Hahahah yes. :D

Richard Hammond: (After being criticized for using teeth whitener, to Jeremy Clarkson) Mine have gone whiter, naturally, in the same way that yours have gone green.

Josh, since you've looked into this lots, what product would you recomend? I bought a kit from Boots a couple of years back that seemed to make a bit of a difference but not enough. I want something quick acting and *really* whitening. The stuff I had before involved moulding a gum gard to your teeth, fill it with a gooey stuff and wear it for 20 minutes once a day for something like 15 days I think. It didn't really do very much so I just thought I'd leave it until I could afford the professional treatment one day. Basically I'd want powerful, quick working, affordable (i.e. not £££s) stuff and I don't mind ordering from the states.

Teeth whitening at your age is pretty silly IMHO. At my age and having quit smoking I'm going for it. My dentist set me up with prescription-grade Creat whitestrips. Apparently it's the exact same chemicals and procedure as "Brite Smile," at a fraction of the price. Brite Smile (light activated whitening is around $700 USD and only takes an hour or so. The Whitestrips take 3 weeks (1 hour/day) and have the exact same results but only cost $75. My dentist said that the strips they sell in the store would work but not as well or fast and are also more expensive.

Funny, I am using those exact Crest whitestrips at this moment! I have used them before, and they work well. I have received many compliments.

Can I get them in the UK?

Personally, I would recommend the links I posted before.

White Nite is good, but make sure you get at least 32% strength. It doesn't fee any different, its just harder working, and gives that proper 'bang' of whiteness. Any of those 3 links on the opposite page will give you what you want. (One of the links is a 6%, but go onto the other items for sale, and you should find a 35%)

Boots' was most likely a 6% strength, which isn't really worth a w*nk.

I know you said you're going to have another 5 treatments, but I'd be wary of doing it too often (you're probably thinking I'm a right old codger for saying this sort of thing in all your threads) but ending up with weakened or really over sensitive teeth for life would really suck. And over-whitened teeth (like a lot of film stars have) look pretty unnatural, in my opinion. Especially in the UK when we've all got such yellow ones. :p They look really nice and white in the picture above, so I don't think you have to go too far.

I suspect that you and me have vastly different outlooks on this stuff though, josh, so I won't be offended if you ignore me. But it's one thing for me to take the piss out of your orangeness ;) , but I'd hate you to do something now that's more permanent, like damaging your teeth or cosmetic surgery. Always remember, the reason Michael Jackson's nose is the way it is is because he never thought it looked quite right. ;) People will always have quirky bits n pieces about them, and that's what makes people great. :)

Lau.. shuttup! :) Course I don't think your being an old codger.. a concerned codger, yes.. but old, heck no lady!

But seriously, I even thought about side effects and weakening the teeth etc. Its not something I'm doing regularily.

Its 5 x 15 minute treatments, and considering all the years my teeth have been 'tinted' - its not really that bad. However it is recommended you 'touch up' with one or two sessions every 6-9 months.

Thanks for the concern, and I promise, I won't over do it :)

I've just finished a course of Crest Whitestrips Premium Plus - a 10 day treatment.

It cost me £22 off eBay (it's very difficult to get hold of that brand any other way).

So - the results? Well, I can see a difference, though it's not as big as would have hoped. However, to be fair, my dentist said that my teeth were already quite white - so she said that whitening treatment wouldn't have a massive effect on me. And she was right.

I'm still glad I did it, and don't have any complaints with the Crest system. However, I would have liked a slightly whiter "Hollywood" smile!

Thats what I'd love!

If these don't work, I'll get the £300 professional one, for my 18th.

One last ditch attempt, although this treatment seems to be working brilliantly. :D

Yes you can over-whiten teeth with the home kits.

they actually go grey and become very brittle, the enamel gets cracks all through out, now normal usage wont cause this but I know heavy coffee drinkers or smokers who try to get a perfect white smile with these kits and it just can't do it and end up damaging their teeth and mouths even more.

A little change in shade of white is OK for home use, if you need/want a more extreme change go do the professional dentist route.

Dentists will give you hydrogen peroxide kits, exactly what Crest Whitestrips use. Hydrogen peroxide will not make your teeth grey, brittle or damage enamel.

I just recently starting wearing braces (for about a year and a half), but after that's all done with, I am definitely going to whiten my teeth, so this is a very interesting thread. I am curious to see if the home kits actually work well. Brushing your teeth with braces on is such a pain in the neck.

Just snag an H2O2 strip kit OTC or online (you can get the dentist-only grade ones online, like through the link I posted above). I can personally vouch they work very well at removing yellowing.

I'm a skeptic and I despise quackery, but the damn things work, so...

You're getting bleached at 17? Teeth should be that colour anyway at that age. What have you been eating?

mine are genetically not-quite-white. i'm 18.

Crest Whitestrips Supreme have 14% peroxide and will bleach the livin' Jesus out of your teeth for 21 days at $38.

Haha, you actually made me laugh out laugh with your ''bleach the livin' Jesus'' remark :)

Mine are going quite white now, I must admit.

Mine is 35%, however they are carbamide peroxide, and not hydrogen - and the hydrogen is meant to be a lot stronger.

Would that site ship to the UK? I might stop right now and purchase them instead.. get it done faster. On the other hand, I think another 5 sessions and mine will be gleaming.

Any chance of a tacky commerical-style smiley picture, pseudobrit?

But think of how lovely and perfect they're going to look after! I have one slightly wonky tooth (out of site, mind) at it drives me mad knowing its there!

It'd be a bit worthless without the before shot.

As for shipping to the UK, I suppose it'd be worth a shot. Customs won't give a crap, 'cause it's not enough $$ to worry about.

Hopefully you have had your teeth checked out before you started the whitening. Not all teeth can handle the whitening.
Here in Denmark the government advise against using a home whitening product. The products on the market can damage your teeth for life. They can corode the enamel making the teeth more vulnerable to wear and tear of chewing.

So you whitening freaks ;) stop what your doing and get it done at the dentist if you really find it necessary to get your teeth whitened at all.

Did a google, don't know if it's usefull. http://www.animated-teeth.com/teeth_whitening/t5_whitening_teeth.htm#side_effects Amongst other things it advices against using products containing over 10% carbamide peroxide.

Edit: I'm with Lau all the way
