I don't mind it all that much but what really ticks me off is when it pops up to do it's thing and as someone aluded to earlier, it then says "updates not installed due to missing components". WTF? So, download those missing components then! Hell, I don't even know what the missing components are.
My favorite Updater dialog box is attached below- I had to screenshot this one when it appeared! I understand what they are saying, but you would think they could reword it to be just a little less bizarre!
the 6.0.2 cs4 updater has something in it that removes the old adobe updater and the annoying messages disappear. i found my copy through version tracker. hope this helps.
you can use a program called little snitch and i had the same problem but i set the to block adobe air and updater so the show up on the dock but it stops all network traffic and stopped the updates now i can finally finish a project in PS or AI with out a need less update that needs to be installed
How ironic is it this: the very company that produces tools for design shows no knowledge of concepts of design and functionality. Sadly, disguising the glaring flaws and bloat in the software under the mask of "professionality" has worked well for them thus far .
Indeed. The Updater is only the tip of the iceberg. Photoshop had a good user interface back in the day but then they've just shoehorned more stuff on it without any redesign to make it fit. No, fake windows is not a redesign.
It still amazes me how awful elementary things like the Illustrator color picker are. It also doesn't help that the Mac versions are obviously just Windows ports with no attention paid to make the apps work like OSX software.
It's very unfortunate that the competition is to a large degree even worse or just doesn't have the features we take for granted in PS/Illustrator etc.
