The notch is brand recognition. Just like the phone, you instantly know its an Apple product. Why didn't apple make a punch hole instead ?
Does apple know that there is phones that have punch hole camera which has performance 10x better then in MBP.

You still do not understand how the notch will be displayed. It's WITHIN THE TOOLBAR of any software or app!!! It's not within the screen you're using. It's amazing how you and all the 1% of people complaining do not understand this. At full screen the screen is BELOW the notch. What lives in the area of the notch is the toolbar and operating system icons to the right. There is for people who often use full screen zoom.

People just don't want to learn.
They issued an update to support the notch and explained the behavior. Can't remember if it was also mentioned during the event, however:Did you read the later posts ? See post 11
I mentioned it in another thread but wondered whether it would have been less jarring to make the menu bar black. I don't know if that would look too dank or odd but since Apple will offer a menu bar in full screen option with the forthcoming Monterey, the menu bar will be black there. So in that case, why not make it black when it's not in full screen mode. If they did that PLUS hid the notch on the login window, that might help with the aesthetic. Thoughts? They issued an update to support the notch and explained the behavior. Can't remember if it was also mentioned during the event, however:
The screen bellow the toolbar is the usual screen size. The toolbar is moved up. You actually get MORE screenspace than before this way.
I don't blame you for not knowing about all of that but I do blame you for creating an outrage thread even though 1. you don't seem to know a lot about how the notch and menu bar are going to work on the new Macs 2. the Macs haven't even arrived at customer's doors yet.Did apple stated that in the event ?
Haven't read that anywhere and I didn't watch the event (Even if I watched it, I can't hear what are they saying, Because I have issue with my hearing)
Anyway thanks for explaining that for me.
How many smartphones out there are as thin as a laptop lid?Why didn't apple make a punch hole instead ?

This is the only logical position on the matter.Really? There is no issue with the notch.
I would rather a notch and the additional screen space.
Sure, yeah, good idea. They'll do one punch hole for the camera, one for the ambient light sensor, one for the True Tone sensor, and one for the camera indication LED. Four punch holes randomly scattered throughout the MBP's display - different pattern on each one. Now we're talking. A Banksy collaboration piece. Why didn't apple make a punch hole instead ?

Well there is something else it does.I don't blame you for not knowing about all of that but I do blame you for creating an outrage thread even though 1. you don't seem to know a lot about how the notch and menu bar are going to work on the new Macs 2. the Macs haven't even arrived at customer's doors yet.
