I say they use an i7 with 8GB DDR3 and a 27" screen.

While we're talking nonsense, it should come with a pony. And it should have 4Gb of ram, after all my laptop has more these days. And 500Gb of storage. Oh and it should be smaller, and lighter and cost less. And it should run flash video at 1080p resolution. And have a 30 hour battery life while doing so.

Nice, this thread lacked sarcasm...

So, I guess they should keep the specs exactly the same, in fact, they should probably lower the specs, just for you.

I'm always wonder about people like you, you obviously don't like technology and don't want any advancement and progress, so why do you even have an iPhone? Why not get some old Nokia?

What is your point? You don't want the iPhone to get better?

The iPhone 4 is hamstrung by its lack of RAM. I still get Safari reloading tabs, Apps crashing etc. Also, it needs an A5 stat.

Cause I really don't like when applications close because of the lack of RAM.

When you launch some apps it causes the others to close , and it's annoying, especially with Skype which disconnects when you load other apps.

As "smart" as iOS' multitasking is, it still uses and depends on memory and I really hope the next iPhone has 1GB RAM.

Dual core A5
1GB RAM
8MP Camera
2MP Front camera
64GB model

And you've got a winner Apple.

For those specs, don't forget a slightly better battery life! :D

Nonsense? He's only looking for 1gb of RAM, hardly the most exotic request thats been called for.

Seems reasonable

1gb RAM seems reasonable for the next iPhone.

I myself find 512mb quite enough. But its always better to have more ;)

I too would like more RAM. It gets old having tabs restore themselves or applications have to reload because they were closed due to a lack of ram.

i think apple's going to opt for 768mb. since iOS is more polished than android, i think 768mb would be enough.

wish it will be 1GB too.

Most likely it's going to be 1GB of RAM. Why? Because even though Apple brought the chipmaker Intrinsity....they still rely on Samsung's engineering.

The "A4/A5" processors are very similiar to Samsung's offerings in their top phones. If the Galaxy S2 has 1GB of RAM....expect to see Apple have 1GB of RAM in their iphone 5th generation.

Android OS's need 512MB of RAM to function. iOS needs 256MB of RAM to function properly.

It's like Windows vs. Macs. These days Windows 7 needs at least 3GB of RAM while Mac OSX needs 2GB of RAM.

I feel like iOS 4 is bloated and slow. I would prefer 1GB RAM to help, but I also wish Apple focused on making the OS more streamlined and efficient. I rememver how smooth iOS was and it seems to have gotten worse through the years even though the tech specs have improved.

There are way too many sloppy animations, pauses, etc on my old black iPhone 4 (and my new white iphone 4 that I recently purchased). Also, the phone slows down way too much when I am streaming music from Sirius XM or other radio apps.

The slowdowns should go away when the phone goes multicore. If you have a system monitoring app and switch to it real fast when things seem to slow down you would notice your CPU is pegged (or very close to it) which doesn't help with responsiveness.

My point is that everyone that, whatever the phone needs to run iOS 5 is best determined by the people who make it. Not by a bunch of people who don't know **** about integrating hardware and software.

It's going to run better with a gig of RAM, trust me.

Well everyone keeps screaming at Apple to implement this and that feature. iOS 1.0 was around 95MB. iOS 5 is 766MB.

Are the graphics in iOS vector graphics? It would seem there was a bump in size when going from iPhones 3GS to iPhone 4.

I don't understand how Android firmwares are so small yet iOS firmwares are not.

i agree i def want 1gb ram at least 750mb

my most important feature though is a 64gb option!!!!!!!!!:D

bigger screen would be nice but not counting on it.

While I understand why people think this "we want 1GB of RAM on a phone", I also understand that 99% of the public does not truly comprehend what they're saying.

People are looking at this as if its a PC/Mac. With a mobile platform and different OS, you don't want to throw more memory at it to fix a slow down issue.
Its not apple and oranges. On a PC running a desktop OS, adding more memory can speed it up. A faster CPU can as well. Thats the logic.

People are incorrectly using this same theory with mobile phones. While more memory can increase performance in certain areas, throwing more memory at it could also lead to negative effects. On a mobile phone, the processor, memory, and mainly the OS must work cohesively for the best performance. Merely throwing more hardware at it is not the best solution.

Good example. If you have 2GB of memory and a 4Ghz CPU, but then you're running IBM OS/2 for an OS. Its not the best solution.
The OS must make the best use of the hardware available for a better platform.

Some very realistic predictions there.

All other things being equal 8 MP won't provide any improvement on the sensor size these phones are using and I would actually prefer 5 MP for various reasons.

Well this thread certainly turned into a circus. While I can understand people having more realistic aspirations for the next phone (as this is Apple, a company that is known for hardware with optimized performance and giving people what they need over pure specs), I was just saying 4Gs time is coming, and if nothing else Apple does not want to be left behind by it's competitors. Android phones with the quad core Tegra 3 are coming out by the year's end, and Samsung is on track to release 2.0 GHz dual-core phones in the beginning of 2012.

If Apple sticks to it's yearly release schedule, the turgid pace Android has been evolving at will eventually surpass Apple's evolutionary pace. It'll be interesting to see how Apple handles it, and if they'll settle on being top dog at first and then only appealing to a smaller market later in the future while Android takes a huge lead in the industry the same way Windows overtook Mac OS in the computer industry back in the 90s.

Apple doesn't care if competitors put a 12-core processor with 32GB o RAM in their phone. They don't do 'Keeping up with the Joneses'...never have.

No clue. Probably.

If Apple sticks to it's yearly release schedule, the turgid pace Android has been evolving at ....

Wow. Tegra 3, Exynos etc are silicone chips. They are not "android".

Android is an operating system. Has nothing to do with dual core, quad core.

I have used Froyo and GB on both old and new devices (just sold SGS2 last week). GB did not feel like a huge improvement over Froyo like it was to Eclair. Not even close. Just a few cosmetic changes. Infact Froyo is already running stable and good on last gen hardware. While slapping GB on these new chips does nothing but push it faster, with minimal optimization.

What evolution you are referring to will come hopefully in icecream. If specs are evolution than I am happy for Apple to be not going so fast. If you got software that can only go so far as to utilize full potential, why waste energy and time on specs?

Also android is not getting 90% share unless WP7 really fails. It maybe slow to speed but the OS is very very nice and MS is throwing all they can on it. Unless you use it you have no idea how it can be a serious contender to both in the future with mango and beyond.

The iPhone 5 will probably have a slighter larger screen at "retina" resolution, 768MB of RAM, dual-core A5 and better cameras. But the important feature of new iPhone/iPad/iPod touch hardware is not the hardware but the OS. Android gained market share more because of the evolving OS rather than dual-core CPUs, faster GPUs and bigger screen sizes. Any < 2.0 version of Android really lacked in many areas. The competition is now software and not so much hardware. While keeping the same hardware will simply not happen, I'd focus more on the OS and applications.

Apple intentionally cripples hardware so people upgrade to the new one every single time. Examples - iPad 1 had 256MB RAM, iPod Touch has 256MB RAM, iPod Touch and iPad have crap cameras. So, iPhone 5 will probably have 768MB RAM...

anyone know what to make of the iphone 5 september 7 rumor date????? I'm switching to apple within the next 3 weeks.... new phone, new computer, and hopefully an ipad, but jst in my own experience with having a droid X and an ipod touch, the ipod touch beats the droid x as it related to smoothness, consistency in running apps etc... I find my self getting angry with the droid x quite frequently. So i really am eager to see what apple does wit the iphone 5, but as far as upgrades, its already a good product, i think one of the reasons why we are asking for other things is simply because we are comparing the phone to other tech specs, even though the operating system is supreme in my opinion.

I rarely have a RAM problem, so I couldn’t care less about more RAM. Perhaps this is a benefit of being jailbroken, since I know my RAM use at all times, and I can easily clear the memory with a swipe of the finger.

Better battery or dual core is what is needed. Bigger screen would be nice too.
