I have returned many iPhone's that are outside the 14 day period. Call their customer service or start a chat from Apple's website. Ask them for a onetime return and let them know you are purchasing another iPhone and I am sure they will send you a return label. You have nothing to loose.
I have also had success with this. When the 7 came out, I purchased it and decided a few weeks after my return window was up that I would rather have the 7 plus. I reached out to Apple, explained the situation, and was given a full price credit for my 7 on trade in for the 7 plus - meaning I effectively just had to pay the difference between the two phones to upgrade.

Not sure if they still make exceptions like this, but worth a try.

Thanks for the tip! I will be giving that a shot. Hopefully they just do it that way and I pay the difference if I do decide to do that!

If you option to buy appelcare has expired that means you have had it for over 60 days, doubt they would take a return now.

With all due respect, I truly have no idea what you're talking about. OP wants to return his/her Pro for a Pro Max and appears to outside of the 2 week window. His/her question has nothing to do with AppleCare+.
As stated by @bcontorno Apple has been known to make exceptions with returns after the 2 week window has passed. That's what I agreed with, as I've had that happen with me as well. Nothing about AppleCare+ referenced here at all.

Really, please explain what the OP is talking about here then?

Yes, in that post OP was talking about AppleCare. I was not responding to that post. Again I did not reply to that.

OP’s original post was asking about options for returning the Pro and going back to a Pro Max after the 14 day window had passed. Another poster suggested contacting Apple for returning the Pro, that’s what I responded to. It’s not that hard to get.

Yup, that’s what I was trying to explain also. I’ve done it too, had to do it as a return/repurchase. But they had no problem with it and I think I was 5 days over the return period. Then another poster chimed in. Let us know what happens please.

I was trying to stay out of this, but your broken quote tag is bugging me. You're clearly talking about two different things. OP was discussing the 14 day return policy, as DevinNj said. The AppleCare post you quoted was a secondary point brought up separately from the return window discussion.

Yup, I don't understand what's so hard about getting this?

I was talking to the guy about my AppleCare situation since he was speaking of swapping.

🤦‍♂️

You're confused. OP was originally discussing the 14 day return window, which is what DevinNj and most everyone else was replying to. One person brought up AC, OP replied to it, and the discussion switched back over to the return window.

And i commented on what OP said about his AC, other poster was confused. Thanks for joining in though.

But the point is that you replied to a comment that was in no way related to the AC sidebar of the main discussion. The only confused one is you. I think we've beat it to death now, though, so let's move on.

Sure, maybe re read the thread on what op said and other poster, and what i replied too.
Not sure why you need the last say nothing to do with you lol.

Sure, let's recap once again then.
  • OP posts about 14 day return window.
  • Discussion proceeds about 14 day return window.
  • AppleCare is brought up in one post, where the poster was seemingly wanting to trade phones. OP replies to this.
  • Discussion moves back to 14 day return window and the possibility of being able to return the phone even though it's outside the return window.
  • You reply to one of these posts and reference the now out of context AC post.
  • Now we're here.
Hope that clears it up.
