaw, as my 2nd molars on the bottom had been pulled when I had braces to make room for the lowers.

I went in once for a filling and the right side first, so a bit more Novacaine for that. It only took about 15-20 minutes, but the dentist said if I had waited until I was 30, it would have taken an hour. The left side was easier, as the roots weren't crossed over each other. And all I got for the pain was 800mg of ibuprofen.

I got mine taken out in January and they weren't hurting at all. But they were starting to crowd my teeth, and they didn't much like that. The problem with waiting until they hurt is that means you are going to have more hurt...Well it makes sense in my head.

Personally, I got all 4 taken out and it was nothing. They knocked me out, took em out, I went home and layed around, took a pill, ate applesauce, and watched some TV. Slept of course, too. But really, I took the vicodin for a couple more days, but I probably didn't need it, it really didn't hurt.

I was swollen for awhile though, on one side, but, eh. Now they are gone!

I had mine taken out just after the new year by an oral surgeon (totally the way to go, IMO). I was out cold...the last thing I remember him saying is, "You're going to feel a little tingly now." The first thing I remember after coming to is the end of the car ride home.

The gauze he stuffed in there got pretty bloody, but there was no blood after that and no pain whatsoever. I only took Advil the first day and nothing afterwards. I was eating solid food in less than 24 hours, and he used dissolving stitches, which were gone in less than three days.

All in all, it was a very pleasant experience (well, as pleasant as it can be when someone violently extracts three of your teeth :D ).

Gah!

I need 4-5 shots of novicaine and a large amount of valium for little fillings.

Wisdom teeth? Hell no. I'm keeping mine (when they come in :p) until i can bare any amount of pain.
:)

Big mouth....

Okay here's the deal......I got one wisdom tooth pulled out about two weeks ago and it was on the bottom. I had no problems as far as pain, soreness, or dry socket....
Now today is a different story....I returned back to the dentist and got the other side worked on. Both top and bottom of the right side was removed. The issue is that the bottom tooth is the one that hurts like h@#l....
My whole bottom side of my mouth is throbbing badly and I have to force myself to eat something before taking pain medication and it just hurts sooooo bad!
Someone mentioned on this forum that, if a person has a big mouth then they don't need to get them removed. Well I've got news for him.....it doesn't matter how big or small someones mouth is, they need to be removed on all types of people for many reasons.
So don't think that just cause you have a big mouth you won't need to get ur wisdoms pulled, because I have a very big mouth....LOL and I still have one to go.......three down, one to go!!!
Pain free at last!!!!!!!!!

Awake...

And I was awake for both of the surgeries.....I would rather be up and alert, than out and unaware of whats going on with me and the procedure itself.....
