Have they started rolling out 3G in smaller markets? Or is it still limited to larger areas?

I'm in VA and the 3G coverage (according to AT&T's map) is sparse at best unless you are in Northern Virginia, Richmond or the Virginia Beach area.

My area isn't a large city but it isn't small either so not sure on the order they are going in.

I am south of Chico and I was told 3G would be here before July 11. That did not happen, but it sounds like maybe now it is on. May be time to get a new iPhone 3G. It was easy to procrastinate while I thought 3G wasn't on here.

I live in a small town in central CA, about 30 minutes away from Fresno, and we didn't have 3G here until a couple days ago. There are a lot of small towns in this area so I'm assuming that they all have 3G now too. Pretty exciting because I didn't think that we would get it this soon!

Hi guys, I don't post on these threads much but I wound up here doing a "3G chico ca" google search. About a week before July 11th launch date I submitted 3 emails a day to AT&T corporate to get 3G in the greater Chico area. I was pressing them, especially given that Verizon has had mobile broadband for the past 3 years.

Within 4 days I had a call from a representative from AT&T who said that 3G would be rolled out in our area "tentatively" on August 26th. After reading all your guys' posts I switched on 3G on the iphone and viola! sure enough, there it was.

So i'm not sure if they plan to roll out a larger more comprehensive rollout in the near future, but it looks like things are going as planned! And here I was worried I'd be stuck paying $10 extra a month for the rest of the year for nothing!

3G is rolling out in smaller areas too finally...

Chico, Ca is a smaller city (college town), and 3g rolled out 3 days ago, and a very small mountain town about 10 miles away is also covered (Paradise, Ca)..

However when speaking to AT&T, they weren't sure if it was in testing, or really rolled out.

BUT, i usually get between 300kbps and 500kbps, I tested at 1.1mbit downtown tonight =)

I'm actually living in Paradise right now and frequently make trips down the hill. Although I do pick up 3G signal, it has been the lowest bar, and is generally not very useful for "high speed". To be honest I wasn't expecting 3G signal in Paradise at all.

3G signal seems to be the strongest near the lower part of Skyway by the driving range / golf course and old mills.

I knew 3G would be implemented in this area sooner than later, given the fact that the greater Chico area has upwards of 100,000 people. It's clearly a market ready to explode for AT&T.

I'm in the same area (Sanger/Reedley).

Funny thing happened; I had full 3G coverage (5 bars) till about a couple days ago, I'd say about the same time 2.0.2 came out. Well I never updated to 2.0.2 but now I have 0 to 1 bar of 3G! I don't understand, maybe AT&T was testing 3G in my area then pulled the plug?
