you people are nuts. i've bought one: a 3G.

and fwiw, in the past 10 years, i've bought only two mobile phones.

1G Silver mini
512MB shuffle
4GB Red nano

Got mini as part of a trade in with PowerMax, sold right before 2G came out because after my trip, I never used it anymore. Shuffle with 10% discount, bought at Tiger release, given to a friend's kid after buying the Red nano. I like the small ones.

I also have the ROKR, but I bought it because it has long battery life and was cheap, not because it plays music.

me:

Gen1 4gig iPod mini silver, (wife)
Gen1 4gig iPod mini blue, (me)
Gen1 4gig iPod nano black, (me)
Gen2 4gig iPod nano pink, (wife)

holding out for this so called iPhone *sigh*

We only have one in the house.

I just bought the 30 gig video (black) for my husband for Christmas.

He was saving up money to buy me the exact same one.

I told him not to worry about.

well, i even wrote a full essay for school on my ipod experiences titled "iPod Karma".

1. 3G 20GB for christmas of 2003
This iPod was later stolen in a hotel room in Mexico while i was out at the beach. So i learned my lesson, ALWAYS lock up any valuables!

2. 1G blue iPod mini of April 2004
so turns out i got a BRAND NEW ipod from the insurance claim. it was almost perfect timing since the new iPod minis had come out. I still have this one today.

3. iPod shuffle 512 MB of March 2005
Just for the fun of it, which was later lost in 2005/06. not too sure the exact date.

4. iPod shuffle of March 2005
For mom, which was later taken back.

5. 4G iPod 20GB of...cant remember
For mom again, which was later taken back due to the fact that she had purchased one the day my sister and I got her this for mothers day.

6. 1G iPod nano 4GB white of September 2005
the screen broke on this one, so i took it back and got...

7. 1G iPod nano 4GB white of October 2005
this replacement lasted me about 8 weeks until i lost it in the local Sobeys grocery store.

8. 1G iPod video 30GB white of April 2006
For my birthday, which was later stolen.

So right about now im back to my second-from-original iPod mini.

9. 2G iPod shuffle of November 2006
my iPod minis battery life started to slowly dwindle, hence me getting this new ipod.

so yeah, to date, i only have the blue iPod mini and the 2G iPod shuffle. so now im just waiting for a brand spanking new ipod so that i get it first before any of my other friends get it :D

Let's see...

January 2004 - 20GB 3G iPod - Used it until January 2004 when it broke, and was a day out of warranty and Apple wouldn't fix it.

January 2005 - 512MB 1G Shuffle - Compensated for my broken iPod until I realized it wasn't enough room.

September 2005 - 20GB 4G iPod Photo - Got it with my iBook so it was only $100...

May 2006 - 60GB 5G iPod - The one I use currently, holds all my music. Can't ask for more.

I'm considering getting the new shuffle, but other than that, I feel my purchases have been justified.

Oh yeah and if I got the generations wrong, my apologies.

30GB iPod Photo, and a 1GB iPod Shuffle (2nd Generation)

Wow man, you got a hefty collection there!

Bought a 30GB 5G as a present for a friend.
Thought I might like the same. That is almost full and so will probably get my second soon. :D

My first was a 10Gb 1G in the summer of 2002 at the cambirge apple store.

Second, a 20GB 4G I bought at the begining of 2005 with christmas money, it was replaced by apple care once so i could count that as another ipod ive had.

Third was my brothers 15 GB 3G he gave to me cause he didnt use it and the battery life was almost none.

Fourth, A 4GB mini which i got with my iMac in august of 2005 which i quickly sold.

Fifth is a 30GB white 5G orderd on the day of the release. And I sold my 4G iPod that day at lunch at school after reading the live macrumors update.

I plan on buying the next revision if i can get more than 30GB in the same size.

I bought the original 5GB one on the day it was released.

It now looks like a house brick and weighs as much as a baby Elephant - not unlike the Zune.

I also have a 1G Nano.

I have Two 5gb First generations. One in mint condition and the other is still BRAND NEW AND SEALED IN THE BOX!!

Wow - that is very cool. I scan E-Bay every 2-3 weeks looking for one still sealed in the box. Not sure how much it would go for but I agree with you that it would be a cool thing to hold onto.

-1 white 5gb given to me by a friend
-upgraded to a 15gb 3rd gen
-upgraded to a 40gb 4th gen
-upgraded/ downgraded to a 30gb 5th gen
brought a 4gb green ipod mini
-upgraded to 4gb green nano
and I got given a 512mb shuffle as a gift but dont really use it that much.
and I brought new 1gb shuffle as a gift for my sister.

so in all I have had 8 iPods.

I've owned 6...
1. 5 GB 1st gen (now owned by my gf who never uses it and refuses to upgrade... probably because she never uses it)
2. 4 GB 1G mini (silver)
3. 1 GB 1G shuffle
4. 4 GB 2G mini (silver)
5. 4 GB 1G nano (white)
6. 1 GB 2G shuffle

I currently still have the last two.

I have 2 ipods
30Gb 1gen black (gift-christmas)
512Mb 1gen shuffle (bought myself)

and I thinking about saving up for a nano but I'm going to wait for macworld
