I love my X but it does lag more and more lately and I’d like more than 64gb storage.

I might upgrade to the XI as well but just have the itch to upgrade. Curious how much of an upgrade that the Max feels like over the X.

I did it in December, and do not regret it. I got on the iPhone upgrade program with this purchase. All payments go toward the price of the phone, so if you want to keep it for two years it’s yours. You can upgrade and turn it in anytime after you make 12 payments, even if the first year is not up, so I will probably do that in September.
The XS max feels great compared to the X, IMO. Good luck!

That’s awesome. I first ignored the XS in September because my X still felt fresh but I’ve noticed slow downs lately and I love bigger phones. Plus the battery on the X is less than desired.

If you were upgrading from your X to the 5.8 XS, I probably wouldn’t recommend it. But being that you’re considering the Max, the larger display alone makes a significant difference in viewing content and of course, you have the larger battery, as you mentioned, you’re not really impressed with the X battery life as it is. I say upgrade and enjoy.

I agree, I love the feel of the max. My wife was still using an iPhone 6, so she has my old X and it’s a huge upgrade for her.

I also have an X and have that itch to upgrade. I’ve been in the Apple Store several times since the launch of the XS Max and XR and have played around with both of them. I just recently got a new job and make money so the upgrade itch is getting harder to ignore. At first I said if the XI Max don’t look like the 2018 version and cost more, I wasn’t going to upgrade, but at this point I’ll upgrade this year no matter what.

I even bought a new case to keep from upgrading, but it’s not working.

Sorry, but i have to ask, what lags on your X? I still use mine and it flies on iOS12... it's one of the main reasons i've not considered upgrading.

I’d wait it out and get the 11. That upgrade itch is hard to scratch.

This.

Going from X to Xs is a waste.
Going from the X to the Max makes sense.

I love my max and to say don’t upgrade is somewhat hypocritical.

But honestly, with it being almost February I would try to avoid the itch and wait for the new phone

It's funny being the one that asked the question because I'd normally say the same and tell someone to wait, but the good thing is that money isn't really an issue because the way my carrier works it out, I'll be able to trade the XS Max in in October and pay a small fee to upgrade.

I upgraded because I found a great deal. someone was selling a month old Max in amazing condition along with a series 4 stainless steel.... Long story short I paid a difference of $425 for a 256gb Max and a series 4 stainless steel... after selling my X and series 2.

In all honesty had it not been for that deal I would have held on to my X until the XI comes out. The only difference I really feel is the screen size, other than that the noticeable differences are very small since the X is a great phone.... So if the bigger screen means that much to you then go for it, but otherwise just fight the itch..... iOS 13 is a few months away, that will keep you occupied and make your phone feel new in the meantime.

I was on the upgrade program but decided not to exchange my X and just paid it off instead
At this point, I'm not sure when I will upgrade again
I will likely wait until a new phone offers me something compelling that I can't do just as well with the X
Or until the X dies
Whichever comes first

This is exactly what I was going to say. I'm on the upgrade program and am always going to upgrade no matter what but the jump from X to XS (not max) isn't a huge change.

You just paid it off, keep it. If your X is laggy, do a factory reset. If you are not using more than 50 gb, then you probably don't need more. I would just wait for the next iPhone for now.

For me the stand out features are the screen, speakers and camera. The screen is obvious and for me I always found the X too small so I was always going to upgrade because I like big phones. However I was very pleased with the camera and speaker upgrades. They are significantly better.

That’s what really caught my eye when diving in further. Sounds like the Smart HDR is super impressive!

I have a Xs Max 256 space grey mint condition if interested.

I'm also considering switching to the XS Max, but not sure if I will be able to love with the size (although I've used mostly the Plus models from the 6 onward). I am very tempted by that screen though, it is amazing, I just wish the apps made better use of it.

Where do you notice the lags on the X BTW?
