I have 3 charging cables by my bed. One goes to my iPhone, one to my Apple Watch, and a 3 meter length one for my iPad. This way I can use the iPad as I go to sleep. When I wake up in the morning everything is fully charged and ready to go.

I use all three units all day but rarely have to charge them during the day.

Since charging your :apple:Watch is such an inconvenient BIG problem how have you/do you deal with your iPhone?
[doublepost=1516482531][/doublepost]I would like to know where I can find this little adapters I’m ok with having to use the micro adapter for it.

That's written in the very first sentence of my post :) I have Lightning cables sticking out from behind the desk, couch and two on the side of my bed. So I just plug my iPhone in wherever I want, no need to switch cables or search for an adapter. Nothing inconvenient about that. I know it's a very first world problem, but Apple is always about convenience and charging an Apple Watch for me is the opposite.

A very simple example of what happens at one of my business trips (this happens weekly):
  • I travel to another country.
  • I go to the office and find a place to sit.
  • There is a power outlet underneath a desk across from where I am sitting.
  • I go to the other persons desk, go underneath it, connect my adapter and then have my 2m Lightning cable go to my desk.
  • I can charge my 2 iPhones there, my iPad and AirPods whenever I want.
  • Then suddenly my Apple Watch is without power.
  • Only way to charge it is to grab my Apple Watch cable, go under that same desk, unplug my Lightning cable and plug in my Apple Watch cable.
  • I have a MacBook 12" with the regular AV adapter, but very often I'm already using that 1 USB-A port, so plugging the Apple Watch in a power outlet is the only option.

The same goes for the apartment or hotel I'm staying in. I am charging my iPhone. iPhone is full. Now I want to charge my Apple Watch. If I could just plug in the Apple Watch or the puck to the Lightning port it would save some hassle and room in my bag.

My laptop bag is already filled with cables (USB-C Cable + Charger for MacBook, Powerbank + Charging Cable, smaller Powerbank + Charging Cable, Lightning Cable + Charger for iPhone, iPad and AirPods, a world power adapter for all different sockets, etc), so if I can do away with another cable, that would be great. Because one dedicated 2m cable that can only be used by an Apple Watch just doesn't make any sense to me.

Sounds like the Apple Watch is not working for you. You need to sell it to someone, and get a battery powered watch.

The Apple Watch IS a battery powered watch. I think what you mean to say, is find a watch that doesn't require to be charged like the Apple Watch does.

i bought a 2nd watch charger cable for $25. keep it in my work bag, along with a multiport USB charger and a couple lighting cables.

but now with my S3 watch, i dont need to charge it during the day.

So, I have many places in house where Lightning cables are just available for an iPhone or iPad to plug in. The same goes for the office. However, every time I want to charge my Apple Watch I have to inconveniently unplug a Lightning cable, find the Apple Watch charging cable with connected puck and then connect it to the adapter, charge the Apple Watch and then unplug it again and reattach the Lightning cable. When travelling it's even worse because because when you have one outlet in an inconvenient location (under a table for instance), I don't want to unplug the Lightning cable every time I need to charge my Apple Watch.

You could have a dedicated Apple Watch charging location in house, but I travel a lot and I have to dive under desks at each location to connect to outlets, so I need a more flexible solution. I still don't understand why the charging puck has the cable embedded inside instead of being able to connect a Lightning cable to it like this:

better_watch_charger.jpg

With the above cable you only have to bring or use one cable and charge your Apple Watch everywhere without bringing the very long Apple Watch only cable.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem yet? I heard about some concepts and projects trying to solve this problem, but they couldn't get it Lightning certified and therefore they switched to MicroUSB which doesn't solve the problem at all.

Or would something like this be possible: The Diskus MicroUSB Apple Watch charger

image-jpeg.642525

And then use a Lightning to MicroUSB adapter with it:

You would basically have the Lightning to MicroUSB adapter inserted in the Diskus charger all the time and you would be able to charge your Apple Watch with every Lightning cable available at any location.

I think there is an official Apple accessory available too, but that pad is huge and pretty expensive:

MLDW2

Is there an accessory that I am missing or are these the only options?
Where can I find the puck by itself? I have a micro hdmi cord. Is it apple or a different brand

This is my major sticking point with the apple watch. If I go spend a couple nights at my finance house, I need to bring multiple charging cables. Same with my travel I hate to carry around all these cables. Then I worry about running out of battery. I have a Fenix 5 that lasts about 10 days, but lacks some of the great features of the Apple Watch. If I could just figure out a good system for charging and too many cables. I love the puck idea.

You might be in luck with one puck solution, I backed the diskus on kickstarter and they are supposedly in the process of finally getting ready to ship (missed the Oct '16 shipping target by a little bit).

Micro USB pucks I've seen online in the past. Not made by Apple.

I've also picked up a two-USB power adapter to plug into a wall outlet. Takes are of my AW and iPhone (and iPad, which I'd charge at a different time).

I know this thread is a little bit older, but since were still talked my about it, I wanted to note that i picked up the white Apple charger and it’s really nice. It’s definitlwy in the pricy side at $79, but it comes with a 6’ (I think. I don’t measure it, but it’s longer than the standard iPhone cords) lightning cable. The base is a little bit heavy so it doesn’t move around, which is also nice for keeping the cable from falling to the floor. The charging disk folds down so the unit is flat for travel so it’s actually pretty compact.

Not as nice as the mock-up of the charging Puck with the lightning port built in, but all in all, a pretty nice charger.

https://www.hellonomad.com/pod - been using this for awhile, it is really nice. My wife and I use this when we're not at the house or we want to charge our watch in other places than right beside our bed. It's a 1800 mAh battery and wraps the Apple Watch puck in a metal body. Seems to be working pretty well - has passthrough charging too so you can charge it while it charges the watch.

Check my followup, too.

Apple's UFO-style charging pad connects to any Lightning cable -- but I think you already know that (and I understand what you mean about being bulky and expensive).

I thought this before I bought one, but it has been one of my favorite purchases ever. With the combination of the soft pad, weight, and hinge, it feels like I'm not ever charging my watch. I simply set it on the pad, either flat or on its side, and the watch is good to go when I'm ready for it. It's also incredibly easy to pack for trips, since I simply unplug it from its lightning cable (and I have a separate lightning cable that lives in my travel bag). Highly, highly recommended.

It's not much thicker than the puck itself, is it? It looks as thin as a Magic Trackpad (or thinner?) and easier to pack than a laptop charging brick. Almost reminds me of the original iBook's UFO-shaped adapter, but even smaller.

Apple should have been putting one or two of these out on the AW tables in their stores to show them off better. I think it's a great design, more versatile than the stands that everyone else makes.

Agreed on all counts. I think it's one of Apple's best-designed accessories.

Definitely. Maybe even less than 1%. But in my world it happens pretty often (I'm an IT consultant and travel to many different places around the world). Two of my colleagues have the exact same need for their Apple Watch. They hate the extra Apple Watch cable and would've preferred to just be able to stick the Lightning cable directly in the watch.

Powerbank Apple Watch cable charge the bank pack it in your brief case with an extra cable PROBLEM SOLVED

It's also one of the reasons I don't take the Apple Watch with me every time, because it's very annoying. However, when I am at the office it is pretty handy sometimes. When I walk away from my desk, I just leave everything there and I will still get my notifications. But I love watches, so leaving the Apple Watch at home and putting a real watch on my wrist is something I gladly do.

By the way, the travelling is really fun! I would never complain about that.

I see, it looks nice, but pretty big that Sena case. The problem with that travel pouch is that you would still be using the regular cable instead of your Lightning.

I was just trying to see if there is another way to charge your Apple Watch in with the Lightning cable. But it seems that the official large and expensive Apple Charging Dock is the only one that allows for a female Lightning in.
[doublepost=1516865337][/doublepost]If you have Series 3 it’ll charge on a power mat just like iPhone X

What are y'all doing that you need to charge the watch throughout the day?

We charge ours at night, every night, and easily get a full day of battery out of our S0's.

I've had mine on for 4 hours now, including a 40 minute workout and I'm at 84%.

I've been wearing mine overnight -- works great as my alarm clock. So I need to pick a time during the day to charge it.

Thankfully, charging doesn't take much time. Even though induction charging is inherently slower than a direct wired connection, the battery is tiny, and it doesn't take long to fill up. I park my charger on the arm of my couch, then, and charge the watch sometimes while I'm sitting there with my laptop.

Gotcha, in this situation it might make sense to have two AW's. One for sleeping and one for daytime. I'm thinking this is what I will do with my S0 when I upgrade; keep it for sleep tracking.

Ehhh, yeah, but like you also said, it lasts a long time between charges, too. I can probably get away with charging it once every two days while my wife and I watch some TV.

Some other users say they charge it while they take a shower and then wear it all the rest of the time (including overnight), so their watches aren't spending more than twenty or thirty minutes on the charger. Leaving it on the charger overnight doesn't make it any more full than it would be otherwise.

I started a poll thread asking where everyone keeps their charger. The vast majority charge it at their bedside, but quite a few do it somewhere else in the house. I think bedside charging is mostly out of habit.

I think bedside charging is mostly due to nightstand mode. If you’re not interested in sleep tracking or don’t like wearing a watch to bed, nightstand mode is a fantastic alarm clock.

For most people, yeah. For me, my vision is so nearsighted that I can't read a bedside clock; and over time, I tend to learn to ignore audible alarms, but the tapping on my wrist from the Watch catches my attention more reliably.

OP, do you have a AW 0-2?

The 3 gets 2.5 days with heavy usage for me. I usually charge it while I’m taking a shower or at night (love nightstand mode). I use Alarms, Messages, Mail.app, Spark, Weather, and Things 3 heavily (multiple times per hour) all day at work for 10 hours minimum. I’ve also got raise to wake on. Charging it has been a complete non-issue even when traveling. I’ve never once seen it go below 40%. Maybe an upgrade is worth it for you ...
