- if you had a mate that has an iPhone contract sim, you could put that in your new iphone to activate it. Then you would be able to use any other O2 sim card, PAYG etc

-Or you could just wait until there is jailbrake software available, and use it on any network

Im in exactly the same situation - CPW appear to have given me a phone but not a contract. I ordered online and it was delivered to a local store who just gave it to me without checking any kind of ID.

I know my payg chip works in the phone so if they dont sort it out soon ill just get a simplicity tariff off of o2 until CPW realise they F**ked up.

Just a little follow up and a tiny bit of advice maybe!

After 14 days of non-stop calls to CPW and O2 we finally seem to be getting to the bottom of things. 14 days of me phoning constantly, being firstly told I don't exist on any of their systems to then being told oh no wait sorry you do exist, we have found you now and you will be connected in 24 hours. I have been told this everyday for the last 7 days and I was getting pretty damn annoyed with speaking to people who seemed like they didn't give a damn and who didn't know have a clue what they were talking about !

Anyway I finally managed to speak to a manager today who went away to try and resolve the issue and then after taking all day to do that called me back at 4pm to say.......Oops yes we have messed up , we haven't logged you details correctly and the only way you can now continue is for you to return the iphone to us, close down the sale and start the reordering process right from the start again.

To say I was angry was an understatement, 14 days for them to actually admit the messed up and that the only way they could resolve it was for me to start all back over again.

I am of course refusing to return the phone and(for the following reasons) and told CPW this.

1. I have now transferred all of my information and files over to the phone (Not a huge crisis but not something I want to have to do all over again with a new phone)

2. If I return this phone, am I ever gonna get a replacement?? With the shortage of iphones in the country at the moment and CPW incompetence I am 100% sure that if I return this phone it will be months before I see another one

3. Why should I be inconvenienced because of their error.

Anyway this guy basically told me that I had no choice and I had to return the phone or else I would never get connected and I could not be put any other sim card in it because I would be breaking the law (Seriously that cr*p might work with other people but not with me !)

Anyway I just wondered if anyone knew where I stand, I mean legally can I keep the phone. I was sold the phone, for which I have made payment for and it was delivered to me. Does this phone legally belong to me or is it the property of CPW/O2. If I don't return it is there anything they can do, I mean I am sure they can't send someone around to collect it, but could they block the phone and prevent me from using it.

I really don't see why I should return this phone, but I am want to know if there is anything they can do, or is it basically their error for loosing all of my information in the first place

Sorry for that being so long !

Well, I briefly had two iPhone contracts with O2 last week

I got my iPhone on the first day on sale and got my first bill by email the day after. I was somewhat surprised to receive an email with another bill for a different amount on the following Wednesday.

I phoned O2 to be told someone had taken out a contract in my name the day before, but was later told it was "just an error in the system". Not exactly confidence inspiring

Now thats just greedy, there is poor little ole me with no contract and you have gone and gotten yourself two ! :p

I am really quite disgusted with the service I have recieved and I have absolutely no confidence in them ever being able to get anything right which is why I am not parting with my iphone, coz I know I will never get it back

you can get yourself an O2 PAYG sim and just add iphone service onto it here: https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=29&q1=25

Thanks for that, I think that is what I am gonna do, get a PAYG sim card and add on the web browsing bolt on , but my question is what are these "iphone services" that I can add or remove on my sim card. Are they saying that a PAYG sim won't work unless they have done a special thing to the sim card ?

The O2 Pay & Go SIMS are free aren't they, just go and pick one up, plug it in and see what happens. If all that O2 have is a payment from you and no contract then I can't see that they have a leg to stand on, and besides they have their hands full at the moment sorting the whole iPhone mess out, doubt they have time for court cases as well.

I dont see why you couldn't walk into the store let them cancel the sale, then refund you and re-set up everything and they give you the same phone back??

Or is that being far to logical:confused:

No your right your being totally logical, but the person that I spoke to said this was not an option for me, as I bought it online I had to return it to them via the post(I guess they expect me to pay for this as well !!). If I could get this all sorted in a local CPW I would be down there like a shot but it would apear they have some totaly ridiculous rules that I should have to follow !!

Sell it. Use the money to buy one that is connected to your account, and have some profit.

Ah right didnt see that you bought it online. Have you tried getting in touch with o2 and letting them know what a mess cpw have caused?? They might be able to do something - seeing as it's their network.

Have spoken to O2 and as helpful as they have been (about 1000 times more useful then CPW) they have said without CPW sending them through the information then there is nothing they can do.

Oh well I guess I will just sit tight and wait for the baliffs to turn up to repossess the phone !! :D
