...and you CAN do any of those things that they show, you'll just have to pay for the data it uses.

At least it's not like the automotive industry- where they show cars driving at excessive speeds, on nearly impossible terrain, or drifting/ joyriding on the salt flats or freshly rained asphalt... things you legally can NOT use said car for.

So your saying everyone should be on a tiered package from our cable internet providers too?

Phone carriers should have speed packages like cable providers, instead of usage packages. Makes more sense IMO.

99.9% of us already do and just don't realize it.... use over 250-300GB/ month and you'll likely get a letter from your cable company.

But then, it's not as though comparing cellular data usage to cable dsl, fiber, or even satellite makes any sense. They're completely different.

Simply put, the cell phone companies sell what can make them the most money. Right now, that's tiered plans. If you have an issue with that, simply move to one of the few companies who still offer unlimited. Otherwise, the time to complain was over a year ago when they first announced that they were doing away with such plans.

Hey I'm grandfathered on unlimited so I'm good right now. Just voicing my opinion here.

And I do use over 300GB a month with my cable internet. That's actually nothing.

I'm actually totally fine with having pay per use plans.

If it were up to me, I'd have everyone on a $15/1GB plan as mandatory, then overages are $10/GB.

It says continuing to do so in future cycles blah blah ill get throttled. My question is: can i continue to use it as much as i need in "this" cycle and be ok?

I got one a day ago and was throttled immediately. I was at 5gb ( android LTE) and forgot that my wifi was shut off. Throttling doesn't matter too much to me, and it is only until the end of the current billing cycle anyway.

To be fair they do say it's a closed course. If you got the cash to get yourself onto a closed course I am pretty sure it would all be perfectly legal.

Tiered data packages would likely reduce the costs for those who just "buy internet to have internet" and don't download large files and such. As it stands now the guy who downloads hundreds of megs a month is subsidizing the cost of the guy who downloads hundreds of gigs per month.

And this is coming from a guy who DOES download hundreds of gigs per month, so it would directly effect me in a negative way (I would have to pay more).

While we are at it, same should go for cable packages. I have over 100 channels in the first tier package and probably care about 15-20 of them. I view that as one in the same. The guy that watches shows on dozens of channels shouldn't have to pay the same amount as the guy that can count the channels he watches on one hand.

This is all just my opinion, of course.

Maybe he should try working?

Eh, that's tough to say. 99% of what I post, I do at work. It all depends on how busy you get and what your job actually is. I'd probably stream netlix and Hulu as well except they don't allow that. IMO it's tough to imply that a person isn't working when we have no idea what he does.

Comcast just went to a tiered data usage plan.

Well from reading this, it's more like just a tiered package for those that are beyond average use. Doesn't seem like they are closing the walls on the average user. Nobody is going to be checking their data usage.

Now phone carriers are giving a good percentage of users very little wiggly room.

lol I think my boss picked the only spot in the whole of my town where there is no 3G coverage on 3UK, T-Mobile UK, Orange UK or Vodafone UK (1 bar of 3G on O2). None of us can get distracted :p
