Normally I would say keep it. It will be no less of a machine the day the new models are released.

However because you did buy a high-end supped up version, I would return it. Personally I have a 2011 iMac, but I don't game on the thing, just programming for work. One should only buy the high-end of they need every ounce of power they can get, that being the case the new iMac will most certainly be more capable for high end tasks by some measurable amount.

As a photographer 100% return it. You will be kicking yourself when they release an updated iMac with a 5k screen for ~$500 more than the non-retina version. For the iMac spec you mentioned I'm guessing a price point of $3,400-3,600 with the better display.

Jon.

Ain't no way a 5K 27" iMac is going to be just $500 more. Maybe a 4K could come in at that price point, but not 5K. Not now anyway.

To the OP, if it were me I'd keep it. I just got a 27" 2013 (refurb) with 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. The thing flies and the screen is decent enough. I also have a rMBP and the screen is nicer on it, but I have no major complaints about the current 27" screen. Since I paid under two grand for it, I am more than satisfied with it.

I am coming from a pc bg. Where u buy a computer when u need one at any time of the year. No such a thing like a (year model) or a (design) . Only u pay for the suitable hardware available in the market no matter when was it released. So what do u suggest? No body can confirm when is the next imac coming. It's uncommon for me to wait month(s) to buy a computer when i need one. As i estated above. All what concerns me is the screen resolution. the only element that really matters to me since it's abuilt-in element. I Don't care much about design, as matter of fact. I liked the 2012 design more. And also i do not care about the extra 0.2 Ghz processor speed they might add. The huge regret will be the 5k screen (and only if came affordable) other than this. I am happy with what i got.
Thanks all for replies. They really helped me to take the proper decision.

when you buy pc parts at any time of years, they are usually cheaper than from their original release date. that's not the came with the macs.

p.s. according to several rumor sites, new imacs (with retina?) are coming out on the 16th.

Everyone thought the original iPad would start at $999.... maybe they'll surprise us!

But, probably not
