I have mixed desires for the iPhone 5...

The jump from the 4S to the 5 for me was like night and day.
I think that's because of the slight redesign, lighter body, aluminum back and taller screen. Of course it will feel so different. Speed wise, I don't think it's night and day unless you're coming from a 4.

At the end of the day, the iPhone 5 is a wonderful phone, but it's still an iPhone. At the end of the day, the Galaxy S3 is also a wonderful phone, but its novelty and giganticness will also wear off and it will be just another phone to you. Finally, at the end of the day:D it all boils down to the ecosystem. By now people are pretty set in their ways when it comes to apps, user interface, the way the device works with other devices, etc. This will make it very difficult for me to switch at this point even if Tim Cook takes a dump in a box and marks it iPhone 6 in the future. By now my entire family has iDevices and between messaging, FaceTime and iTunes/music it would be very difficult for me to switch at this point no matter how awesome an Android/Windows phone may be

I just got a Galaxy Nexus to try out. While I absolutely love jellybean the hardware wasn't up to par even next to my 4S. I think the S3 would be better but if you're curious why not try? Most places have decent return policies. Me personally, I'll either be going back to my 4S or getting a 5. I rely heavily on iMessages.

I had a SGS3 for a while, nice, but slightly clumsy oversized screen, a downgrade in handling from the SGS2 (which I still have).

My biggest problem with the SGS3 is the feeling and look that it's made from recycled ice cream tubs. Horrible, cheap, shiny plastic.

The iPhone 5 looks better, handles better, and functions better (as many have said, multiple widgets end up annoying, I ended up with one clock widget and 8 icons on the Android home screen), Android needs tweaking and rooting and messing about with to get it to work properly.

Perhaps I was lucky, I have a blemish free iPhone 5, it has excellent battery life, wifi, and signal (better than my iPhone 4, or the SGS3), it is fast, smooth, and just works as it should.

I don't think I could have a better phone than the iPhone 5, well, perhaps a jailbroken iPhone 5 would be the only thing better I can think of ;).

The thing that has been getting on my nerves lately is having to navigate through menus just to toggle settings and also having to kill my apps mamually. I'm not the biggest fan of widgets but theses two things could be addressed easily without clutter as well as real notification LEDs. Aside from speed the iPhone 5 really hasn't changed. I'd love to see some more software enhancements. The Facebook and twitter notification center access were nice additions although I'm not the biggest user of the two services.

I had the first iPhone from day 1, then the second, then I switched to Android (Droid X). I regretted it. I am now back with the iPhone 5.

I know Android and Samsung tries to one-up by offering alittle more, but at the end of the day, the software isn't as integrated, isn't as nice looking, no update support (they tell you to buy another new phone to get the latest, even when you just recently bought it.).

I know it's easy to be lured by extra features but will you really use it? To be fair, even some things I don't use on the iPhone, like the HDR feature.

So deduct to the things you really care for and make your own decision. For me, at the end of the day, I want to do the things I like without hassling with details and confusing menus. The way android handles settings, preferences, and configuration is way too confusing. (The POS crashes so often, I usually have to pull the battery out to reset it, and I eventually had to use a tape to keep the battery cover in place.)

The reason the iPhone is getting criticized is because people hold Apple to a much higher standard. iPhone scratched? Exchange it! S3 scratched? Whatever, it's made of plastic. From the first iPhone to this one, there's always complaints about its aesthetics. Android phones? Whatever.

Think of a Toyota Corolla and a Lamborghini Aventador. Both will get scratches and rock chips when driven down any road. Which one would be more likely to receive aesthetics complaints? Lamborghini owners who care enough may get a clear coat "invisible" layer installed, just like what's being offered on iPhones.

Plastic scratches (and crack), glass cracks, and metal scruffs (and bends). Take your pick. Apple tried all three.

At the same price-point as most other "premium" Android phones, you're getting a great deal going with the iPhone.

Either I'm hearing good or I'm hearing bad things for this phone. I have the iPhone 4S right now so I feel like upgrading lol.

But lately I keep looking at the Galaxy SIII simply because, compared to the iPhone 5, it has more. I've played with it a bit and it's pretty smooth!

But I can't get android because it seems, and here's the weird part, I would be "cheating" on Apple. I've got the Macbook Pro, an iPad 3, and the iPhone 4S. I have an ecosystem that I've invested money into. And even if the iPhone 5 is bad as some people say it is, I can't switch to something else.

Not trying to start a flame war or anything but anyone have opinons on this? I'm probably not gonna upgrade now... but obviously in the near future. Cause in truth... all the iPhone 5 has over the 4S is speed to me :\ maybe I'm just overthinking.

You make good points and you should wait for the next iPhone. Wait on getting this one and see what other issues come about. Decide if the next one is adaptable to your liking. The GS3 is an awesome phone, but you will have the worst time integrating your eco system to Android. It can be done, but you’ll never feel confident in the switch because it’s a hassle. Not to say you’re lazy or anything like that, but you’ll feel the change and it’s tasking when you have to retry over and over for it to work right. It’s almost to the point of giving up and just settling. Upgrades are a nightmare and the manufacture UI is an insult to the Android features. I use both Android (Galaxy Nexus) and iOS, and I always tend to use iOS as my EDC.

I say you should try Android. You will end up appreciating your iPhone afterwards. Here's my story:

I've had all the iPhones up to the 3GS, but I got really fed up with the quality on AT&T and a buddy of mine offered to put me on his Verizon plan with a huge discount. So I figured why not? The Android looks cool, I don't have to jailbreak it, I can customize the crap out of it, and it has free turn-by-turn navigation. This was back when the Droid X was the hottest s#@t. And damn was it fast, customizable, and I had a signal wherever I went! Then it started, the first thing I did was buy another iPod because I just loved the way Apple handled the music player interface. My Android would lock up to the point where I had to pull the battery. It would spontaneously reboot on me, even in the middle of a phone call. Apps would crash, which sometimes would cause the whole phone to crash. It was a nightmare...

Then February 2011 rolled around and the iPhone was coming to Verizon! Needless to say, I jumped on the opportunity to go back to the iPhone and never looked back. I've since then played with my friends Androids and yes they are still pretty slick and they have become more stable, but I just love my iPhone. I can't even tell you the last time I actually rebooted my phone aside from the iOS 6 update. On my Android, it was a daily routine (Like a Windows PC).

I know off topoc butI have Macs at home and Windows 7 at work, but I honestly never (almost) reboot my computer at work.

I imagine at some point (maybe already, dunno I don't have any new android phones) that these little quirks that require you to reboot the phone will work themselves out. It has come a long way already. I think if android continues polishing their OS that apple will almost have to react because at some point things DO need an overhaul to keep up with the times and coincide with the way people tend to want to do things as time progresses.

That's a fair assessment. I work with Win7 PC's all day and for the most part the only time a PC is rebooted is for updates. I work in IT, so before anyone approaches me with an issue, they already know they should reboot first to see if the problem goes away, if not, then they talk to me. :)

As for Android, I do agree with you and that they are definitely getting better. Which is good so it will keep Apple on their heels.

Maybe my 4S was a dud... I don't know but it wasn't nearly as buttery smooth as this iPhone 5 even during the first 3 weeks. I had a lock up while trying to take pictures etc in the beginning. The bugs seemed to work itself out eventually but the iPhone 5 for me was a vast improvement over the 4S, it's a hell of a lot faster. My 4S seemed to choke on webpages a bit and this thing loads them all and fast... though I was having wifi issues last night. Seems this phone can't reach my master bedroom bathroom. An airport express should solve the problem though.
