Ok, if you liked the A01048, then I think you'll enjoy a NiZ Plum. I only sort of liked the A1048. I liked how silky it felt at first, but it got stiff and scratchy once I put some miles on it. Electrocapcitives aren't prone to wearing down like that. They retain that silky smooth stroke even after a lot of use.
I went and checked Gateron Silver Pro switches, those drop shipping sites aren't shy when it comes to pricing.

As for the NiZ Plum, the model is sadly out of stock and the mention of "military grade" hardware sent a shiver down my spine ;).

Will inquire again if I don't find my old apple keyboard.

And thank you for your time.

BTW, if you ever get a Plum, they advertise the weight of the switches with and without an extra add-in spring. The external spring that you can easily add yourself gives it 10g more weight, but they also mess up the feel of the switches.

This is a typing demo of NiZ Plums. The sound is close, but they don't really sound this sharp in pitch. They mostly make a thocky sound and they're actually fairly quiet if you don't hit the keys too hard.

Did you get the Gateron Silver Pros? If you did, you'll have to report back on what you think. I've never tried those before.

Didn't pull the trigger yet, will definitely keep you updated if I do.

Well, before you do, have you seen this?

The pre-owned ones do have a really funny color, the japanese-layout is gorgeous.

The seller seems to have an outstanding inventory.

What a shame that my preferred layout (swiss) is so rare.

Called my mother, the keyboard is still there and seems to be working.

Will be picking it up on the weekend.

BTW, something to consider in your hunt for a better typing experience is to upgrade the keycaps if you're using a set of cheap stock keycaps that came with the keyboard. I seem to remember that A1048's coming with much sturdier keycaps than was typical of most keyboards of that vintage and it might be the keycap feel that you remember so fondly.

A nice set of thick PBT keycaps in OEM profile might do a lot for an MX Cherry board that needs some improvement.

I wholeheartedly agree with this observation, in a perfect world I'd find a sturdy chassis with solid keycaps and most importantly an integrated bluetooth switcher with some kind of programmable dongle to swap control between both my computers.

That listing is for a brand new one... not Japanese layout though.
My guess is that the listing that you wanted to show me does not exist anymore.

The link that you sent (if I understand ebay's site properly) is the umbrella for this product reference.

Therefore the page would not be static. It is possible that as I am seaching from europe we could be show different options (shipping restrictions etc..).

my page defaulted to the second one, as yours might have been the first

it is a very nice offer indeed

I have to pay for my geographical impairment (not in the mood for using a reshipping service)

Oh that's weird. That first one was the one that I wanted to show you. The seller's listing says they have 260 units! I almost ordered one for myself, but then I remembered that I already have too many keyboards. 😝

You'll have to let me know what you think of these vs. what you remember. I don't recall being in love with these, but I do remember that I thought they were gorgeous (as long as you could keep them clean).

Will do, but I have a feeling that the rose tinted glasses will fade pretty fast.

I have an A1048 that came with an igloo iMac. It is still being used every day, 2 iMacs later. The only thing "wrong" with it is that some of the heavily used keys feel slightly mushy. Amazing...too bad Apple quality has deteriorated. And too bad the igloo iMac speakers don't work with any other hardware.

Oh NO! To me, that’s sort of like hoping Bleeding as a medical treatment would come back.

Funny you should say that because most people are shocked when they learn that medicinal leeches are not only still a thing, but have been gaining as a perfectly good low-tech treatment.

woah!

Hey JahBoolean, did you ever get that A1048? Disappointed or a happy reunion?
The rose tinted glasses have faded, that O ring problem you raised presented itself. Nevertheless with my campus reopening I find myself using my docking station less and less.

Back to ye ole Butterfly keyboard. Curious to see if :apple: will iterate on the keyboard for the Mx Macbooks
