I've never once wanted to use MMS. On this phone or any other. I do now send pictures to people since the iphone actually has a usable camera (compared any other picture phone I've owned), but I e-mail them since I don't know if the other person has MMS either.

I don't think the API restricts GPS turn-by-turn; in fact, last I heard, Garmin was going to write a turn-by-turn GPS app for the iPhone.

Opening up the phone completely just isn't possible for Apple. I know it would work well for you personally, but it wouldn't work well for most people. It's paternalism, but it's needed for most users.

Chill out, let Jobs get better. He seems to know what he's doing, despite your certainty that you could do his job better.

I've never "got" MMS ... the limits imposed on pictures etc are terrible so the end result looks like crap anyway ...

I think the lack of MMS was a design choice .... trying to encourage email ... more and more people are using data-based smartphones or media phones that are more than capable of sending/receiving email and since email in the cloud is now more or less ubiquitous then it makes less and less sense to use an archaic technology like MMS

I can receive a nice full-res JPG from someone which is pushed to my phone via MobileMe or i can get a heavily compressed and artifact filled pic via MMS ... which one to choose?

Ya... if I were Steve Jobs I would not want the new stories to end with "And we will always remember him as the guy who kept MMS off the iPhone."

If I had the power, I would consider it an honor be known as the guy who won the fight to kill MMS. It's just a scam by the phone companies to charge you $.25 to email a photo! Even if you already pay for a data plan. Why is this something people demand!?

Have you no freaking shame OP

If you understood how poor the prognosis is for pancreatic cancer is...

you should really apologize for even thinking this is a funny matter

It's called Karma....

( sorry for all the ellipses, I would probably get banned for I chose to omit)

So I cant state that hopefully Apple reduces the restrictions on their iphone simply because Steve Jobs might have cancer again? Nothing has been proven about ANYTHING in regards to his health, so stop speculating for the dramatic effect. I clearly wish him good health, as is everyone. Wanting new ideas for a phone happened before this health problem, and now all the sudden we cant talk about it because hes sick? Give me a break.

Take your ideology elsewhere, I clearly meant no harm to him. I am however allowed to express my hopes for someone to relieve these restrictions.

OMG JOBS IS SICK! NO ONE TALK BADLY ABOUT APPLE OR HIS DECISIONS! ITS BAD KARMA!!!

I have this sick ability to discern between health problems and how you performed your job. No one is a better CEO than he is, however, he needs to start thinking about what the customer wants, not what he wants and THINKS we want.

Who's a better seller? You or Apple? It looks like you even bought the phone without it being able to send MMS..Do your job as a customer and go complain on customeraffairs.com or apple's site, it would have a better effect than you talking about it here. If MMS is coming before copy/paste or some other more useful stuff I'm selling it...no,I'm just kidding but I will be pissed...a bit.

If someone has a battery issue with a 3rd party app they installed, guess what.. ITS THEIR FAULT! NOT YOURS!

people don't understand that not everyone understands how their iPhone works
the average person will not be able to understand how to manage their phone to have even decent battery life
they'll install absolutely everything they can find and the apple will get hit with complaints, people at the genius bar, and, the way people are in this country, even lawsuits

Why does everybody keep mentioning his cancer returning? He clearly said it was a hormone imbalance/issue, and just yesterday or today said it was a food absorbtion problem. There's no reason to believe otherwise...unless you think he's just trying to deceive his shareholders in the interest of Apple's stock. If that's the case, that just wrong on so many levels.

No one is a better CEO than he is, however, he needs to start thinking about what the customer wants, not what he wants and THINKS we want.

Once, Henry Ford said, "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse"

The same thing would've happened with the iPhone. If he had asked you, or most of us, the iPhone would be a normal stupid cellphone. And it's not. I believe Steve knows what's better for that cellphone, than you do sir

he needs to start thinking about what the customer wants, not what he wants and THINKS we want.

+1 to the person with the Henry Ford quote.

Also, there's an example from the Bible: The people of Israel called for a king, so God gave them the kind of king they wanted–Saul.

He became insane and went on a psychopathic rampage after a 20-year-old boy.

After Saul committed suicide, the boy, David, ascended to the throne and brought unification to the land and destroyed Israel's enemies. No one would have wanted David if they had been able to choose between him and Saul, but, as it turns out, he was better for everyone.

Steve doesn't give us what we want in a computer, he gives us what we should have.

Thus things like the Sudden Motion Sensor and the MagSafe cord.

They cant please everybody unfortunately, I'm sure they do alot of research before deciding what goes into their products, of the millions of people that own an iphone I'm sure the majority dont really need or require what tech geeks and bloggers have been crying about.

the only way to really satisfy your needs is for apple to make a customized iphone for each individual who wants one, adding or removing anything the person wants.

Hey don't go off on tech geeks, I'm a tech geek and couldn't give a damn about MMS, as a tech geek I always have email as do my geek friends. Nor a better camera either.

No one is a better CEO than he is, however, he needs to start thinking about what the customer wants, not what he wants and THINKS we want.

Here's an idea maybe the customers should start thinking about what they want and buy the appropriate device, instead of whining about features that a phone doesn't have, has never promised to have and may never have.

I don't think we will see any huge changes. Its not like jobs is completely out of the picture.

what do you think the pancreas is responsible for

its clear that his cancer is not in remission, even after they removed the previous tumor

MMS
AT&T claims (via chat I had the other day) that Apple has to make the MMS software so AT&T can allow the traffic.

Not exactly true. What AT&T have told me is that they are not in the software development business, so they will not be developing the app. Therefore, all that needs to happen is a 3rd party developer needs to develop the MMS app - just like O2, T-Mobile, and Vodaphone have done. But, AT&T is not going to develop it and neither is Apple. Someone else has to step up to the plate and put out an app. Since other MMS app work-arounds have been approved lately, I see no problem with getting this through the approval process.

How often did you use MMS before you got the iPhone? I never did and everyone that would send me a picture sends them to my e-mail address now without complaint.

I can receive a nice full-res JPG from someone which is pushed to my phone via MobileMe or i can get a heavily compressed and artifact filled pic via MMS ... which one to choose?

The iPhone does not shrink emailed photos. I was just able to zoom in quite far on a large image I was emailed.

I have a quick question that I want you guys to answer if possible; all photos that are e-mailed to me are blurry. Is there something wrong with my iPhone or is there something else I am doing wrong? How do I fix this?

The SDK does in fact restrict TbT GPS (so I've been told by the developers of G-Map). And btw, TomTom already has a full-fledged GPS iPhone app developed...as of the end of last summer. Any idea where it is?

sitting in apples crappy approvement process

Although that might be true, if you are a physician/surgeon, then you will also realize that there are many other things besides cancer that can be pancreatic-related and causing his problems.

Not talking about receiving. When the iPhone SENDS a photo, it cuts down the resolution to save time.

Again, incorrect. I have a number of emails that contain multiple attachments.

Again, talking about SENDING.

I believe that's a bug recently introduced by Apple. Next version should hopefully fix it.

I've come to the point of being very use to having no MMS... but having the G1 by my side here and putting my sim in that thing and sending and receiving MMS messages just feels so golden. Not to mention the killer-sweet autofocus camera and sd card slot.

I would love to see the ability to have images/sounds in text message conversations and maybe even avatars like some have done tweaks with on the G1 would be nice to see.

A camera phone without MMS is kind of like a luxary sedan without ABS/traction control.
