Apple really needs to hit the ball out of the park so the average consensus isn't one of BLAH. They've hyped this thing so much more than normal keynotes.. I really hope they have something special to show us.

Part of me is hoping for a complete surprise.. Apple television, something..

Apple have issued 6 words.
"I wish we could say more".

What hype?

It wasn't only stretched. Bigger screen (a huge change), thinner, different dimensions, different materials/colors. They are similar, but it is a redesign.

If anyone mistakes a 4 for a 5, they would mistake a many phones. Just because Jo Blow who knows little about tech can't tell them apart doesn't mean they are basically the same.

Yep, amazing how vastly different these look! How long do you suppose it took the CAD designers to create the same ratio screen, same phone shape, same beveled edges, same positioning of the hardware buttons of the iPhone 5? I mean, LOOK at the difference! How anyone could mistake the 4 for the 5... /sarcasm

Now look below. This is a redesigned iPhone that looks completely different. No brick shape. No simply stretching lengthwise. No beveled edges. Hardware buttons redesigned and repositioned. You think anyone (even Joe shmoe) would mistake this for a 4 or 5?

… You're ignoring that the back of the iPhone 5 was different. And with your logic, adding approx. half an inch to the iPhone 6 still isn't a redesign, as it wasn't to you before. And furthering that logic, the back of the 6 has simply swapped the glass windows with metal ones, which is even less of a redesign than the 5 was to the 4… yet somehow the 6 looks very different than the iPhone 4. Even though nothing changed between the devices. ;)

Edit: Sarcasm intended.

Response above.

You really just want to be right. Being "vastly different" is not the definition of a redesign. It is a redesign.

Just to list a few:

1) "Best pipeline in 25 years"

2) Giant white building with super security around it

3) Location of the Mac launch 30 years ago

4) A countdown timer

5) Re-directing Apple.com to the countdown timer

6) "And so will a whole lot more." - on the countdown page

For Apple, they have hyped this big time. If you don't know that, then you haven't followed many keynotes. ;)

If this mobile payments thing is all part of the new hardware, it's huge. You want to know how you create a revenue stream that dwarfs those iTunes media and all purchases? Take a small bite out of every purchase people make. Ask Visa and MasterCard about this strategy about 30 or so years ago. Everybody accepts cards now, and those companies make a killing. Apple won't take quite that big of a cut, but it will be in the game and hopefully make it way more secure.

What else does that mean for us? Well, easier payments. If you can store cards on the phone, less stuff to carry and less likelihood of getting your credit card stolen. Also a financially healthy Apple means we keep getting good stuff.

"A financially healthier Apple"? Good gawd man, how much financially healthier can a company get?

BTW, you do realize stores and Android phones have been utilizing NFC payments for years now? A lot of us have been able to leave our wallets at home for a while now. Google Wallet allows for transfers from bank accounts and credit cards, keeps track of all your purchases, gives you itemized monthly statements, allows you to email cash to friends and stores all those loyalty cards for you (and automatically brings up a loyalty card when you enter that store. Nice feature.) If Apple can do half of that with iWallet, I'll be happy.

Eh. Have you owned both phones? I have and currently do (old 4 for work). They are very different in every way. If anything, I'd argue that the 5 was a bigger change than the 6. Not only a screen size increase (design and everything else), but the aspect ratio change (which is remaining the same). The 6 they are "just making larger". The difference in weight from 4 to 5 will not be matched with the 6. Anyway, the 5 and the 6 are both redesigns.

I don't know, I just think we're in for some HUGE announcements! Anyone else kinda getting that vibe?!

I'm old and jaded. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised by something great, than to be disappointed by something average. I don't have any kind of expectations. I'll still be enjoying my iPhone 5 for another 6 months until my next 2 year rebate.

More significantly, i'll be busy playing Destiny starting in 3 hours.

If I was set to buy the iPhone 6 as soon as it hit the shelves, i'd definitely be antsy about it.

I was disappointed last year and I'm sure I'm going to be disappointed this year. If the leaks are to be believed, we're getting a phone with no wow factor and lazy design. I believe Tim Cook will be the death of Apple.

I'd love to be wrong but I'm just so used to being disappointed by Apple. We'll see.

My advice is to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Apple also has paid ads on Google. When I search apple on Google there's a paid ad for the event.
