Damn sure i won't buy it if it's NOT retina display, but i will if it is... I still have my first gen ipad (only non retina devices that i have) and it sucks a** compare to all my other retina devices... I can't go back!!

I appreciate your enthusiasm. I have the rMBP and 4S, and their displays are amazing. Compared to my 2011 MBP, the rMBP does have that amazing detail. But I think it comes back to what will you use the device for. I plan on replacing my Fire with the mini so I'll be happy with whatever resolution the mini comes with. And, you know it's going to be good because it's from Apple.

BTW what do you think of the screen when you have to use your MBP?

Who said it's no going to be retina? iPad 2's resolution put in 7" screen will probably be semi-retina. Worse than iPad 3, but better than iPad 2. I think it'll be something like 280-300 ppi.

Eh? iPad 3 is 264, a 1024x768 7.85" mini would be 163, waaaaay below even a vague marketing term like retina, no matter how Apple spin it.

Honestly, I don't see much difference between Retina and Non-Retina. I think if you use it for surfing the web and reading ebooks it doesn't matter.

Surfing the web and reading ebooks is exactly where the retina screen makes the biggest difference for me -- the text is so much clearer, it cuts down considerably on eye fatigue.

going back

Itll be interesting though since using retina mbp and the iphone 4s and 5 along with the ipad 3, i would like to see how much of a difference it is day to day.

it appears you have a retina 32gig already- what's the point of this thread?
If you want a smaller e-reader get a kindle or nook HD.
they're cheaper than any non-retina iPad will be and you'll be able to spend the $$$ you save on content- which is the reason we want these things- right?

People here seem caught up with the device itself and what it could or should do vs actually using it.

The iPad mini would be for my GF not me, she thinks the iPad screen is too big but loves the retina screen

So true. IMO text is where retina shines the most. I never enjoyed reading ebooks with black on white text on the ipad 2. Reading on the ipad 3 is like night and day. The text is so much sharper and crisp and if it had a smaller/lighter footprint it would be my main ereader without a doubt.

Let's not forget the the rumored specs for the screen will be a sharper picture than than of the iPad 2. The iPad 2 has 132 PPI and supposedly, the iPad mini will have 163. Not the 264 of the retina iPad but about 25% increase over the iPad 2. If that does turn out to be the case, it won't be so bad. A couple years ago that was the best screen out there and now we're potentially talking about a 25% increase. I'd much rather have a 25% increase in battery life from product to product.

For me, the important thing will be the price. I can live with a non retina at the "rumored" specs if the price would be significantly less. Of course we'd never really know the price difference unless they offered both a retina and no retina at the same time.

Whilst I tend to agree that Apple shouldn't release new iOS products without Retina displays, it's not difficult to see why Apple may choose not to include a Retina display in the iPad Mini. Mostly for the sake of pricing.

I agree. I have an iPad 2 but I instantly notice the difference on my wife's retina iPad, and on my 4S - so crisp!

Yeah, it makes you realise just how spoilt we are with Retina displays. I actually find it difficult to look at the old displays - so pixelated!

I'm sure these things are going to sell like crazy but to have retina phone, tablet, laptop, then using the same old iPad 1/2 resolution isn't going to cut it

I agree 1000000000%! And to those who don't see a difference between retina vs non-retina, GET YOUR EYES CHECKED! The retina is so mind blowingly superior it has spoiled other displays for me. Lol, it even annoys me when I walk close to my 60" 1080p LCD and see pixelation...

I have an iphone 5 and i love the Retina display. My ipad 2 obviously doesn't have retina display but i'm fine with it. maybe my holding position is what makes the difference.

The iPad 2 is a fine display, it only becomes an issue when you're accustomed to better. At that point, the inadequacies of lower resolutions become apparent where previously you didn't notice.

What a childish response. Reasons given for not buying are just as valid as reasons given for buying.

Ok. But there's nothing to contribute to OPs post. He doesn't want a non retina display. Cool beans, bro. We should at least post for discussion. Not just stating facts about ourselves.
