It feels as though every new iPhone launch is the worst lol!
iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max had camera uncontrollably buzzing, shaking and rattling away and the GPS was “broken”, within 3 months all that was forgotten and people simply enjoyed their 14 Pro/Pro Max.

Most of the stuff people seemed to be complaining about on the 15 Pro range seems to be sorted out already in iOS 17.0.3.

my iPhone 15 pro just started overheating when charging it overnight, this is the second night in a row. Have had it since launch day and running 17.0.3 since it released. My nightly magsafe charging routine is out the window for now.

Great post. People have short memories on here.

This isn't even a bad launch. The first versions of iOS 17 paired with the A17 Pro chip had some overheating issues, but that's been (mostly) resolved. Other than that... minor issues overall.

Yup. I didn't even have the overheating issues. Also, with the complexity of software these days, things are bound to happen.

I’m on the latest update and my 15 Pro Max is getting crazy hot after taking like 3 pics. Go figure. And the battery dropped 3% in like 5 minutes. Ugh.

The 12 was far worse, IMO. The 12 screen had a PWM problem that was really bad. If you were effected, I'm pretty sure that the 12 was just a phone you couldn't use. AFAIK, the hardware was never fixed, so there's a greater than normal percentage of people who just can't use the 12 series. On top of that, the 12 series was delayed, so you couldn't even get a phone... which I'm sure gave Apple more time to iron out any bugs.
My 12 Pro has been great, no problems. Use it ever day since it was released.

Eliminate YouTubers and this would have been a pleasant and boring incremental upgrade.

Seriously, these guys are daily content con artists.
“Long Term Review” = Buying 8 phones to film for a day before returning them all
“Upcoming New Feature” = Regurgitating unfounded rumor that never materializes
“Fastest phone yet” = Obnoxious thumbnail of them oerreacting to Geekbench scores
“Whats in my bag” = Two personal choices and 7 sponsored items

And these are the guys people still trust for proving “widespread problems”? Theyre not journalists, they’re grifters that are only popular in the algorithm because YouTube won’t allow users to block channels. You watch for the beauty shots of shiny products but not to find actual information.

You may be on to something here.

The fact that this was - let’s face it - a mundane launch of sorts of made it easier to just focus on every little issue instead of talking about some fantastic feature that would have taken interest over the problems that you always have each launch.

Right now everyone is talking about the Pixel 8 and how you can literally change anything in a photo - like move objects around to another part of the photo and such. With this kind of interest the usual Pixel issues are lost behind the hype. Last year the totally unexpected Dynamic Island really mitigated things like the camera shake and constant bugs at launch, but you don’t have that “wow” factor this year.

And I’ll say it. Titanium was a cool idea but the boring colors really muted the “wow” factor titanium could have had - in my honest opinion.

There was no "iPhone 9", of course. lol

Now that the multitude of posts you made about hardware problems turned out to be bogus, you’ve moved the goalposts to say clickbaiters and trolls played up issues because the new iPhone is boring.

There’s nothing honest about that.

Saying “everyone is talking about the Pixel 8” makes your motives hilariously obvious. Based on previous launches, Apple has already sold more iPhone 15 series phones than Google has sold Pixels in the past two years.

Ok: “Everyone in the media industry is talking…”.

I find it funny you think I have some nefarious motive here. Apart from a Pinephone I have bought nothing but iPhones since 2014. As such any praise or criticism is directed to the phones I have or plan to have. Nothing wrong with that.

I’ll add one general observation here.

Every year you do get newbies who have one or a couple of posts criticizing Apple or the iPhone and then they disappear till next year. Probably because they are praising or criticizing other Android phones as they come out. Folks who stick around here are the real deal and as such their criticisms or praise must be looked at as genuine observations that contribute to the fabric of community sentiment here.

When you sign up, I believe you are warned that you may have observations in posts they you do not agree with. This is fine and an important part of free speech which I value. Conversations that just stick to non-personal statements can go on forever and can be quite interesting and ultimately quite illuminating to all in the end. Constraining the opinions and observations only lessens the experience ultimately for all, the topics are abandoned and/or closed before an issue can be properly discussed to the end. Anyway, that is how I feel about all of that.

Rant over…

A motive doesn’t have to be nefarious. A motive could simply be to make spurious, contrarian posts to generate reaction.

Exactly. You could visibly see the giddiness in these youtubers and social media attention seekers when the heat issues first got reported. They had no content beyond debating which shade of gray is best and pretending to lose their mind over “OMG it’s so light!” (Before slapping it in a heavy sponsored case). So now they had a click worthy story and could finally put that Amazon Basics $11.99 temperature gun to use.

But in the real world it was a day1 issue that quickly got resolved. It’s a shame because this is a solid device with just the right amount of “S” series updates. But when we look back then heat-gate videos and threads like this will be what people remember.

This is true and as long as it’s still a part of the conversation it’s totally permissible. A dry conversation is also no fun unless it’s a technical article up for peer review. Try reading those and you will see what I mean!

I remember my iPhone 4 as a marvel of industrial design with the best screen in the world! I had to be reminded of antenna gate. In fact I never mentioned it - now that I think back!

I have, in recent and not so recent memory, seen someone get on MacRumors each year and say that that year’s iPhone launch was the worst product launch in recent memory, or ever.

Maybe this is the worst product launch in iPhone history - somehow, almost a month later, I still do not have the new iPhone.

Typically, I have always secured one on launch day or within a week later.

Apple should get better with stock; so yeah, maybe.

I haven't been following the chatter but never had a single issue, heard about the overheating issue but it never impacted me before the update. To me this was a typical launch. 🤷‍♂️

Nothing has beaten the iPhone 4 disaster yet.

There was no software fix. And the CEO deflected by saying the phones were being held wrong.

Forcing Apple to give out free bumpers to mitigate a hardware design flaw from factory.

iPhone 15 Pro 'issues' are nothing compared to that

You have to admit though. Steve's response was nothing short of hilarious. I would pay to see what his reaction was when he wrote that email.
