I know. It's creeping me out. It always happens when I yawn and neglect to cover my mouth. I'm sitting here in the library studying for my midterm and as I'm leaning over my binder I suddenly yawn. I don't react fast enough AND I'm far too lazy to cover my mouth, as my hands are underneath the table, so I yawn open-mouthed. As hard as I try to keep my mouth relatively closed during the whole yawning process, I can't manage to do it, and I think the clenching of my facial muscles actually exacerbated the gleeking effect... then...

BOOM! Pssshhhht! Dammit! What the ****?! I inconspicuously wipe the page of my binder free of the hundreds of tiny saliva droplets coating the text. I glance to the left and right of me, relieved that no one noticed my brief moment of serpentine behaviour. Then I decide, to hell with this, I'm writing on MR about it.

So who else manages to do this from time to time? It's completely natural but I haven't caught anyone else doing it ever since I noticed myself doing it (when I entered school and began yawning far more often). Can anyone here do it voluntarily?

For those who have no clue what I'm talking about:

Squirting saliva out of your mouth. It isn't spitting, it's coming directly from your salivary glands underneath your tongue.

I wanted to be able to do it intentionally, but couldn't figure out how. Some of my classmates could, though.

I used to know a chap who could do it on command. Freaky. If you ticked him off, he'd look at you and open his mouth like a snake to warn you not to do/say/act that way again...

I don't do it while yawning. I only do it while I'm talking.

Since we're all built the same I'd hazard a guess that everyone does it. I'm just surprised there's a name for it.

Is this like when you open up your mouth and then like 3-5 drops of "spit"? I guess comes out, like sorta like it got range... if I explained that correctly..that happens to me plenty of times in school...its just mine is small/clear so nobody really notices it.

I had never heard of "gleeking" until this thread, nor did I know it was popular in high school.

To be honest, I thought this thread was going to be about something entirely completely different.

If you can't cover your mouth you should automatically without thinking point your mouth at your shoulder, I very very rarely don't cover my mouth when sneezing and I have no problem forcing my mouth closed when I yawn.

That happens to me like once every couple of months...I never knew it had a name and I'd always thought it was just spit trapped in my cheek or something.
