Also... if this were the real story... hold down the home button and say "Call ___" ... starting with "Mom" or "Home" is often a safe bet.
At the very least, Siri may correct you "did you mean ____" to a contact that works.

Right, right. Because we all know how trustworthy the typical store employee is ....
And I didn't find it in a store, anyway.

Since I was clear the first time, and I'm asking just that very thing, how to return it,
I can only conclude you're being needlessly difficult.

IF I CAN RETURN IT WITHOUT "GETTING INTO IT", WELL THEN FINE.
I'M ASKING HOW DO I GO ABOUT DOING THAT???

So since you've nothing to contribute, please stay out of it.

OK, some messageboards have where you're from underneath the username.
This one doesn't, so I can only assume you guys are saying what you're saying
because you think I live in some fantasyland where people are decent.

So let me clarify: I live in New York City & I found the iPhone on the subway.
If I return it through "official channels", let us say, two things will happen:
1) I'll be punched in the face for "being a sucker" by trying to turn it in and not keeping it or trying to sell it.
2) The phone will never be heard from again, as the people I turn it in to
will undoubtably fight over it to see who gets to take it home.

Are we all clear now? Good.

Well, I don't care what you'd call it. How's that grab ya?

Please see previous reply.
And as far as turning it into the cops goes, I'll just ignore that for, again, the above reasons.

Wait a second... Let me get this straight. You found a 5S, your "trying" to find the owner. The phone is locked, you aren't gonna turn it in... at this point either smash it with a hammer for fun or buy a display case for your collection. Turn it in to the cops or the service provider and let someone else deal with it. The way it sounds now, the original owner will never see it again so just pass it off. Your not going to do anything that you should so why not let someone else deal with the problem.

People think they can sit around and not do ***** but accomplish things. What in the world is happening to people these days?

Common OP, use common sense. Your obviously doing NOTHING, we have suggested everything.

Perhaps give it to the police, if all else fails...you mentioned you're in New York...I know NYPD is really trying to crack down on phone burglary since it is becoming a big issue in New York. You'll be playing it safe by taking it to NYPD and see what they have to say.

The only other thing to do is to wait. The owner will (hopefully) eventually recognize that they lost their phone, and will probably (hopefully) call the phone or text it. If they call it, you can answer without a passcode. If they text, the phone might show a preview of the text (maybe they'll text a phone number or something).
