He was very hit or miss with me as far as his allegedly "rude" comments goes when it comes to weather or not I agreed with it. I think people should let the dead people rest. People generally do want the device first. I realize SJ had to put up with stuff but that's goes along with the territory of being CEO of a HUGE company like Apple.

You are missing the whole point.... people are getting their panties in a bunch over seriously childish things, bitching, crying and moaning over something that in 2-3 months EVERYONE will have and you will be as insignificant as everyone else wearing it... Novelty wears of but your personality and attitude does not. I find it ridiculous how people are loosing it with that "me first me first" mentality.

I love Apple and the whole eco system, and always have since I got my first Mac when I was a kid and my father asked me which computer I wanted so I would stop touching his computer LOL... I told him I wanted a Macintosh which turned out to be my first computer at 8 years old.. a Macintosh SE... which caused him to raise an eyebrow and ask why.. LOL nevertheless he still bought it for me.. from that day I have never owned a non-Apple computer so I am by all means loyal to a great product and eco-system, what I am not is a fanatic or a childish kid throwing a fit over seriously insignificant things..

As for your "Let people rest" comment how about you give the whole topic a rest and stop posting EVERYWHERE about your need to have and to hold something before everyone else.. and your need for a business to change their procedures and disrupt their processes just to accommodate your needs and by doing so disregarding the needs of a multitude of other customers..

I agree with the OP. I just wish in-store pickup was an OPTION. I like the personal experience of going into my local Apple Store on launch day to pick up a device.

They cannot offer in-store pickup because they are not selling the watch in store until May.

How many pissed off people do you think they'd have if they saw a line of people picking up watches they cannot buy in store yet and are being told to order online?

Shipping direct makes it look fair to all consumers. It's just simpler.

Before the watch came out "STEVE would done X" after the watch goes for preorder "STEVE would've done X". Tim Cook sits on the crapper "STEVE would've done X". You people need to stop living in the past and get a life.

Every time someone does or says anything about Apple people like you come out with some BS about what they think a dead person would do. No one cares what a dead person would do. Just by virtue of the fact that they are dead means they weren't meant to do whatever it is you are talking about anyway.

We don't know what that man would or wouldn't do. Stop assuming things. Not only is it offensive to keep harping on dead people but that the concern people have is legitimate. Do you really think someone who is posting on MR needs help setting up an Apple Watch? Lets be real here. I mean c'mon. Secondly let dead people rest. If Apple did handle the watch the same as other releases people would've complaining in the other direction. It happens with every release.

I don't know... I just feel weird about having a $10K device coming VIA UPS....but I order my stuff online anyway to ship to my door step. Seems like at least people willing to spend a grand or more should get an in store appointment at least.

again, grow up.. get a life..

OH and look for help..

this. I rather pick it up in store so i'm not home waiting all day...

I'm going to see if I can pick it up at UPS/Fedex that day once it ships..:(

Typically once you have been charged and product is in "Shipped" status you will see the option on your order to pre-sign for the delivery.

It's amusing that half of these people do not know how to change delivery address to their workplace... It will solve most of your problems.

But back to the topic. Apple is cautious about this launch for several reasons. It's a new product under Tim Cook with a very high expectation for whatever reasons and it's also a new category (fashion wear) which Apple never done before. First assumption was that a normal launch like iPhone and Mac will not work for Watch. While this might be true, it also not right to do it fashion way. No matter how you see it, Sport and SS watch are mass production. Second, Apple needs to gauge the demand in order not to over produce, but although expected, they don't foresee that 2 millions ++ orders in a week. It may be more convenience and solve a few problem for some, but cause more trouble and create new issues for others. So no, it's neither a bad nor a good decision, in my opinion.

Request that UPS hold for pickup at the local depot when you get the tracking info. No additional cost, and you can pick it up on the day it was supposed to be delivered if you call in advance. That's how I got my iPhone 6 at 9am on launch day.

My UPS facility only allows pickups from 2pm-6pm Mon-Fri, closed weekends. In the end I might just go with this option because I have errands to run other things to do, I can just head over at 2pm, in the end it will be less of a hassle than waiting at home.

Apple doesn't have the resource to spoon-feed every one of you on how to use this device. If you are so inclined, they can help you, but not every single buyers out there on day 1.

Here's your requested help if you really insist.

I think the watch has been handled brilliantly by Angela TBQH... I've stated as much. This was the one thing I wasn't so sure about. I guess by "LEAKING" people who would've lined up will now know.

The way the scalping works is if they see people line up at the Apple Store they too will get in line even if they have no idea what the product is. Then they will buy the new product whatever it is and try to sell it for a markup. If they can't sell it for a markup they will drop it off back at the Apple Store.

This whole issue isn't about "being too dumb to set up at home" as your post implies.

Part of it is business and marketing (which i'm implying you don't have much knowledge). Launch day for apple stores will look dead and empty. Sure waiting in long lines isnt the best experience, but why cant we set up a time to pick up our watch and set it up?

As an investor what would you rather see on launch day: an apple store filled with employees helping customers set up their watches or an empty store with not much going on?

Jay, totally agree with you. Big marketing failure for such an important launch. Angela is getting paid for it-so she´s responsible

I think the fact that people went online and purchased more in a day than all of the android watches combined in the last year is a marketing success. Seeing UPS struggle to get everyone's order out on time is a success. Plus Angela already let everyone know there would be no lines. Even my low tech friends watch MR home page for new Apple news.

What kind of investor watches the people actually working at the store as if it means something to the bottom line? Talk about micro management. LMAO!!!! You can always sell your shares to me if seeing busy stores at launch means something to you.

It's not about micromanaging... It's the image of Apple stores on this big day. there are people and companies (like Samsung) that will take advantage of the sight of an empty store on this launch day. People will try to convince viewers that empty stores means little or no interest in this product. Why drive sales away? There is obviously a lot of people buying this thing, so why not show it off in our retail stores?

I'd rather see media posting pictures of smiling customers coming in picking up their watches instead of an empty store. Or worse yet, angry customers showing up and turned away because they were confused, thinking a product would actually be fore sale on April 24.

:D I'm sorry but this made me laugh. :D

I just wanted to say "You're such a dumb-ass. Go RTFM." but maybe someone still won't get it. They just want to be babysit through the whole process.

But then I had to tell myself it's those stupidity that's helpful in business, from a consumer-demand standpoint.

I think we live in a digital world. Don't underestimate the power of social media. People will being flooding blogs, facebook, instagram, and everything in between with reviews and pics of their new watch. We are the cheapest, most effective advertising campaign they have.

I think this launch is circumstantial since its a new fashionable device. People are looking too far into it

I hate that Apple won't have watches in stores on "Launch Day". And worse, they don't even allow us to pick up "Pre-orders" in store! All these people will get a new device at home, something no one has experience using, without any Apple support, and are expected to understand how to set up and use the watch out of the box?

But its okay, if I have trouble I can drive to the apple store and sign up for a workshop. ********...

Or apple could've allowed instore purchases or in-store pick up so apple employees can assist everyone with set-up and iphone pairing.

I thought Angela was hired to IMPROVE the customer experience, not eliminate it? Because I feel like that's exactly what this online BS is doing. Pretty much saying "If you like our new Apple watch, but it online and figure out the set up alone when it comes in the mail."

And I realize the set up for this could be very simple and easy to do, but Apple has positioned this product as their "Most Personal" device ever. But this online stuff isn't the same customer experience we come to expect from Apple.

My $0.02...

If you don't mind going in to the store the buy the watch or pick up a pre-order, why would you be upset with going to the apple store for help with setting it up?

The scalping problems were out of control for the iP6 - I'm greatful Apple made the change. Well done Angela.

It would have been worse with the Watch I think because supply is so constrained. For the first iPad, there were still lines of dozens of scalpers continually lined up outside Apple's 5th Avenue store over a month after launch, each presumably with enough cash on hand to buy two as soon as the store restocked. This is going to make it much harder for scalpers to buy large amounts.
Also as mentioned above, the personal attention to set up is going to be new for this device. I suspect that Apple could not handle the crush of people at launch for this device. Customers wanting to swap bands or taking out links in the bracelet. it would have been just way too busy on launch day.

A typical "grandma" type of person isn't going to rush out on launch day and buy an Apple Watch. It might take them a generation or two to decide they might want one, like that of the iPhone. They lived long enough without one, they can live another year or two without it.

Could you possibly be a little more patronising ? Don't hold back now.

I think Apple is okay without the pictures of the watch being a success. They really can't satisfy demand anyway, so who cares if there are some negative articles? It won't sell the amount of watches they sell. And in a few months everyone will know someone who is either wearing the watch and loving it, or is disappointed and discarded it.

The watch is going to have to succeed or fail on its merits and not on advertising and the media.

I don't know you need someone to guide you through setting up and using the watch. Not only are there guided tours on the website, but there is a dedicated app on your phone that is going to step your through the basics. That should take care of about 80% of people right there. The other 20% can sign up for workshops if they need them.

I agree that there aspects of the launch that have a lot to be desired, but this isn't one of them. And besides, this isn't really something that the retail director would be in charge of. This is more of a technical support issue.

She'll never read this thread, because she doesn't even know this site exists.

that was the first mistake IMO was not having a base option a white option and a black option for the watch. for each of the different types of Apple Watches. I think it is logistically possible if Apple had done that. It's no different than the whole case situation or headphones situation. You bundle the headphones with the watch but you can different headphones with them. Apple could've easily done the same thing here. Frankly, I think it was a HUGE mistake not to.

I disagree & here's why.

Considering the price of their bands, this idea could turn people off an apple watch purchase all together. For example, lets say you specifically want the Milanese loop and dislike everything else. Now you have to buy the Apple watch with a black sport band you're never going to wear. That could have been $49 USD put towards the Milanese you actually want. That same Milanese you love looks like a "girls strap" according to your father in law. He ordered the leather loop that reminds you of a miniaturized personal flotation device. See what I'm getting at?

This is not just a computer. What we choose to wear varies so much more than the electronics we use. It's so much more subjective and personal. That's what you and many need to understand about this type of product.

I applaud Apple for choosing this rout. Allowing us to pick the strap that comes with the watch was a HUGE step in the right direction.

Chibatastic

This is a fair point IMO. People behave differently with something they wear VS a computer they don't wear. It's a fair point. There is no way to just sell a watch face separately. That's just asking for it if the band runs out or people end up not liking the bands that are left over.
