..only another 5 treatments until I get the 'fake filmstar' look! :D

B.T.W: the red gums, and slight inflamation is from the bleaching agent. Its not that bad now, its back to normal.

A before shot probably would have been a good idea. ;)
Excitement. Forgot.

They weren't bad just not 'gleaming' white - as I didn't clean them very often when I was younger, but now I do, 2 or 3 times a day.

Just wanted them looking more bright, think I achieved that. :)

You're getting bleached at 17? Teeth should be that colour anyway at that age. What have you been eating?

The colour on everyones teeth is different. You can't say they 'should be' that colour at 'that age'.

They are in perfect condition, just not as bright as I wanted them. I don't smoke, or drink coffee - they could just be brighter. Which they now are.

What method did you go for? Professionally bleached, or a home kit? What did they look like before?

I want to get mine done and thinking of going for Brite Smile

I was going to get them professionally, then the Dentist said to check out home kits, and gave me a couple of names to search for.

I bought the home kit, went to the Dentist to make sure it was all good, and did it at home.

Its the same product as used on Extreme Makeover. A really nice finish, takes a few sessions, and I've only had 1 so far - and thats the result.

Before, my teeth were as they are now, with slight colourisation around the gums. As it is now, you can see its a clear bright smile - although it will get brighter. Notice the yellow on one of my teeth on the left? That will be gone.

This is exactly the same as

This. Which is £75+ from Dentists (Just using this link as its not avail. in the UK, other than from here)

I'm getting this if I feel they aren't white enough.

I'm using the 35% Carbamide now, but I might move onto the 6% hydrogen peroxide one - as its a lot stronger and faster. I think this is working fine, though.

The 35% Carbamide Perox. I have, and the 6% Hydrogen Perox. I'm considering, is whats used in the US.

Here in the UK, a licensed dentist will only use up to 22% Carbamide Perox.

PS: On Extreme Makeover, its the Carbamide thats mostly used. The 'Zoom' whitening is for quite badly damaged teeth, hence is using the Hydrogen Peroxide, instead. Your best to start off with a 22/35% Carbamide.

Just be cautious and don't overdo it. As far as I know, there are no long term studies as to whether these treatments will damage your teeth in the future. My uncle is in the implant business and he is concerned about whether it damages the dentin....

Thanks for the advise, buddy.

As with anything cosmetic or any sort of treatment, I did read into it for a good 3-4 months on and off. Like you, I couldn't find any side effects, or down side, and it seems its becoming quite common.

I can't really 'over do it' as once they're white, I can't get them any whiter ;)

But I understand what your saying, thanks for your concern.

From a site:

Remember the television episode of "Friends" when Ross bleached his teeth to the point they glowed in the dark? Theorizing that what's worth doing is worth doing to excess, some consumers think there is no limit to how white they can make their teeth.
:p

Funny, FUNNY episode. One of my favourites.

Teeth whitening at your age is pretty silly IMHO. At my age and having quit smoking I'm going for it. My dentist set me up with prescription-grade Creat whitestrips. Apparently it's the exact same chemicals and procedure as "Brite Smile," at a fraction of the price. Brite Smile (light activated whitening is around $700 USD and only takes an hour or so. The Whitestrips take 3 weeks (1 hour/day) and have the exact same results but only cost $75. My dentist said that the strips they sell in the store would work but not as well or fast and are also more expensive.

Be sure you don't drink dark liquids, eat anything staining or smoke while you are going through the whitening process. Your teeth are temporarily more porous while whitening and can stain very easily.

Thanks for the advise. I don't smoke so thats something, and don't eat anything particularly 'yucky' since I'm dieting too. :)

Good luck with yours, hope all is well and keep me updated on your progress.

I just googled "Richard Hammond" and came up with his wikipedia page, and one of the quotes is "I did not have my teeth whitened" so i assume it's a reference to that.

Well if he did, good for him, I love white teeth!

Thanks, Lau! Helpful as usual :)
