Why didn't apple make a punch hole instead ?
Does apple know that there is phones that have punch hole camera which has performance 10x better then in MBP.
The notch is brand recognition. Just like the phone, you instantly know its an Apple product.

There is for people who often use full screen zoom.
You still do not understand how the notch will be displayed. It's WITHIN THE TOOLBAR of any software or app!!! It's not within the screen you're using. It's amazing how you and all the 1% of people complaining do not understand this. At full screen the screen is BELOW the notch. What lives in the area of the notch is the toolbar and operating system icons to the right.

People just don't want to learn.

They issued an update to support the notch and explained the behavior. Can't remember if it was also mentioned during the event, however:

The screen bellow the toolbar is the usual screen size. The toolbar is moved up. You actually get MORE screenspace than before this way.
I mentioned it in another thread but wondered whether it would have been less jarring to make the menu bar black. I don't know if that would look too dank or odd but since Apple will offer a menu bar in full screen option with the forthcoming Monterey, the menu bar will be black there. So in that case, why not make it black when it's not in full screen mode. If they did that PLUS hid the notch on the login window, that might help with the aesthetic. Thoughts?

Did apple stated that in the event ?
Haven't read that anywhere and I didn't watch the event (Even if I watched it, I can't hear what are they saying, Because I have issue with my hearing)

Anyway thanks for explaining that for me.
I don't blame you for not knowing about all of that but I do blame you for creating an outrage thread even though 1. you don't seem to know a lot about how the notch and menu bar are going to work on the new Macs 2. the Macs haven't even arrived at customer's doors yet.

How many smartphones out there are as thin as a laptop lid?

Sure, yeah, good idea. They'll do one punch hole for the camera, one for the ambient light sensor, one for the True Tone sensor, and one for the camera indication LED. Four punch holes randomly scattered throughout the MBP's display - different pattern on each one. Now we're talking. A Banksy collaboration piece.

I think the outrage over the notch is more ridiculous than the notch itself. It's literally in the menu bar while retaining the full desktop space and aspect ratio.

I fully expected a notch to show up some day, especially since the thick and uneven bezels needed to be addressed. I am just bummed that the notch didn't bring FaceID to the MacBook. But, all that space Apple has reserved in the notch is probably a good indication that this feature will come in the next refresh/update.

No problem! I'm glad we finally get a Pro machine worthy of the 'Pro' name

I don’t get it. Yes, the notch is much bigger than I was expecting. An iPhone 12 size notch on a 14” or 16” screen would have been much less of an issue but seriously… I just don’t see why it’s such a big deal.

1. The notch only covers the task bar and 9 times out of 10 there’s nothing there anyway. When there is something there, Mac OS compensated by moving it out of the way.

2. Apple pushed the task bar up to be flush with the notch so in all actuality we are getting the same 16:10 display under the notch and will actually have more issuable space now that the task bar has been push up. In other words, they have actually given us more usuable screen real estate… not less.

3. Apple literally just gave us a laptop that can outrun most high end desktops (including most configurations of the Mac Pro) CPU wise and can keep up with most gaming laptops GPU wise… all while using less power and producing less heat… and all on the same chip. This laptop is a game changer and people are worried about a notch???

Well there is something else it does.
Almost all the pictures shows the new MBP the notch looks ugly.

It's not just like why they add it, It's look ugly same as the iPhone.

And yes I did skip all the iPhones since they made the notch in 2016.

That's my main reason for this thread now, Putting aside how it effect user experience when using the MBP.
