Wow ... dude, that was a book.

Look, if you have an issue, take it to the Apple Store (don't deal with Rogers) and you'll get a new one on the spot. If they don't have any, they'll order you one and call you when it gets in. Easy.

And don't get all high and mighty on the people telling you to chill out. You're the one bitching on a forum - what do you want us to do about it? Fix the situation somehow?

I think no matter what happens with you and your "cell phone situation", you should probably follow your own advice and "move on with your life"; if only for your own blood pressure.

Yes, because I have unlimited time to drive 3 hours one way to the Apple store each week to get a new phone...ya...easy...any only about...oh...$100 in gas each time.

I'm not asking you to do anything about it...if you read my original post I asked the "National" to do some investigating because most of us don't have the resources to do so.

I would love to move on with my life...LOVE TO....the thing is, I paid for this thing and so I kinda need to have it working.

With that said...UPS just showed up, so I guess I have to open this, cross my fingers and hope it doesn't suck.

Dude...if you're so worried about wasting your valuable time, why did you start this thread and continue to monitor it? It had to take at least 30 minutes just to write your second post.

I'm glad to hear that, unfortunately I (and others) haven't been so lucky. It's just absurd to assume that two (or more) screwed up phones happening to one person is simply coincidence.

No, it isn't. Who takes a day off of work to wait around for UPS? What is wrong with you? it's just a phone.

Ya...crazy I know...why would anyone sit around waiting for UPS to deliver the phone they bought hoping it would help improve the productivity of his business.

hmmm...I wonder how else I am supposed to get the phone...maybe I could call UPS...oh wait...maybe I could e-mail UPS and ask them to meet me at a Starbucks somewhere and they could give me the phone while I'm working...yaaaa...that'll work.

Remember folks...some of us are trying to actually use this phone as more than just a toy to show off to our friends.

I think he means you could have just picked up the package after work. Like what most people do (myself included).

And dude ... just get a Blackberry. If you're "hoping it would help improve the productivity of his business", you'll just be back here bitching about that too.

Remember folks...some of us are trying to actually use this phone as more than just a toy to show off to our friends.

I do this on a daily basis with no problems. Not only do I make calls using my 2009 Chevrolets bluetooth handsfree, but I don't get dropped calls and my phone functions 100% as advertised. It's not a toy because 99% of the calls I make on it are while I am working in order to do my job.

Answers for everything! :D

UPS doesn't actually have an office here, they drive out from a nearby city so picking it up isn't an option because I would never make it out there in time.

I do this on a daily basis with no problems.

And I am sure I would too...IF the phone was actually working. If you read above a glitch in the Rogers system shuts my SIM card off for days (this time 3, last time 4) in 4 weeks I have had my phone working only about 2 weeks. I haven't even had time to actually use it.

It's no secret that this will be my last Apple product, but I decided to take it one step further.

This is type of comment is going to draw fire here, and is unnecessary imo.

I just sent an lengthy e-mail to "The National" which is Canada's leading national news program outlining my issues/thoughts and giving reference to all your posts/issues on this, and other forums.

I'll let you know if I hear a reply, but I encourage you all to consider doing the same in your home country. Write up a good letter with references to your own issues, and back it up with links to these and other forums.

That is your right if you want to do it.

It seems Apple doesn't feel like being open with what is going on, so perhaps pressure from the news will help loosen some lips.

Again unnecessary, Apple has been open about the software problems with the 2.0 release.

No problems here!

I bought my 3G black market in Bangkok, it was brought it from Hong Kong. I have issues with the lack of features, but hardware wise, no issues!

I believe you're wrong about that because my understanding is the push/fetch mail is broken as of 2.1 but Apple hasn't said anything about it...at least not publicly.

That's fine. I took a chance on Apple due to the pressure of my Apple loving friends despite my better judgment and I have to say I am pretty disappointed. Between the Rogers issues (completely different story) and the iPhone issues I simply don't have confidence in the company or it's products.

I know many of you will argue otherwise, but it has been my experience that whenever I am using an Apple product I'm simply not impressed and more times than not I find myself wasting more time trying to get things to function correctly than actually being productive.

That's not saying Apple is a horrible company, it's just not the company for me. I will get through my 3 years with this iPhone and then move on to something different. There is nothing wrong with that...I did my research, I took a chance, it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Too long, didn't read.

That's fine. Please don't waste everyone's time with your comments then. If you can't be bothered to read what I have written, then don't bother commenting. If you're happy with your product then awesome, but if you have nothing to add, please find another post.

Well?

How's the new phone?

To tell you the truth, so far it looks to be working.

No light leak, cracks, scratches, dust under the screen. The bezel seems to be installed correctly.

The speaker seems to work, the mic seems to work, the touch screen seems to work with no dead pixels.

The camera seems a bit laggy (like my first one) which made it almost impossible to take photos...(my second one wasn't), but I'll try it out more later.

It's definitely a refurbished phone due to the serial number.

What I still have to check before I throw up my hands and say, "FINALLY!" is I have to plug in the headphones to see if I cracks the plastic like it has on the last two phones.

As well, I need to test the battery life, GPS, ringer and such.

So far though everything looks to be in order. If those last things work out then I'll be content for now. And if no cracks or anything develop over the next few months, and the phone actually functions correctly, then I'll come back here and be sure to update my posts to reflect that.

(I'll test the rest later...I just put on the ZAGG and Bodyguardz so I have to wait till tomorrow to test the rest)

Yeah, the laggy camera thing is kinda annoying - my first phone had that, but not the one I have now.

Use it hardcore for the week, and see how you feel about 'er.

EDIT: What does the serial number tell you? My new phone seemed to have a higher number than my original phone. How do you know it's a refurb?

My understanding is that serials that start with a 5K are refurbs. Some say no, but the majority of people say this is the case.

The serial of the one I just sent back today was 888337XXXXXX

I am told that this represents the factory, the build week, and something else I can't remember at this moment.

EDIT: I wonder if the laggy camera is hardware or software related. The lense is a passive component so I can't see how it would lag there...the only thing I can think of is either a chip controlling the camera has a slight malfuntion, or the software is whack.

Hmm ... the phone I have now's serial # starts with 5K834.

Honestly though, I quite like it and it works well. It's nigh perfect. But 'nigh' nonetheless.

Your understanding is incorrect. Push email is working fine for me with Exchange (as it is for several of my colleagues): fetch email works for me with IMAP as well. Push also works with MobileMe, although I don't use that very much for mail: I routinely use it for push email and contacts though, both of which work.

If you're happy with your product then awesome, but if you have nothing to add, please find another post.

That's a bit pot calling the kettle black, isn't it? Your posts in this thread have basically just complained about your product without asking for or offering any advice/help to anyone, which is just as bad IMHO.

I thought the whole point of this thread was that the OP was advising users who were suffering problems with their phones to contact the media as he has done? Perhaps the original point of this thread has become lost somewhere between all the attacks on him.

I'd like to re-itterate my support and see nothing wrong at all in going to the press if he's had the problems he's outlined here. I think that if it was any other product than one made by Apple then many of you would probably feel the same way.

Advising him to lower his 'high standards' just beggars belief to be honest and seems typical of the attitude of 'defend Apple at all costs'. Spending several hundred dollars on a phone which he then has to replace three times due to faulty components/shoddy workmanship is a disgrace, especially for a phone which costs so much more than others.

Thank you sir, I appreciate that.

You are indeed correct. The whole point was to encourage others to speak out if they feel the products (any product whether Apple, MS, Ford, etc.) they're spending their hard earned money on are not performing as intended beyond a reasonable point.

The reason I don't want to "lower my standards" is because as a consumer is because I don't think that is a good way to make sure companies are accountable for the products they put out.

As a consumer I feel that I have a responsibility to protect myself (and others) from companies and products that don't meet reasonable expectation.

I know that for many Apple has worked for them, but in my case (and others it seems) I felt that I was continuously being given a junk product for the money I paid. I felt that my time was worth something and when I feel a company is wasting that time, it makes me cranky.

Not only that, but this is a special case in that in order to own an iPhone you have to be bound to a 3 year contract. This makes me especially nervous because if the product that I am intending to use for 3 years is crap, then I have no option but to pay more and more money to get out of it.

If you think it's a matter of how I treat my electronic devices let me remind you that I have only had an iPhone since September 15th, 1008.
:p

I am now getting my 3rd iPhone because when I open the package they are flawed from the start.
Well....I've been happy with mine since July. It has one stuck pixel. I couldn't care less. I've been to several Apple stores since and the display models (which get battered to death by Joe Public wiping his greasy fingers all over them) never show any of the "flaws" you mention...

If you think that my situation is an isolated incident, then my friends you need to take a few moments and read a few forums before you go posting about how I must have, "the worst luck ever!"
Your situation is an isolated incident.

I should be able to plug in the headphones that came with the phone and not have the plastic break between the jack and the bezel. I should be able to plug in the USB charger without hairline cracks forming. I should be able to hold the phone in my hand without a sharp corner of a misaligned bezel threatening to cut me. I should be able to put the phone in my pocket without fear that the gap on the side letting light out is going to gather dust over time and kill the electronics inside.
I can do all the above - why can't you? Threatening to cut you? :D:D:D
Bottom line, this thread is hilarious. I'm no Apple fanboy, but as has been pointed out here, the Apple store will replace phones with "flaws". As I said before, go to a random Apple store, pick up all the display iPhones (there were 16 of each colour in the last store I visited). I did this, and none of them "cut me". Or even threatened to.

I have only read about two of the op posts, that's real commitment to write do much stumn to hammer your point home. But I'm sure very fee people care. I know I don't, so don't bother replying to this post because I'm not coming back to this thread

I bet a lot of people have the problems you've had, but just don't actually care that much about it. My phone cracked when I plugged in headphones. It's not that big of a deal to me though. I would agree that there are a lot of issues with poor workmanship, but that's the problem with sending everything off to China. It's not really Apple's fault so much as western consumerism, which always tries to spend the least amount of money on something. I guess I've just grown to expect that technology is garbage, and always will be garbage. I suppose it all boils down to the standards you're willing to sink to - I guess I was willing to sink to standards lower than yours, but all the same I give you credit for doing something about it.
